Kimbo Slice to Make (Kickboxing) Commentating Debut
Get your TiVOs and DVRs ready because this is going to be rich. From a press release in my inbox:
The largest martial arts event in the world - FiELDS K-1 WGP 2008 Final taking place at the Yokohama Arena in Tokyo Japan - will be broadcast live on HDNet to MMA fans in North America.
Joining the broadcast team of Michael "The Voice" Schiavello, four time K-1 WGP Champion Ernesto Hoost and FEG USA's Mike Kogan will be none other than Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. Kimbo was invited by FEG and HDNet to be a guest commentator for K-1's US début.
FiELDS K-1 WGP 2008 Final, an 8-man knockout tournament for the coveted K-1 Grand Prix crown, features the world's best heavyweight strikers including Moroccan/Dutch Bad Boy Badr Hari; legendary triple K-1 World Champion Peter Aerts; French monster Jerome LeBanner; Russian wonder Ruslan Karaev; and two-time former champion Remy Bonjasky.
The broadcast also includes super fights featuring New Zealand's "Sugar" Ray Sefo vs. seven-foot-plus giant Hong Mann Choi; and Australia's Paul Slowinski vs. Dutch demon Melvin Maenhoff.
I certainly think Slice is more clairvoyant than he's often given credit, but this has a very "Phil Baroni: Yoon Dong Sik's name is Pork Fried Rice" feel to it.
Comments
Maybe he will just do some ‘around the ring’ commentating, with little air time.

Clairvoyant?
… maybe he’s just scouting Badr Hari — and maybe he’ll have serious second thoughts about stepping in there with that dude, lest he suffer a very serious injury.

Are you saying that his beard gives him a 6th…even 7th sense?

I’m guessing he must have meant “coherent” when he typed clairvoyant, but he’s posted since I made that remark, so maybe I’m way off base and he really did mean clairvoyant. Dunno. But whatever it is, it’s gotta be the beard.

I think it’s a good choice. The best heavyweight striker in mma should be well qualified to comment on kickboxing.

That’s a lot of pain in that tournament.
Also, I thought Melvin retired? Was that just from MMA?

I thought it was clear when you said it, but some people didn’t understand.

Hari’s spinning heel kick to the face may be the best kickboxing KO I’ve ever seen. And he broke one of HMC’s ribs, which Jerome Le Banner basically said was impossible (‘his bones are so hard, when i kicked his leg, my leg hurt! With proper training, in two years he will be unbeatable!’).
As far as Kimbo goes… I guess he’ll do your promotion less embarrassment with a headset than in the cage, going down faster than a prom date to a LHW.

I doubt
we will hear Kimbo say anything as stupid as Phil Baroni and also my darkhorse pick for the tournament is Errol Zimmerman.

Obviously he is there for a reason. I’m guessing he announces his fight for NYE, and that HDNet will air Dynamite

He Is Only There To Announce His Participation In K-1
He will not be doing commentating. More like, they will ask him a few questions and he will answer them. He is there to hype up either NYE event, which he may participate in, or the Badr fight in March.

Badr would send pieces of Kimbo home to Miami in a box. The sheer stupidity of that fight makes my brain hurt.

Well if HDNet is gonna be broadcasting it...
It would be likely that Bas will be there. With Bas will come Kimbo and this whole thing comes full circle. HDnet gives him a little airtime… Earns some street cred – gets some people that don’t know jack to tune in… And then with some dynamic performances by various folks gets repeat viewers

Kimbo on commentary? He Is Only There To Announce His Participation In K-1
Ok. that makes a sense.
What Kimbo is going to comment about? Street fight?
Does he know about any ground games?
don’t get me wrong I like the guy.
I really wish that Hollywood thing (simply you are doing it because you are a celebrity) doesn’t happen in MMA because it will kill the sportsmen-ship in MMA.
