Quote of the Day: Wanderlei Silva Rejects Juanito Ibarra's Offer to Betray Rampage Jackson

"I've received a letter from someone offering training with Juanito to me, but I didn't care to accept it.
"(The letter) contained phone numbers that I could use to get in touch with Juanito, but I threw it away.
"I think it's unethical to accept the former coach of my opponent, and if Juanito is doing this with Rampage, he may do the same with me later."
Wanderlei Silva talking to Brazil Combate TV about Juanito Ibarra, the former coach of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, offer to train him for his upcoming bout with Rampage.

I know some people don't like Wanderlei
but he is the only fighter I really root for. The guy is an amazing fighter and an all around nice guy outside of the cage. Even with someone he dislikes like rampage, he declines an offer to get one up on him. Wandy is a class act and Although I like both fighters, I want Wand to win in devestating fashion.

I don’t think there’s anyone who dislike Wanderlei. He’s great for MMA. However, I think Rampage will beat him this time around.
You’re forgetting someone. Rampage HATES Wanderlei.
I think that Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman and CrazyHorse Bennett aren’t such big fans either.
And if I recall correctly, Pele and Anderson Silva left Chute Boxe under a cloud too, not sure if Wanderlei was in the middle of that or not.
Put my money where my mouth is...
For sure, you’re on.
Hmm… what’s a witty signature? Suggestions, fellow readers?
“Junie Browning’s #1 fan?”
“Rampage/Wanderlei’s bitch?”
I’ve been trying to think of something good all afternoon!
“President of Josh "Bring the Pain” Haynes Bandwagon"?
I’m going to settle on: “Junie Browning’s #1 Fan and a terrible predictor of fights.”
Sig stays until the next UFC.

Juanito is one of those guys who claims to be a christian but probably never opens his bible (assuming he has one) and only uses christianity for the sake of prayer.
uhhh
are you claimint to personally know where Juanito’s heart is regarding his faith? Thats a bold statement, and never a good idea to question someones faith unless you personally know them.

My buddy ran into him the day after the Jardine fight, sitting and waiting in his wife at an outlet mall of all places, lol. He said he looked over and here is this scary looking guy in a polo shirt, shorts and tube socks, lol! Wandy made eye contact and knew my friend recognized him, said hello and shook his hand. Cool dude for sure.
Eliot Marshall: Bader won. Like I said in the episode, I'm not going to make any excuses. It's my job to be able to deal with when somebody's doing that. It's not his job to change up his tactics.

Damn Juanito
Thats not right, holmes!
Wandy is the shit! 2 fighters I love, I just can’t pick a fav in this fight. Its a lose/lose situation for me. :(
I know its a repeat of the above sentiments
But seriously, Wandy is awesome and we’re really lucky to have him in the UFC.

Juanito is a scumbag. Props to the axe murderer for taking the high road.

Even if true (and it likely is)...
Quinton has changed camp; his training at Wolfslair will be significantly different to how he worked with Ibarra so it’s not like Wanderlei could learn anything about how Jackson is approaching this fight.

Also: Wanderlei is legitimately a good human being, if there were any doubt of it before.

classy move, but also...
… a good way to get inside rampage’s head. i’m sure he’s trying to put the whole juanito scenario behind him, so i can’t imagine he’d be too excited to hear that he tried to sell him out to his opponent.
can this fight be today, please
"if Juanito is doing this with Rampage, he may do the same with me later."
I really think this about sums it up. I am sure he is a nice guy.
Being on the internet gives me a right...nay a responsibility to bitch about things
And please stop saying what a good guy Wandy is to reject the training..
Um..why would ANYONE even consider the offer? Doesn’t make you a good guy or classy. I would think it’s incredibly standard to not even talk about the offer publicly let alone accept it.
YES!
Why would someone accept the offer of training from the guy who trained your opponent into the changed/improved fighter he’s become?
Only an idiot would do something stupid like that….just ask Manny Pacquio!
Look, your point may..MAY be valid normally, but if you were up on your current info, you would know that Page currently trains with Wilfslair and has been for quite some time now. I don’t think Wandy switching training camps a month before a fight simply to get some inside info on Page would matter at this point.
Not to mention they have fought enough that they both know each other well by now.
And look, you would have to be a real clown to even consider that kind of offer. Any name athlete that would accept this kind of arrangement would be laughed at.

Thanks bro, I’m well aware of the “current info” that ‘Page trains with Wolfslair. But it’s not as if they’re going to be massively overhauling the type of fighter that he is, unlike his previous trainer (Ibarra) who changed many things in Rampage’s game (brawler with slams —> much more well rounded fighter with far tighter striking).
And do you know what you’re talking about?
(a) Of course many fighters would accept training from someone’s former trainer (ODH took Mayweather Jr.‘s old trainer, Pacman took ODH’s old trainer, lots of guys do this all the time); and
(b) he’s not “switching camps”…Juanito is offering to come to his gym/camp and provide what is basically consulting to augment his training.
Dude…Ibarro is a JOKE. You REALLY think anyone would take him on at this point? You seem to be comparing this to a freddie Roach situation. Roach has respect in the community. Ibarro does not. Completely apples and oranges that comparison you are trying to make.
John Hackleman is hardly a “Freddie Roach”, but if he ever offered to “help out” someone’s camp going into a fight against Chuck Liddell don’t you think he might be able to provide a lot of unknown insights on the fighter?
This is the “service” Ibarra is offering…which I don’t think you’re get.
Here’s the thing you are not getting: Ibarro is a joke. A fraud. All others you have mentioned so far, i.e hacklman, Roach..are not.
How are you comparing those guys with Ibarro? I don’t understand how you can try and compare them?
do you not understand that no fighter worth his salt will assosciate with a guy like Ibarro now?
Other than he’s involved with some accusations of “shady management dealings”, which part of his actual training is a joke? Did he not make Rampage Jackson a UFC LHW champion and vastly improved his ability to realize his potential?
Whether he’s a “joke” is irrelevant, I bet there’s tons of people who would and do take up an offer like that.
PR, homes. Or maybe he actually is a genuinely good, naïve person who discloses this because he feels morally required to?

Juanito’s one scummy motherfucker.
if Juanito is doing this with Rampage, he may do the same with me later.
And he’s this smart? Oh, shit.
by Derek Suboticki on Dec 12, 2008 3:32 PM EST reply actions
Who does Juanito train now?
Now that he lost Rampage and Kongo who is Juanito training?
While its a dick move to offer his services to Wanderlei I think this move is more of desperation.
if Juanito is doing this with Rampage, he may do the same with me later.
Why does that quote seem indicative of Wanderlei’s “nice guy” status to some of you? I interpret it as Wanderlei being smart and selfish. He’s not rejecting the offer because he likes Quinton, he’s rejecting the offer with self preservation in mind.
I’m not saying Silva’s Not a nice guy, just saying that quote doesn’t prove it.
And yes, Juanito is a Douchebag.

a bunch of bull
just gossip! anyone who knows juanito ….knows that he did not send any letter to wanderlei. the letter came from another punk. any person with NO LIFE. YOU all need to STOP listening to lies and gossip. Juanito didn’t do any of this garage. Wanderlei did the right thing. Disgard it. If you want to look at losers look at Rampage. RAMPAGE WAS THE ONE WHO betrayed JUANITO. Spreading lies. Hiding behind Tito Ortiz’s skirt and having him spread lies about Juanito. I know Rampage and the TRUE story!
