Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
Roger talks about training with GSP, fighting Florian in August, and more. And for all you rumor fans out there he confirms that he is not dating Arianny.
UFC 87 will do some serious business on PPV if it features both Mark Coleman/Brock Lesnar and Kenny Florian/Roger Huerta.
I still think that Florian is a worst match-up for Huerta than pretty much anyone else in the UFC (possibly tied with Sherk) but I think Huerta is one of those guys that falls into the "never count him out" category. I think right now I'd take Huerta by razor thin decision.
Also in the interview Huerta sounds almost a little defeated by the fact that he hasn't been able to spend any time with his family and friends even while taking his current "break." His career has been fast tracked and you have to hope he doesn't hit that same type of "too much, too fast" burnout that we've seen from some other young guys like Paul Daley.

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
And on the feet, Kenny has more technical kicks and elbows but his boxing is absolutely horrendous. No power in his hands what so ever. Kenny will be on his back eating GnP from Roger (Who has some of the best cardio at 155lbs)
I think you guys, and other, are still butt-hurt about Guida getting beaten by this guy. You were all completely sure that Huerta would die the second he was out-wrestled and didn't take into account his excellent ability to scramble and his underrated BJJ game.
This will be a much easier fight for him than Guida. It will be fun and back and forth--most likely 15 minutes. But Roger will be the clear winner.

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
Kenny's MT is so solid that I think he could neutralize Huerta there and also Florian's BJJ is better than Huerta's. As I said, right this second I'd take Huerta by very close decision.

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
Florian is better on the feet for sure. But do you really think Florian's submission skills and sweeps from the bottom will defeat out-point Huerta's crazy un-orthodox GnP and wrestling?
IMO, most of this fight will take place on the floor with similar results to what happened when Florian fought superior wrestlers with great cardio. IMO, guys like Joe, Edgar, Guida, Tyson Griffin, Sherk, and Huerta will always be Kenny's downfall.

...no. Which is why I said I'd take Roger by close decision.

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
For startes, he's only fought one decent opponent in the UFC and that was Clay Guida. Second, he was getting absolutely owned for 2+ rounds including being brought to a point where another ref could've stopped the fight. Huerta himself admits to going black for a moment. Admittedly, Huerta is tough as nails and managed to find a way to fight through it, so I'll give him that, but he is technically nothing special.
Which is why Florian is a bad match-up for him. Huerta gets the edge in athleticism, but that's it. Florian is super tough, has fought better opponents, and is technically much more sound. Yeah, his boxing is only ok, but his kick boxing is terribly underrated, his wrestling is significantly improved (particularly in the takedown department) and his BJJ is miles ahead of Huerta's...particularly his guard passing. I do not believe Huerta can stop Kenny from passing his guard and that could well be his undoing. Moreover, for a fighter reliant upon his wrestling, he could do almost nothing to stop Guida from taking him down at will.
People call Huerta "unorthodox", but there's nothing special about him. He initiates scrambles, which can be deadly against someone with great BJJ (Crane could've made an account for himself with better cardio and improved toughness). His hands are ok, but who has Huerta clapped with his punches? Huerta is scrappy and athletic with decent technical level, but that's it. He isn't terribly difficult to figure out as a fighter and doesn't train with a team known for their technical prowess.
And even if Florian isn't the man to beat him, please believe Sherk, Penn and Stevenson would have their way with him.

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
Stevenson - I don't know
Penn - He'd have to do it in round 1 or have better cardio than I think he has. Huerta giving up his back so often would come back to haunt him here. But if he can survive a round and keep pushing the pace he'd have more than a decent chance.

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
Greatt post, I have to agree with you. I give Kenny a solid chance in this fight because I believe that there is a solid chance that he could kick Huerta's legs off or cut him with an elbow. But this is Roger's fight to lose

Re: Arianny Interviews Roger Huerta
On paper it is to close to call and I would have to give the x-factor to Huerta. I still think about the determination in his eyes right before the 3rd round started. That dude can dig way deeper than kenny.
