UFC 87: Heath Herring vs. Brock Lesnar

According to MMAWeekly.com:
Heath Herring has agreed to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 on Aug. 9 when the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its debut in Minneapolis, Minn.
Heath is a better opponent than Coleman, but Herring/Lesnar is going to look alot like Herring/O'Brien only with Herring being punched in the face more.

Ah, Silent updates...

I love feed aggregators: I get to see what people posted before they had second thoughts. In the age of “every update is recorded, it’s a good idea to just add in an “update” if you want to change what you said, because this:

Heath is a better opponent than Coleman… should be a great fight.

Is very different than this:

Heath is a better opponent than Coleman, but Herring/Lesnar is going to look alot like Herring/O’Brien only with Herring being punched in the face more.

I could respond to what’s up there now, but I like what you wrote the first time. So, yes it will be a great fight – if by great fight you mean Lesnar getting exposed as an HGH abuser with no technique relying on pharmaceuticals to get him through – again. :-)

Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.

He has plenty of technique, albeit one-dimensional.

Exactly...

his wrestling technique is more than a little good. I’d also like people to compare WWE Lesnar with MMA Lesnar if they still think he is “on the juice” he’s always been a huge man, in the WWE he was gigantic, now in the UFC he is noticeably differently built. He doesn’t exactly have a body that screams “on the juice” to me.

I am an admitted detractor of Lesnar’s (pre-Mir). I think Brock showed a lot of real potential in that fight. Frank looked like he was attacked by a grizzly bear afterward.

I still want to see Coleman in the cage at least one last time, but I think I prefer the new opponent in all honesty. I don’t there Herring will will follow the same lousy gameplan he did against Jake O’Brien. And if he does, Lesnar (unlike Jake) will make him pay for it with a solid beating. Herring’s attitude and training regimen seem to both improved considerably since the Nogueira loss. Long story short—I like this match.

I just noticed how incoherently the second graph of my post reads.

*I don’t think Herring will follow the same lousy gameplan he did against O’Brien. And if he does, Lesnar will make him pay for it with a solid beating. Herring’s attitude and training regimen seem to have both improved considerably since the Nogueira loss.

OK, now that that’s fixed, I think this will be a tough fight for both Herring and Lesnar. I would not be surprised if either of them pulled off the win.

That’s more like it. No offense to Coleman, but having an ‘up and comer’ fight a retired hall of famer… well, it had no interest to me. Now at least I can hope for a decent fight (tho Herring has been less than stellar lately)

Cool. This is a way bretter match up. And now with GSP vs Fitch on the card, should be pretty fun.

Hmmm...

The O’brien comparison has me contemplating my knee-jerk reaction that Brock will soon be 0-2 in theUFC.

Unfortunately, Brock has only shown me the ability to take an opponent down. I have seen no sub attempts and no power punching. His short, uncontrolled strikes will not stop Double H (I’m making it stick!). Unless Brock has greatly expanded his arsenal, I don’t see this going his way.

I say either a LnP decision for Brock, or a 2nd rd sub for Double H.

Make mine the latter.

Guys….Kongo was able to take Herring down at will. Lesnar is roughly 10000000x the wrestler Kongo is and has a background that will allow for more control from the top than Cheick was ever able to muster. Always remember, Heath is Mr. Shitty Gameplan. I’m thinking this is actually a very good matchup for Brock.

Will look like O'Brien/Herring

Uhhh… Is that a problem? I find watching Herring getting his face beat in to be very entertaining most of the time.

Herring is still dangerous too, he hits really hard. So there is a solid possibility that he could KO Brock. However, there are a ton of guys like him in the UFC whom Brock would match up really well with.

I like the match up better! If Lesnar wins we all can’t say he’s been fighting cans like SLICE!! I look for Herring to be training a lot of wrestling for this fight, especially after he said he didn’t train like that for Kongo!

all you gotta do is...

PREDICTION: HEATH WINS 2nd ROUND

I find it funny that people thought Heath was the underdod against Kongo. Granted Kongo looks good while posing for the camera, but his skillset is not where it could be – even should be. I think Kongo needs another 10 real fights to become more well rounded as Heath is. Anybody can throw a punch now a days, but it takes experience to know how a beat a guy in MMA. Now this fight coming up with Lesnar.

If you just take into account the fight history both men have and compare their win lose records – well, come on now….
