Ken Shamrock's Opponent: "Buzz" Berry vs. Head Cold

I've personally never heard of anything like this, but as long as Ken Shamrock has more to offer than the common cold, his opponent at Cage Rage 25 this weekend doesn't stand a chance. To wit:

The British fighter represents a higher hurdle than most at such a late stage in Shamrock's career. Though on the losing end of things in his last outing, "Buzz" thoroughly dominated South African man-mountain Neil Grove in the opening round before being forced to withdraw from the fight in need of urgent medical treatment.

"Before the fight, I was starting to get a head cold," Berry explained. "Obviously, I still wanted to fight, but after the first round I couldn't fight on. I got took into the hospital, and they said the head cold had attacked my heart. What they said in the hospital was, if I had continued into the second round, it could have killed us."

Berry was released from the hospital the following day and has since been through rigorous medical tests to ensure that the effects of the illness were purely short term.

"I've got the all-clear from the cardiologist," Berry said. "I've been for some more tests on my heart, and they've put it down to the head cold, which did attack my heart."

I'm no doctor and I've heard of fluid filling in the lungs from improper rest during sickness, but is this even possible? Is he describing the "head cold" in British terms that Americans call the Flu? What gives?

Re: Ken Shamrock's Opponent:
If it was just a viral cold, then it's very improbable (though not impossible) for it to attack his organs.  If he has some kind of bacterial infection, like a sinus infection, it could easily have entered his blood stream and attacked his heart.  Sounds like he's not sure of the terminology.
