Tito Ortiz to Commentate for Affliction: Day of Reckoning
He did well enough for me when Kimo fought Shamrock at UFC 48, so I guess I'm ok with the move. From a press release in my inbox:
Anaheim, CA (December 17, 2008)-Former UFC® Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz has agreed to be part of the broadcast team for Affliction "Day of Reckoning," the explosive six-fight Pay-Per-View event headlined by Fedor Emelianenkovs. Andrei Arlovski set for Saturday, January 24 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Ortiz, along with a team of broadcasters soon to be announced, will do color commentating for the telecast, as well as make several appearances throughout the promotion. "Tito Ortiz is an icon in the sport of MMA," said Tom Atencio, Vice President of Affliction. "He is an excellent addition to our already stellar line-up of entertainment for January 24 and will be able to provide fight insight unlike anyone else. We are extremely excited to have him on board." Ortiz, who began his career in mixed martial arts over two decades ago, is an expert in the sport. He is familiar with all of the fighters on the "Day of Reckoning" fightcard, particularly Vladimir Matyushenko and Vitor Belfort, who Ortiz defeated in 2001 and 2005 respectively. In May 2008, he officially ended his run with UFC® and has since focused on his "Punishment Athletics" clothing line and taking advantage of other new opportunities such as his appearance on the "Day of Reckoning" telecast. "I am thrilled to be a part of Affliction 'Day of Reckoning,'" said Ortiz. "The sport of MMA is thriving right now and can only grow with events such as this one. Broadcasting is somewhat new for me and I am really looking forward to working with Affliction leading up to the show and the entire fight broadcast team to make it a really special night for fans." A celebrity in his own right, Ortiz has become one of the most recognizable MMA fighters in the world, especially since crossing over into mainstream media through his role as a judge on the 2006 UFC® Ultimate Fighting Championship® reality TV series and his recent appearance as a cast member on the first season of Celebrity Apprentice. Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and brought to you by Affliction Entertainment and its partners, Donald J. Trump and M-1 Global, Affliction "Day of Reckoning" is scheduled to include 11 rousing bouts of fierce, full-throttle battle headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski. The six-fight blockbuster PPV telecast beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT features MMA stars Josh Barnett, Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Chris Horodecki, Matt Lindland and Paul Buentello in separate bouts. As a prelude to the highly anticipated PPV telecast, HDNet will telecast live from 7:30-9 p.m. ET/4:30-6 p.m. PT five additional fights with the marquee match-up of Antonio Nogueira vs. Vladimir Matyushenko as the main event.

Maybe he will challenge the winner of one of the fights and/or give them flowers.

ahahaha!
I remember that. The look on Sakuraba’s face after kiss was priceless. They flew Tito to Japan just for to hand over flowers; such was his star power.

Sweet, Tito will say a lot of things to stir the pot. He will neither back down nor be a shill. Tito is still a champ at running his mouth.

Tito Ortiz will join play-by-play announcer Sean Wheelock and color commentator Jimmy Smith to call the action at "Day of Reckoning," which features a bout between world-ranked heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski. The Wheelock-Smith team currently calls the shots for M-1 Global, which airs a weekly show on HDNet and will be collaborating with Affliction on the Jan. 24 event.

I wish they could have Jim Ross next to him.
“And Fedor has the armbar locked in! Arlovski will have to tap! Wait, Tito… Where are you going? Where is Tito going? BAH GAWD, TITO ORTIZ HAS JUMPED INTO THE RING! ORTIZ HAS A STEEL CHAIR!”
clang
“ORTIZ HAS KNOCKED OUT FEDOR WITH THE STEEL CHAIR! THE REF DOESN’T SEE IT! SOMEONE STOP HIM! NOOOOO!!!!”
It would be classic.

I hope Tito spends the entire broadcast talking about himself in 3rd person. Or sometime during the card tries to replace one of the other broadcasters with Jenna cause he feels she has better things to say.
Seriously, he is the 3rd commentator. Try to chime in once a fight, maybe say something controversial. It’s a plush, easy job to keep his name relevant. Still a good chance he does something to become a YouTube sensation.

I cant wait to hear
“You know, I’ve been doing this for 11 amount of years”
“Im a veteran in this sport”
“I have the best fans in the world”
“I’ll be back better than ever”
“I want my belt back”
“I’ve given 11 years of my life to this sport”
He will say this over and over through out the broadcast, just in different variations :P
Almost forgot
“Jenna, I love you baby” He has to check in.

“I tried that move on Jenna and it wasn’t a good idea…”
“That reminds me of this appetizer I ordered at the Sizzler yesterday”
“Huge victory for him, but I doubt he’ll be going home with a certain Jenna Jameson”
“Reminds me of my victory over Wanderlie”
“That fight reminded me of Machida. A lot of people think I won that fight”
“Fedor reminds me of myself 5 years ago”

I’m glad someone at least remembers he did commentating work at UFC 48 and wasn’t bad at all. He’ll be a upgrade from Frank Trigg for sure.

It will be a complete trainwreck but Tito is normally pretty entertaining on the mike and maybe they will let him do some in ring interviews :D

![Tito Ortiz says he had bills to be paid and Chuck Liddell was an alcoholic:
"I have no more back problems, but other things started coming about," Ortiz said. "The first week of training (for UFC 106), I got bounced on my head. I had C6 and C7 discs pressing on my spinal cord. I shouldn't have fought. But when you take 18 months off and bills have to be paid? I'll suck it up."
"Two weeks before the fight, I was wrestling with one of my partners, and we collided heads. I fractured my orbital bone. I don't remember the weigh-ins. I don't remember the fight. All I remember was the beginning of the third round."
... "I think [Liddell] had a problem," Ortiz said. "A lot of people go through addiction. I think his deal was he was an alcoholic. He loved to party." "He's been sober since November, and he looks like a different person. It's awesome. I'm proud of him – really proud of him."
