Fox News Fight Game Needs a New Panel
Maybe I'm salty today because I have a tax final tomorrow, but this segment on the Fox News Fight Game show made me want to bang my head against a wall.
It's kind of mind boggling to me considering all the great bits in the Lorenzo interview that they go on and on about calling out Rickson Gracie and how the UFC should respect the Gracies. Then you have the random guy demanding Renzo be brought in. This was like a star wars convention of MMA fans, I almost felt bad for Atencio.

Who
are these guys? Besides obviously lovers of the Gracie family. As ridiculous as the guy who demanded Renzo be brought in the UFC for a superfight sounded. The guy who said Rickson was the greatest jui-jitsu practitioner of all time was more over the top.I actually think Atencio fits in with these guys.To everyone who thinks Bonjasky was acting after Badr Hari hit him when he was down.Watch the Renzo/Frank Shamrock fight for some real theatrics.

Oh boy
Are you still talking about that fight? Listen, Renzo was winning that fight up until that point. If the man let Sakuraba break his arm before he tapped, no way would he quit a fight he was winning. It was pathetic of Frank to even say that shit and even more retarded that people believe him.
Unless you take Goldberg’s word that rabbit punches don’t cause any serious injuries.
Look it up, a strong strike to the back of the head can injure the occipital lobe and cause temporary blindness. Don’t be silly.

What's silly is
If you think those knee strikes Frank connected with while lying on his back with Renzo on top of him were decisive blows that could cause serious injury then I have nothing else to say because their would be no reasoning with you.

Why dont you let someone do that to you and tell us all what thats like.
He held his head in place and hit him several times. If they weren’t effective, it was a wast of energy to throw them. Your appraisal of damage from what you see on TV means nothing next to the medical confirmation that followed. Facts obviously have no meaning to you.
Remember, this is Frank Shamrock we are talking about. The guy who quit the IFL because his team of guys couldn’t fight, comes back to fight after a five years hiatus against an MMA nobody (Cesar on his debut and only fight thank god) calls Renzo a quitter for leaving due to injury and then two fight later he quits his fight against Cung Le for breaking his forearm.

From The Atlantic article with Lorenzo:
DS: When you hear Rickson Gracie talk about how, at the age of 47 or whatever he is now, that he could beat the crap out of these UFC fighters that he sees on TV now, is that an older man’s understandable vanity? Or is he telling the truth?
LF: Let’s do it! I mean, that’s the ultimate test, that’s what I said, right? Let’s find out! If that’s the truth, then let’s find out! I mean, don’t just say it. Let’s do it!
The last two lines of the entire article taken completely out of context.
And as for Atencio, when you justify an answer in regards to business practice with “I asked Tim Sylvia,” you need to pack it up.

My GOD
Where do they find these guys? FOX…CALL ME UP. Talking about Royce being a sacrificial lamb. WTF? Yo, didn’t Royce sign the contract to fight? What, was Hughes supposed to take it easy just because Royce’s last name is Gracie?

I’d rather the real world experience, but that degree is like a magical key into jobs. And I study philosophy, what does that have to do with the real world? :)

Random Thought.
Speaking of Rickson…it boggles my mind that seeing the state that Sakuraba is in these days that Rickson hasn’t conned someone into lining up a “Superfight” with Sakuraba where Rickson has the chance to avenge the losses of the Gracie clan and re-retire at “401-0”.
Regardless of the ridiculousness of this fight, I feel like this is INSTANT MONEY and a real golden goose for mma in Japan and it just might be more feasible today than it was in 2000.

Music to my ears
I gave up on that show after the first episode. It’s well intentioned, but intellectually disorganized and full of bad shtick. Come to think of it, most mainstream coverage is.

Its like a bunch of guys who just discovered the UFC and have gotten finished watching UFC 1 discussing modern MMa.

Oh man, that is EXACTLY what it is. I’ve read far better exchanges on the UG. Nice comparison.

Nailed it. Although the median age is probably double that of Sherdog.

Straka is good sometimes, but other times he is pretty hard-headed and biased.
On another episode I watched, they had everyone in a small room around a table with one guy sitting in a nook at the back of the room holding a mike because he wouldn’t fit at the table.
Too many people, not enough knowledge on the show. But at least they get to some issues I like to see addressed even if they can’t complete the picture.

I can’t remember what fighter he was talking about, but John Moody said something to the effect of “Fighter X is underrated” or “Fighter X would beat Fighter Y (big name)”. I felt it was a legitimate point but he pretty much just got laughed at by Straka who offered no counter-argument.

It looks like they filmed it crowded around a kindergarten table, seriously if you are going to have 6 guys doing commentary (which is silly to start with) then the least you can do is get a table with room for 6. As for quality of commentary it has the feel that they sent out a memo at the fox sports studio for anyone who wants to be on a MMA webshow to just show up and find a seat. Seriously who are these guys?

Those guys made Franklin McNeil look like Bas Rutten. That was absolutely horrible.

Crowded, Agree!
The thoughts behind that show’s production is so bad. Seriously, six people smashed around that little table and one on satellite for a 7 minute show? It’s hard to bash the panelist because how do expect anyone to sound intelligent fighting to get their 5 second sound bit.

I can’t believe you guys haven’t spotted this earlier. The show is an absolute joke, and it can be confirmed with the show that featured Eddie Alvarez.
There is basically ZERO fact checking from these morons. In the Eddie Alvarez show, Babalu was apparently “BANNED FOR LIFE” from the UFC according to Mike Straka, and not ONE of the FIVE panelists corrected him.
They discussed how Gina Carano must be in the WEC, which is fine, but they said she needs to fight Cyborg or La Rosa NOW. Yeah, blow your load on the first fight, GREAT PLAN!
Luke, I agree with your sentiments on mainstream media, but it’s almost always clueless and inaccurate, almost always when it comes to MMA. That’s my big problem. Having some morons talk about how Babalu is banned for life from the UFC for 10 minutes when he actually isn’t BANNED from the UFC is ridiculous. Having one guy ask Alvarez if he’s potentially fighting CroCop is absurd. Having another guy who is merely a physical fitness trainer blab about nonsensical MMA dream fights is stupid.
