ESPN's MMA Live Episode 31
I won't give away too many details, suffice it say there wasn't much coverage of Steve Cantwell's alleged "unsportsmanship" (because it isn't an issue), Miguel Torres gets a huge push and in-studio treatment and Ryan Hockensmith sounds very convinced EliteXC will be back on network television in 2009 in a very similar format to their 2008 showings.
Oh yeah: and there's mercifully very little name dropping by Franklin.

I seriously doubt that anyone taking offense to Cantwell’s behavior has been waiting on McNeil, you, or anyone else for that matter to grant blessing on their indignation. I no longer like Steve Cantwell and he’s on my shit list. I don’t need a notary for my shit list.
if cantwell is on your shitlist, what list is imanari on?

I hope it’s worse. At least Cantwell gave Al-Hassan the chance to tap. Imanari just rips your shit off and goes him with it without even asking.
Cantwell taunted Al-Hassan on the mat and then mimed a bone snapping with his hands as he shouted “BROKE HIS ARM!”
I can see how that would be an issue for a lot of fans.
He did it at least three times and then told the fans to “watch it snap” or something similar as they watched the video replay. I’m not going to lose any sleep over it since his opponent had every opportunity to tap out but it was totally unnecessary to gloat about it and show how excited he was to snap the arm afterward.
I agree
It’s a really lame thing to be vocally pleased with having seriously injured your opponent. It’s enough to win. He didn’t do himself any favours by bragging about injuring the guy. I also won’t lose any sleep over it, but I will be hoping to see him get smashed in his next fight. Put him up against the spider and let him prove his mettle if he wants to be a bad motha.
I don't think this is registering..
Luke, I don’t care that he broke his arm. It’s bound to happen when a guy is too stubborn to tap. Yes— too stubborn, too proud, or too stupid— to tap. Arms break when you bend them back. Such is life as a mixed martial artist. And some celebrating is great. Rope a lasso, scoop a shovel, do the sign of the cross, ride the fence, pound your chest, tweak your nipples or drum the intro of Hot for Teacher on your cup. But don’t revel at an injury of that magnitude, don’t rub it in his face by gesturing over his fallen body and don’t tell the fans you always wanted to severely injure another human being (particularly one that is making the same living as you and now may not be able to for well over a year). For me this is no different than a football player lowering his head into a special teamer that is trying to foolishly take on a tackle running completely upright. The latter suffers broken ribs, a concussion, or worse— spinal damage. The former did his job, sure. But offer a hand, or an apology, or at least be mindful of the damage done. Jack Tatum did his job when he paralyzed Darryl Stingley and he didn’t apologize either.
That was bullshit. This was bullshit.
Don’t insult me by thinking I don’t have the reading comprehension skills to grasp your argument. I understand it perfectly. I also happen to disagree with it completely. Let’s agree to disagree.
So here’s the deal: I’m turning into a prick when talking to readers. I’m going to leave this post. I stand 100% by my argument, but I’m not going to respond for a while.
Since when does “it isn’t an issue” pass for an argument?

Reading comprehension?
Relax.. I’m not being insulting. You’re taking it as such. You’re revisiting (in reply to my comments) how he gave him a chance to tap, or how it was his duty to break his arm, or how things are said and done in locker rooms and I’m not arguing that (nor was I ever). I wouldn’t even be arguing with you if not for the fact that you’re making your word gospel. You’re saying that nothing is wrong with it, almost subjectively. Fine, you don’t care. I do. So don’t insult me (which, mind you, you aren’t— but by the same logic as I was somehow insulting you) by saying that I don’t have a right to it, because I find a precedent. If we’re going to agree to disagree, let’s stop blowing raspberries.

You’re going to have to go say I look like a douche on my picture in Fan Shots to get my blood boiling. It’s all good..

I’ve got to say that I dig the above comment.

I got 5 minutes in, and now I can’t view any of the MMA Live videos on the ESPN website. Not sure what is up.

Oh weird. Watching it now, they do have footage from UFN at the beginning. They must have added it to the prerecorded part.

There’s definitely a lot of douchebags in mma. It appears that Cantwell is one of them. But I frown on all of the emotional outbursts whether it is Steve Cantwell displaying joy at maiming his opponent or Forrest Griffin crying in a corner. These clowns are constantly overwhelmed by the moment. I’m embarrassed for them.
All this and...
…no one commenting on the supposed resurrection of EXC…
Has everyone forgotten their $55mil in debt or completely incompetent management?
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Pretty much, all the mma experts are saying that EliteXC will be back next year running shows with their fighters. I think people want to ignore it, and then maybe it won’t come true. :)
I will be glad when they start showing free MMA again on CBS and Showtime.

One issue..
from what we have been told, all of those fighters have that option out of their contracts after 30 days…next year is considerably longer and far too long to ask a person to not be able to work for a payday.
Additionally, after all the schenanigans that the EXC management has pulled, would any of these fighters really want to continue employment with them? How many more shows before they are back in this situation? Where did all that debt go?
Also, no comments on Molly’s rack. Personally, I find that more surprising.

It should be noted..
..there was no discussion regarding the Fight for the Troops, only a reading of results by Anik, because it occured after the MMA Live program was originally taped.
