Betting Lines Released for Fedor vs Arlovski

This Fan Post was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas.

5Dimes sportsbook is first to release betting line for  Fedor vs Arlovski. Not surprisingly Fedor is the big favorite once again. Here is the line as it stands at the time of publishing.

Andrei Arlovski +325
Fedor Emelianenko -475

Some sharp bettors have already jumped on Arlovski.

The line opened up with Arlovski +400 and Fedor at -600. Once again betting on this fight is only available at 5Dimes but most sportsbooks are set to follow in the next few days.

Clearly Fedor was always going to be the favourite but is he over or undervalued at -475?

I don’t see AA as a threat at all to Fedor. He is too one-dimensional.

Fight hits the ground, good bye AA.

I’d still take Fedor at -600.

by Rundownloser on Dec 16, 2008 4:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

At those odds its not really worth it betting for Fedor. I think the gap will most definitely close come January, so i think its foolish to bet on Fedor at this time.

Hell, at these odds i would sneak a bet on Arlovski, although as the gap closes no way.

by iamtheoriginalchris on Dec 17, 2008 7:55 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

With his hands, he’s not as big a dog as a Sylvia. so, I would def lay some cash on Arlovski to catch Fedor early. Will it happen? I doubt it. But with that betting line it may be worth the risk to lay a hundo on it.

by lbk on Dec 16, 2008 5:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Fuck it – bet Arlovski. I definitely give him one fight out of FOUR with his punching power.

by subo on Dec 16, 2008 5:30 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Too bad he doesn't get FOUR chances, then...

Only ONE. And Fedor will take that one hands down. It will go to ground in the first couple minutes. Fedor by armbar or kimura. Over.

1 in 4. That sounds about right.

I’d take that bet. Arlovski has a puncher’s chance for sure.

by pud333 on Dec 16, 2008 7:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He’s being way overvalued, considering how easy it is come up with 4 fighters who had “a puncher’s chance” against Fedor and lost.

by George Lucas on Dec 16, 2008 8:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

Fedor at -475? Arlovski was the fucking UFC heavyweight champ. I don’t think he should be +325 to anybody. He’s probably not going to win, but at +325 I might take a risk on it.

Andrei is a top fighter..

But come on. No safer bet in the world than Fedor.

by JCS_FM on Dec 16, 2008 6:44 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I dunno...

I might think Spider is safer money than Fedor, but Fedor is right up there for sure.

How about Miguel Torres?

by subo on Dec 16, 2008 7:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Looking at the Spider’s latest opponents and list of rumored to-be opponents I’d say he is a safe bet myself.

I like the Pitbull, but I was not overly impressed with the way he was just laying on his back against Nelson.

If the ref hadn`t stood them up (while Nelson was in sidecontrol) AA would have been in some serious trouble. And Nelson isn`t exactly Fedor.

how do you read fighting betting lines?

im not impressed with your performance

by troy145 on Dec 16, 2008 7:13 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

+x = you’ll get x back if you bet $100 (ie, bet $100 on AA to win $325)
-x = you have to bet x to win $100 (ie, bet $475 on Fedor to get $575 back)

by subo on Dec 16, 2008 7:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

according to the lines… couture v lesnar was a more competitive fight.

by mmalogic on Dec 16, 2008 7:47 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Very true, actually. Fedor’s got some kind of mystique/aura (which Curt Schilling referred to as ‘dancers in a night club’ when he faced the Yankees in the Series :-)

by subo on Dec 16, 2008 8:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

If I were a betting

man I think I’d be tempted to throw a hundred bucks down of Arlovski with the odds the way they are.I’m not saying he’s going to win but if I was a gambler I’d bet Arlovski with the chance to get a good payoff as opposed to putting up nearly five hundred dollars on Fedor to get back an extra hundred bucks. It’s not like Fedor is fighting Zulu Jr. in this fight.

by tylerdurden1 on Dec 16, 2008 9:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Good thing you're not a betting man

because you would be “felted”. This isn’t the fight to bet on an underdog. Fedor is going to walk through Arlovski.

by KneesnBows on Dec 16, 2008 10:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Like I said I didn’t say Arlovski was going to win. I said if I were to bet I’d bet on him because of the potential pay off do you not understand the difference.Plus this is a one hundred dollar bet I’m talking about not an “All In” bet.

of how bookies make money.

Fedor is P4P the best and

would destory everyone in the divison.

Nog will beat Mir, Nog will beat Brock. Fedor will beat Nog for a 3rd(should be 4th) and final time.

Sweet thanks, now I don’t have to watch any more MMA. You have freed up so much time for me, thank you.

by iiowyn on Dec 17, 2008 10:52 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think this might trend towards Andrei some more, but suffice to say I’ll be betting Fedor here.

by Mike Fagan on Dec 16, 2008 11:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Fedor will beat Arlovski. I think that’s as safe a bet as anyone is going to ever make.

Still… I don’t think anyone is unbeatable. Arlovski might only win one in a hypothetical 10-fight series with Fedor (I think Nog might be able to take three out of ten – maybe) – but what if that ONE fight happens on Jan 24th? No one has done it for eight long years (and the one loss was via cut) – but for the sake of argument, what if?

I’d probably not bet at all on this fight. I don’t have the cash to make any money off Fedor and like I said, I don’t think Arlovski is going to win.
Still, even the Last Emperor might slip one day.

by lhasafi on Dec 17, 2008 3:50 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

AA has the best shot of any heavyweight, except maybe Josh Barnett. That being said I think the line is about right.

It wouldn’t it be any better for Silva against any MW

by EazyEismydad on Dec 17, 2008 5:50 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

if i was to bet a 1000 dollars in that fight card. I’d throw in a hundred on AA.
If fedor wins then hopefully the 900 could win back more than that hundred, if he loses then its $$$$$..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 17, 2008 7:01 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

So, If Fedor wins, you win 89 dollars (189 minus the hundred you bet on AA) and if AA wins, you lose 575. Good luck with that.

by Phildo on Dec 17, 2008 10:44 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

… he wasn’t saying he’d bet the whole 1000 on that one fight — just 100 on that fight, on AA, and hope that the 900 bet on other fights would pay enough to make up for losing 100 on AA if Fedor wins.

by Kierkegaard on Dec 17, 2008 12:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I read it as “if fedor wins, i can win back that 100.” They design these numbers so you can’t do stuff like that.

by Phildo on Dec 17, 2008 12:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

… and I’m pretty sure what he meant when he said that was: “I’ll put 100 on AA, and if Fedor wins instead then hopefully the 900 I put on the other fights will pay off enough to make up for it.”

I could be wrong, but it seems pretty clear to me that he wasn’t trying to suggest he was putting 900 on Fedor and 100 on AA. As you said, that won’t work or make any sense.

by Kierkegaard on Dec 17, 2008 2:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I read it as such. He said 100 on AA and implied that either the 900 is going on Fedor or he is hoping he can make 100 with the 900 on the rest of the card. Either way, its a gamble. When I read it, it seemed to me that he wanted to put 900 on Fedor and that he didn’t understand how betting works, but what ever.

by szucconi on Dec 17, 2008 3:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Perhaps I just gave weo more credit than he deserved, then! I guess we’ll never know what he meant unless he comes back here and tells us.
