Quote of the Day: "That's Not Paulo Filho"
"Anyone who knows him knows that’s not Paulo Filho. He didn’t show up.
He’s had a rough year. He felt he wasn’t prepared. Actually, he wasn’t prepared at all. We have to take baby steps to get him focused, to get him back on track."
-- Ed Soares, manager of Paulo Filho, discussing Filho's WEC match against Chael Sonnen.

Life without PEDs, must be tough. Is there really any question that he was on PEDs now? He filled in like the stay puft marshmallow man. He pulled out of a fight because of a drug dependance, although it was reportedly a drug for deprestion. If you have only seen his fights in the WEC you really have no idea how anyone could say he is number 2 in the world.

He’s definitely not #2 in the world anymore, but I wouldn’t necessarily go so far as to say a lack of performance enhancing drugs was the cause. Depression is a serious illness. It’s easy to see how he could gain weight and get out of shape if he was as depressed as a lot of the reporting seemed to indicate.

No, you take his physique and dominance from Pride and you compare his physique and dominance in WEC. Pride had better talent than the WEC. Depression or drug withdrawal?

They said it was Rohypnol that he was hooked on. That shit is hell on your body and I’m sure life after it is twice as rough. Dude relapsed and was probably high during the fight or its permanently warped him.

No compassion for Filho
He even had a second chance to do things right, since the orig event was postponed. His inability to be a professional cost Sonnen an opportunity.
If by “baby steps” he means “get out of the WEC and hand the belt over to Chael”, then I’m all for it. Otherwise, he gets no love.
Whatever. Call the SPCA, cuz I’m beating a dead horse.

Amaury Bitetti also claims that Paulo didn’t train for the fight. At all. He says he claimed to have trained by himself, but then showed up in Florida out of shape. Weren’t there rumblings that he had been training with Silva of late, and that he looked impressive? How do his friends and training partners (who are one in the same— Bitetti being an example) just take him at his word that he’s training on his own? They know the man is troubled. Seems that they’d be more involved, whether he likes it or not..
