by achengy on Dec 31, 2008 5:43 AM EST up reply actions

Yeap… it’s KUSAKABE RYUYA vs. URABE KOYA right now.

by Nick Thomas on Dec 31, 2008 5:44 AM EST up reply actions

Oh yea i saw boxing gloves instead of the mma gloves.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 5:44 AM EST reply actions

These K-1 kids know how to go at it…

And it feels weird calling them kids since they are probably 1-2 years younger than me.

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 5:53 AM EST reply actions

It’s a under-18 tournament supposedly.

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 6:02 AM EST up reply actions

yup

all U-18. I wish there was an amazing talent in these kids matches to get me interested. A Tyson sort just dropping bombs

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 6:09 AM EST reply actions

I mean

the fights are all action… But they all hit like Forrest Griffen

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 6:10 AM EST up reply actions

Haha I just had to laugh at that.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 6:13 AM EST up reply actions

Part of me still keeps checking the Sherdog play by play. Too addictive.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 6:14 AM EST reply actions

Oh by the way is Sakuraba the main event?

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 6:14 AM EST reply actions

Yeah me too, and idk why but i find the Cro Cop match to be real interesting. Too bad we have to wait a while before that comes out.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 6:19 AM EST up reply actions

Who’s fioghting now

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 6:21 AM EST reply actions

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 6:24 AM EST up reply actions

I heard there’s a stream of the Cro Cop Hong Choi Man fight in Croatia, anyone else know about that?

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 6:28 AM EST reply actions

I would avoid it. Looks like some people are ending up with viruses.

Knees on the ground = brutal but awesome.

by Nick Thomas on Dec 31, 2008 6:42 AM EST reply actions

Just wondering what you guys think

But who do you think kicks harder. Antoni Hardonk or Cro Cop?

I know kinda off topic but i just wanted to know. :D

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 6:47 AM EST reply actions

Cro Cop LHK = one of the most brutal weapons in existence…

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 6:48 AM EST up reply actions

Cro Cop. He’s knocked down some giants.

by achengy on Dec 31, 2008 6:48 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah i was thinking that

But damn both guys hit like bulls running into you. Thanks just wanted to know.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 6:55 AM EST up reply actions

Damnit I want Hunt vs Melvin.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:01 AM EST reply actions

what is that dark mark on badr hari’s back?

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:07 AM EST reply actions

are you serious?

woooow….

serious karma right there…

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:08 AM EST reply actions

That looks exactly like the knock out of wanderlei that Quinton did to him.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 7:09 AM EST reply actions

Overeems got power!

He needs to be in the UFC.

Eat that shirt Badr!

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:10 AM EST reply actions

Nice uppercuts from Kawajiri

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:15 AM EST reply actions

OMG!!!

What a knee!

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:17 AM EST reply actions

That was one sexy flying knee!

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:17 AM EST reply actions

Where is everyone here? lol

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:22 AM EST reply actions

Still in shock that we’re about to see Bob Sapp fight an anime character…

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:25 AM EST up reply actions

I’m just waiting for the results of Aoki/Alvarez on Sherdog then im off to bed lol. Yes i know i’m cheating lol.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 7:25 AM EST reply actions

Why is the other guy wearing a mask? And a costume looking thing?

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 7:27 AM EST reply actions

He is supposed to be an anime character…

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:27 AM EST up reply actions

Because it’s sexy.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:28 AM EST up reply actions

Oh

I’ve never seen a person do that before. Wear a mask while fighting.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 7:30 AM EST up reply actions

Well when you’re watching a fighter dressed as a character from a cartoon who is supposed to be a pro wrestler from another planet you kinda throw your normal sensibilities out the window.

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:33 AM EST up reply actions

Sakuraba did vs Cro Cop

And War Bob Sapps funky robot victory dance. Someone better Gif that,.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:33 AM EST up reply actions

Dos Caras I mean.

Who’s coming up next?

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:37 AM EST up reply actions

Who kicks Goliath in the balls?

Let alone a TECHNO goliath.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:47 AM EST reply actions

Ah man.

Well at least Cro Cop screwed his knee up. That’s gotta help his mental state.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:47 AM EST reply actions

Why was Cro Cop wearing shoes though?

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:48 AM EST reply actions

I was wondering the same thing.

by bigislandboi808 on Dec 31, 2008 7:49 AM EST up reply actions

Do you think if he hit Choi with the same shot barefoot it would have screwed his knee?

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:50 AM EST up reply actions

The shoes make kicks softer

the shoes provide grip on the mat. He didn’t wanna slip cause he didn’t wanna have Choi sitting over him throwing punches. Choi wanted to take him down the entire time

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 7:51 AM EST up reply actions

He should have wore Golf shoes and stomp kicked Choi’s knee.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:52 AM EST up reply actions

Did HMC’s corner tell him not to try any kicks?

