Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice

Dana might have to eat these words someday:

Internet sensation Kimbo Slice currently competes in rival organization EliteXC. Slice was made famous through street fights televised on Youtube.com.

White does not think that Slice is ready for the UFC.

"Sean Gannon beat him in a street fight. Everyone saw happened to Sean Gannon when he fought a guy that no one ever heard of (a decisive TKO loss to Branden Lee Hinkle in the UFC)," said White, "Gannon was in the hospital for three weeks."

"That's what would happen to Kimbo Slice if he fought in the UFC. He would get hurt bad - real bad," White said.

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
Maybe in 2 years Slice could be an undercard UFC fighter.  Maybe.

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
Can we really see Dana saying "Kimbo is the next big thing and I wish we had him but our competitor has him".
I have no doubt that if Kimbo continues to impress and takes on some serious competition and win the UFC will try and court him.
I just hope the next EliteXC is carried by the Fight network again.  I was impressed with Tank's comments on "Inside MMA" and I think the bout will be pretty decent.  Hopefully more competitive than Kimbo's last outing anyway.

Kimbo does have ALOT to prove in terms of MMA.

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
Tank is a good gatekeeper because if Kimbo doesnt fight smart he could get KO'd. Kimbo is 33 years old and his game has gotta be good now, not four years from now. I think he should be fighting more.

And Dana is so right.  Yeah, Luke, your boy is all that...  He's a joke.  Wait for real competition, he'll get the same Brock got and more.

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
I still don't think we've seen enough from Kimbo to know where he fits in the pecking order. i don't know that Tank is a good gatekeeper, but he'll certainly give Kimbo's chin a workout. Let's hope that Kimbo continues to develop and continues to face better competition. But MoreThanUFC gives me a great idea: I'd LOVE to see him in a fight against Lesnar.

That's the fight that would have the BE crew  slitting their wrists: "Which unproven fighter do we nut-hug? The bare-knuckle brawler who may have no ground game, or the wrestler who has no idea how to finish fights? It's too much!" (just kidding guys! I kid because I love! Keep up the good work!)

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
Lesnar would chew him up in a heartbeat.  Kimbo would have about 3 seconds to land a punch before Lesnar dumped him on the ground and pounded him out.

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
I guess he'd have to make that a pretty good punch, eh? :-)

Having rewatched the Lesnar/Mir fight about 30 times now (counting the blows to the back of the head - I see 5, the third one looks unintentional), I have to say that Lesnar's strikes on the ground didn't look that great. I'm sure that the whole Force = Mass x Acceleration means that his giant hands don't have to be moving very fast to smash somebody, but he really needs some help with his ground n pound as well. He's not getting his weight behind his strikes.

Re: Dana White Disses Kimbo Slice
For all the grief that Dana gives us net users...the smart ones know that MMAth doesn't work...just because X beats Y and Z beats X that Z would totally wreck Y.

I'm not saying Kimbo would or wouldn't get hurt...but c'mon Kimbo/Gannon is a different fight than Kimbo/Hinkle.

I think if Kimbo can get a few decent wins under his belt, Dana may sing a different tune...unless he's in such denial at that point that a street fighter could possibly choose to take the sport seriously...Brock did...

Just to be clear: Ferguson isn't anywhere near the athlete that Lesnar is.
