Dear Showtime & Elite XC: Fire Bill Goldberg
As I've previously indicated, Bill Goldberg - while a fan of the sport and a decent guy - is an absolute disaster of a commentator.
To say his presence cheapened the product would be a charitable understatement. When he's not fumbling for words, he's incompetent. And when he's not incompetent, he's downright rude. For him to say on national television, to the crowd in attendance and Rafael Feijao's face that he should just watch the replay and not talk because his English wasn't good enough was painfully embarrassing notwithstanding the fact that Feijao's English was - GASP - perfectly understandable.
He's also less than artful in handling situations on the fly. His bullying of Yves Edwards after a tragic loss and awkward interview of Herman in the cage made we wonder how many times this man has to make obvious errors and mistakes before he's taken to task by producers. Clearly they know he has no business in the commentary business, yet here he is, show after show. Why on earth does this continue to happen?
And while his delivery in pre-fight commentary is considerably smoother, it's also infinitely more robotic. It is apparent to everyone he's reading his lines and doing so without a great deal of delicacy. He is neither capable of clean improvisation nor scripted erudition, which leaves him in a very strange middle space of banal and hackneyed mediocrity.
The bottom line is this: find someone who can talk on camera and actually knows something about MMA. Keep Goldberg for the "Toe to Toe" segments (he is quite excellent there) and either allow Mauro and Quadros to do the job themselves or find someone who can compliment their skill set. Bill Goldberg is clearly not that man.

You are 100% correct! I could live with the dancers, the rappers and all the other garbage of this production if they would just lose Goldberg. He is painfully embarassing to watch. It’s like watching ben stillers akward moments in Meet the Parents only its real!

Rafael Feijao’s english is better than Goldberg’s.
He has to know that he sucks, much less, XC.

One of the few times I agree with Luke. They should have fired Goldberg after last nite.

By the way...
while you’re picking on Goldberg, let’s point out how ridiculous Mauros faux enthusiasm and hyperbole is. If i had to count how many times the broadcast team referred to something as “101”. Ex: “You’re watchin Jiu Jitsu 101”. The same adjectives are used repeatedly throughout the show. The whole EXC broadcast team is God awful. Seriously, i know some folks have a soft spot for Mauro from the Pride days, but when he cheeses “ALL HAIL THE KING!!” after a KJ Noons victory, you can’t help but want to puke. Quadros blows equally. As bad as this sounds i would much prefer to hear Jim Lampley and crew, even with Larry Merchant about to die and everything…...OKAY JIM!!!!!

THE BLUEBERRY MUFFIN?????
Does Dave “Pee Wee” Herman look, act or fight like a blueberry muffin? Apparently, that’s what Bill “OVERKILL” Goldberg announced him as after his post-fight interview. Immediately after that I did see Dave Herman confront Bill Goldberg and deliver a few choice words to which DuckBILLPlatypus replied with an “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again, no problem” type withdrawal. This one is easy to resolve Bill Goldberg! Time and time again, I see you act extremely nonchalant around these professional fighters as if your WCW title reign was for real. You’re a fake and a phony, not to mention you suck at commentating and lack overall intelligence. Why not step into the ring Bill? Dave Herman’s opponent Waterman is the same age and about the same size as you, but you neglected to notice that by insulting the young promising fighter who would make you his bitch anyday of the week. I DARE YOU TO FIGHT PEE WEE!!! Stop talking shit!!!

Goldberg for EliteXC
While I understand your original statement and after reading everyone’s take in here, I realize that the show EliteXC just plains sucks anyway. It is great knowing that someone other than the main MMA programming is trying to get into the fight here with the ratings, that I’m happy about. I think that MMA is coming and getting larger than ever. Bill Goldberg is honestly, one of the only good things I feel with EliteXC. Trying to get the over glorified old guy out there from Miami that used to work in the porn industry, VIP, I can not understand why they have those raunchy dancers. Not one of these girls are attractive? It’s like they went to the local trailer park in the city and asked a few girls to come out. None of them can dance anyway. When they go to commercial, they shouldn’t show those girls, and why do they show them for like 15 seconds? Does the Producer of EliteXC actually think the guys at home want to watch this?
Bill Goldberg is a great guy. He wanted to play in the NFL, he did for a few years and an injury pulled him out. He went into the WCW for the money and fame, he was arguably the biggest wrestler on the planet in the late 90’s. He made more than $15M wrestling in a few short years and when they merged with the WWF to form the WWE, he got out at the peak of his career, the WWE is rediculous to say the least. Honestly, EliteXC is using him for his fame, he has roughly 40 Million fans in the USA and when he comes to an event, thousands flock to see the man. He is great with the fans, excellent role model for children, and when you ask him, he’ll tell you wrestling is fake, it is entertainment, pure and simple and everyone knows it. EliteXC needs a new Production team, they need to get rid of the girls, Goldberg should stay, he does add flavor, these fighters should learn to speak English if they want to fight in America, plain and simple, and when you can not, we at home watching television shouldn’t have to figure out what the fighter just said, Bill was right to tell him to be quiet, I would have done the same.
Enough said, just wanted to comment on the EliteXC and the poor show that it is. Their show with CBS was nothing but an a terrible embarassment to the Network, they did a terrible job. The media had a field day the next day, nothing good came of it. Kimbo Slice shoudl be fighting on the street, he doesn’t know how to get on the mat and fight it out, if he isnt’ standing, he is through.