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 7:49 AM EST reply actions

HMC was looking only for the TD

If he had mirko on his back he had a damn good chance to win. Standing up Mirko was gonna be too fast for him. Same as Sefo. Choi is DANGEROUS if he can get somebody onto their back though.

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 7:52 AM EST reply actions

Fedor disagrees though :)

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 7:53 AM EST up reply actions

that includes Mirko. And HMC still shook fedor off the first time. He picked him up with 1 fuckin arm and dropped him.

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 7:54 AM EST up reply actions

Houston Alexander would have ripped his arm off :)

wooowww…..

a clean sweep in the “MMA vs. K1” K-1 bouts…

by Tonley on Dec 31, 2008 8:23 AM EST reply actions

Surprised they’re ending so quick.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 8:27 AM EST up reply actions

Kawajiri winning was the only HUGE shocker

Overeem winning was definately a surprise too… But I believed all along that Mousasi had a good chance.

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 8:27 AM EST reply actions

do we have a japanese speaker that can tell me what is up with that? Is it an Evangelion movie by Fields or something?

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 8:29 AM EST up reply actions

Fields makes games.

They’re introducing a new pichinko machine based on Evangelion.

On another note, has he even heard of WAMMA?

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 9:11 AM EST reply actions

Also such a shame Hunt got over excited and went for the GnP against Overeem, he was doing well on the feet.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 9:18 AM EST reply actions

Or it could be the fact Melvin

Hits as hard as anybody in MMA and throws like that in combination. HE IS A FUCKING ANIMAL. There is a reason Mousasi took him down instead of standing with him. (Mousasi that beat the everloving crap out of Musashi)

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 9:21 AM EST up reply actions

No doubt he’s a beast on the feet, but to top it off with a KO of Hunt of all in people in under 20 seconds. Holy shirt man. Hopefully his ground game and defensive wrestling comes along.

by Pandanus on Dec 31, 2008 9:23 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed

Mini Tyson indeed. This is a performance that will certainly refocus him on MMA.

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 9:32 AM EST up reply actions

Why will it refocus him on MMA? The fact remains that he is a dog when it goes to the ground. How did this fight (Where he KO’d a K-1 guy) have anything to do with him getting back into MMA? if anything it allows him to continue getting K-1 fights because of his strong stand up.

by lbk on Dec 31, 2008 10:09 AM EST up reply actions

Um

Hunt is a Mixed Martial Artist too… And it would refocus him on MMA because now he KNOWS he can put down anybody in the world with 4 oz gloves on.

by skwirrl on Dec 31, 2008 10:27 AM EST up reply actions

Hunt is a Mixed Martial Artist the same way Manhoef is a Mixed Martial Artist, which is to say, a dreadfully one dimensional one.

I’m sure Zimmerman can take out just about anybody in the world with 4 oz gloves, but he lost to MINOWA in a MINUTE. KO power just doesn’t matter for shit when you get subbed within ten seconds on the ground. And Manhoef’s ground game just isn’t good.

by Michaelthebox on Dec 31, 2008 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Mousasi did stand with him. He just ended up getting his legs around Melvin from the feet and then when Melvin tried to shake him off they ended up on the ground where he triangled him. Mousasi would beat Melvin standing ro on ground. He’s 10 x more skilled.

by lbk on Dec 31, 2008 10:07 AM EST up reply actions

LMAO

Dude you need to rewatch that fight. He didn’t stand with him at all. He clinched and worked the takedown immediately. He wanted NO part of Melvin standing up. Melvin was pissed because he said he and Mousasi said they were gonna throw down on the feet then Mousasi immediately clinched and went for the TD. THE SMART THING TO DO

Overeem!!!

Damn, just when i thought my man-crush was under control, lol!

Seriously, AO vs Fedor in Affliction please! Not saying AO would win, but I think this is the best fight out there at HW. Unfortunately, not even a remotely big draw amongst the masses.

Eliot Marshall: Bader won. Like I said in the episode, I'm not going to make any excuses. It's my job to be able to deal with when somebody's doing that. It's not his job to change up his tactics.

Even back in his LHW days. He wasn’t always a good performer but I knew on the basis of his striking that he had the potential to be very good. I’m just a mark for Dutch-style strikers I guess…

Dave Meltzer posted up a pretty preposterous review of Dynamite

Titled “New Year’s Eye not MMA’s Shining Night” On Yahoo Sports, aka the online PPV provider of UFC events. He decided that the real focus of the event was Bob Sapp and his admittedly lame matchup, then takes a crack and K-1 for booking one-sided K-1 vs. MMA fights in one breath, while giving the MMA guys who pulled the upsets no credit in the next, dismissing the wins because Hari was “banged-up”, and Musashi is “long past his prime”.

I thought the event was totally awesome, and the real story of the night is the direction of K-1 and DREAM becoming even more intertwined than could have been expected. I can understand if some people were turned off by a couple inconsequential fights and the single true “freak show” fight in Sapp vs. Kid MUSCLE, but Meltzer’s review is simply brutal.
