Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale Awards and Bonuses
Ultimate Fighter 8 Fight of the Night
– Junie Browning and Dave Kaplan
Ultimate Fighter 8 Knockout of the Night
– Anthony Johnson
Ultimate Fighter 8 Submission of the Night
– Krzysztof Soszynski
All awards include a $25,000 bonus for each fighter
Junie Browning and Dave Kaplan got fight of the night honors after a two round fight ending in an armbar win by Junie Browning. Although the fight lasted only a round and a half, it was enough to get both fighters the $25,000 bonus. Junie, showing lots of maturity since being in the TUF house, apologized to Frank Mir and his team of coaches after the fight.
Anthony Johnson's crocop-like head kick avenged his earlier loss to Kevin Burns and earned him the $25,000 Knockout of the night bonus.
Krzysztof Soszynski earned the Submission of the Night Bonus by pulling off a second round kimura that left Shane Primm in pain well after he tapped.

TUF 8 Finale salaries: Gouveia top earner, cast winners earn $16K
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Dec 14, 2008 at 3:55 am ET
Despite losing 20 percent of his purse after failing to make the middleweight division’s 186-pound limit, Wilson Gouveia was the top earner at “The Ultimate Fighter 8” finale.

I didn’t even notice that. Guess it was a bad typo, but seems they fixed it.

Junie and Kaplan was fight of the night? What the hell?

Yeah...
…that’s a load.
AJ/Burns was at least as entertaining but A) I’m sure they want to justify Junie as an “exciting fighter” and B) they don’t want to give AJ a second bonus.

They might (probably will) mention he won FOTN on air sometime, but it will go largely unknown to the masses. I think option B is where most of the reason resides. They can always give Johnson more on the back-end, but want to make sure others get the OFN love.
Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

I’ll be honest, it was the most entertaining to me. Both the Burns/Johnson and Escudero/Nover fights had large instances of people sitting in guard for long stretches of rounds. To me, sitting in guard or half guard throwing ineffective strikes is just not exciting for me.

I think Dana knows what everyone thinks of Junie and is just pushing him to antagonise us. Rogan and Goldy also tightly embraced Junie’s testes the entire fight too. I think the Efrain/Nover fight was more exciting because the underdog figured out the weakness of the guy who was supposed to thrash him and exploited it. Kind of like a 1/2 scale Couture/Sylvia.

Agreed
FOTN Bonus should have gone to Escudero/Nover. Dana and his Junie nuthugging continues. Lame.
