Rob McCullough vs. Marcus Hicks at WEC 38

According to MMAWeekly:

Former WEC lightweight champion “Razor” Rob McCullough will face off with contender Marcus Hicks at WEC 38 on Jan. 25 in San Diego, Calif., MMAWeekly.com has learned.

Sources close to McCullough’s camp confirmed the bout on Tuesday.

McCullough is coming off a hard-fought decision loss to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at WEC 36 on Nov. 5, in a bout to determine the lightweight division’s next contender to champion Jamie Varner’s belt. Varner and Cerrone will square off on the San Diego card.

Hicks last fought in August at WEC 35, where he lost by devastating knockout to champ Varner. Hicks had won his previous three appearances in the WEC, beginning with WEC 27, without seeing a third round.

It's a nice fight for two guys who need to get a high profile win to get their careers back on track.  I'm a big fan of Hicks and legitimately thought that he would beat Varner in their bout...I was obviously wrong.  However, I think he has the ground game to beat McCullough in January but I'm not sure what there is left for Rob in the WEC were he to lose again.

Regardless, Varner/Cerrone, Pulver/Faber and Hicks/McCullough.  WEC is going to be delivering another show full of very solid fights again in January.

Its so typical that this post gets no love. People just don’t seem to care about the WEC no matter how good the fights are. Hicks and McCullough are both solid, entertaining fighters and should put on a hell of a fight.

You know...

I was thinking the same thing. For this fight to not at least get a little bit of “wow…should be a hot fight” comments is odd.

With all the talk about the WEC getting poor ratings I think things like this make it clear that it isn’t just that the casuals aren’t turning in. A lot of the “community” may not have a lot of interest in the product that the WEC is selling.

I’m not a fan of McCullough and I think I’ve seen Hicks fight maybe twice.

I care about this fight and I am happy to see it, but its nothing to get excited about or complain about. It is a logical step and good match making.
