Kurt Angle Is Still Lying About Competing in Mixed Martial Arts

Kurt_angle_mediumKurt Angle did an interview on the "Big O & Dukes" show on 106.7 WJFK this afternoon (entire interview here). Characteristically, he says he's working towards getting involved in MMA, but a) he's busy and needs to sort out some issues that conflict with his ability to fully commit to MMA and b) it depends on what sort of offer Affliction or the UFC make him.

Kurt, you're lying. You've been talking about entering MMA for over two years now without a shred of progress. You've constantly got an excuse for not yet signing on the dotted line, yet you're perfectly willing to suggest you're capable of beating the top-end fighters. You've got no kickboxing experience, you've got no submission wrestling experience and you've got no MMA experience. You are 38 and your career has been one filled with severe injuries. While your wrestling background is incredible and worthy of the highest regard, your professional wrestling antics of phony hype, bluster and unfulfilled future promises does not hold water in this sport.

Get in the cage and fight or stop talking. Until you committ to MMA, you are lying.

Good Lord this guy is an egomaniac,

after seeing Lesnar & Lashley entering MMA it seems he cannot take not being relevant in real sports.

Agreed. He is sucha joke.

I think it’s quite clear that he would never pass medical examinations and be licensed to fight in an sanctioned event regardless of his true intentions in the end.

Angle has submission wrestling experience… Lets not forget he was submitted by Daniel Puder. Remember him? Me neither.

by Discman2 on Dec 3, 2008 12:30 PM EST reply actions

I think it’s amazing that Puder put a real hold on a man in a fake wrestling match and made a (brief) MMA career out of it.

And people say pro wrestling isn’t relevant. I mean, I say that.

Pruder...

had some MMA training prior to that though. So it isn’t like he had no interest in it until then.

Technically, I’ve had MMA training as well. Amazingly, that training hasn’t led to a career in the sport.

Good for him that he had interest in MMA before he acted like a dick. And good for him that he worked Strikeforce into employing him for a while because he caught a guy in a pro wrestling match.

I think he means letting go of steroids and pain killers..

and after all that years of talk, you’d expect him to be having some kind of training under his belt by now..

It sounds like he’s trying to stir up an offer from a MMA organization. Didn’t he get divorced recently? Wonder if Kurt is just needing the money? At his age and physical conditition it would just be a gimmick fight anyway(if he could even get medical clearance).

More like

trying to pull some MMA fans over to Pro Wrassling…

The fact is MMA does not pay as much as pro wrestling sadly. And the punches are real. So I don’t why someone who is still active in pro wrestling would even consider it.

MMA makes more then Pro-wrestling. With less brusing.

by RoyalB on Dec 3, 2008 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

In 2006 Angle was making right at $1 million a year with the WWE, I doubt that TNA is paying him near that much. In 2008 Brock Lesnar has fought 3 times $250,000 for Mir fight, $450,000 for Herring fight and $450,000 for Couture fight; in athletic commission pay alone that is $1,150,000. Wonder how much Jack Links pays Lesnar?

by who me on Dec 3, 2008 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Panda Energy, owners of TNA, is paying 2 mill for Angle. Angle was getting 1 mill in the WWE because they were high on the guy.

Starter pay for someone in the ’E is around 50 to 100k.

by RoyalB on Dec 3, 2008 2:09 PM EST up reply actions

If Panda is shelling out 2 million for Angle then that is crazy. Guess that is why darn near everything TNA has going on revolves around him.

by who me on Dec 3, 2008 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

Panda and Spike are paying Steve Borden a total of 5 mill.

by RoyalB on Dec 3, 2008 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

The Stinger still pulls in 5 mill? Thats amazing.

This guy will be 50 years old and saying that he is “still” a little busy but plans on competing in mma in the near future.

What a jack ass. Isnt he already 40 or older?? I do not know for sure, but think he is over 40?

TNA wasn’t too bad when it first started on spike. It didn’t have any stupid story lines, well nothing like WWE. Then, all of a sudden Kurt Angle comes over as well as most of the rest of WWE. The speed of the matches slowed down and now it is all idiots screaming at each other. They took a good product, fast and fun matches and turned it into a WWE clone with a different ring. Color me disappointed.

Apparently he thinks the MMA game is made up of marks as dumb as WWE marks?
