Weird Revelation of the Day: Dave Chappelle Training in MMA?
This has 'WTF' written all over it. 'Half Baked' star Dave Chappelle was recently on ESPN radio. Among the topics discussed was, strangely, the UFC and it's rise in popularity. Chappelle was asked if he enjoyed or followed MMA:
Yeah I watch it sometimes, It’s always been something I wanted to do. I don’t mean I’m looking for a career in it , but you know I would probably do it just for maybe one or two fights.
Chappelle went on to explain his current training:
Like I said earlier man, its only a hobby, but I like training hard. Obviously with my career I’m always all over the place, but when I’m in Vegas, I try and stop in at Xtreme Couture, cause Randy is my boy. But yeah you know, if I’m in a place for more than a few days, I’ll go and train. I really like training down at ATT, they got some awesome guys there.
When asked who Chappelle would most like to fight if he ever were to compete:
It doesn’t really matter to me man, I mean if i train hard and correctly it shouldn’t matter. It would be pretty fun to fight Rogan though. I know he trains and is a badass he is pretty big, but it would still be fun . Id like to fight Kat Williams too, yeah I’d really like to fight him.
Though it is no surprise that there are celebrities out there who like MMA and there are those who even train in a martial art as a hobby it does sound sort of strange to hear. The most notable celebrities I can think of who love MMA or martial arts and even train for fun, besides Joe Rogan and Kevin James, is star of the great 1990s TV series 'Married With Children', Ed O'Neil (a black belt in BJJ under Rorion Gracie). The other celebrity that comes to mind is musician, Maynard James Keenan. The lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle has studied under Rickson Gracie and last I heard was a purple belt in BJJ.
This revelation from Chappelle just strikes me as kind of odd, but then again Dave Chappelle is an odd person. One day he's going on sabbatical to Africa, the next he's training at Xtreme Couture. Talk about odd.
Anyways, I'd imagine Chappelle has a mean uppercut.
**I haven't been able to find audio of the interview and I'll admit the story comes from a less than reliable source, I mean for christs sake the site reporting this also has a story up saying the old broad from Golden Girls is running Afflcition now. That doesn't really spell reliable, but if it were true it would be funny.

I love Dave Chappelle, I love MMA, I love this article. Though I’m damn jealous that he gets to train at Xtreme Couture and ATT.
It also begs the question: what other celebrities train MMA? Beyond those previously mentioned, I can think of:
-Jason Statham
-Michael Clark Duncan (apparently trains BJJ – scary)
-Nick Cage
-Maynard James Keenan
-David Mamet
-Guy Ritchie
-David Akers (the NFL kicker)
Anyone have any others?

Cant think of any off the top of my head but, because he is infinitely awesome, I edited in Maynard James Keenan to the Fan Post. Props for remembering that.
Actually come to think of it I remember Shaq trains in MMA during the offseason

Jeffery Donovan, who plays Michael Weston on Burn Notice does Jiu-Jitsu, on top of having a black belt in Karate and having 6 years of aikido. They even incorporate it into the show. I think I remember the guy pulling guard once, and I think he even got a triangle on somebody in a later episode. Man, I love that show.

I don’t know Sambo too well, but I think that he used some in the episode that dealt with that Russian syndicate.

Santonio Holmes...
I’ll counter the Maynard James Keenan w/ Marilyn Manson, he’s a black belt in Jeet Kun Do.
Roy Jones, Jr is also dabbling in BJJ.
