Fedor Cancels US Press Tour to Concentrate on Arlovski
According to a press statement from M-1 Global:"My trainers, Vladimir Voronov and Alexander Michkov, met with me in Russia after the World Sambo Championships and we decided that the Arlovski confrontation is too important to delay a comprehensive training camp in exchange for press tour obligations on the other side of the world," said Emelianenko. "Andrei Arlovski is a dangerous fighter and has looked in prime condition and at the top of his game in his last few fights. He is one of the top three heavyweights in the world. This is not a fighter I will defeat if I am taking shortcuts in training."HT: Fightlinker.com

I don’t think so. He just lost a sambo match for the first time in who knows how long, so it’s not unreasonable to think he might want to spend a little more time refining his skills.
Keep in mind Affliction 2 is a little over eight weeks away. He should be started his training camp for Arlovski right now. Fedor’s refusal to go on a US press tour is more a function of him wanting to hold a proper training camp rather than anything else.
Its a good idea as traveling would seriously disrupt flow during training. It is much easier for arlovski as he is based in the US.
As for conspiracy theorists…ugh

Good for Fedor...bad for Affliction
This does not bode well for Affliction’s marketing campaign…

Especially considering all the money they put into marketing him with the CBS/Elite XC ads.

Smart Move...
Arlovski will be the first real test Fedor has had in awhile. He’s not taking any chances. A loss would knock him down the ladder a few rungs. Somebody is getting knocked out/submitted. Man, this is going to be a great fight.
Maybe he senses Affliction days are numbered. He wants to set himself up for a nice payday when the UFC tries to pick him up if/when Affliction goes down.
Everytime I watch Fedor fight I am nervous haha.. Just like when I watch Randy fight.
When Hunt had him in that submission I was shaking my head at the TV like “no.. no.. no”
I think Arlovski presents a lot of danger to Fedor, and any heavyweight for that matter, but if Fedor watched the Nelson fight, he saw how helpless Arlovski was in side control, and there will be no quick standup in the Fedor fight. Fedor is a master from side control and will likely get that kimura that Roy failed to get. And that is how I see it going, it would be wise for Fedor to not strike with Arlovski, at the very least for a risk of cuts.
Gotcha
Multiple sights are so full of conspiracy this and that…it gets old. I want affliction to succeed…I want MMA to prosper and be more than “ultimate fighting”.

I think people that are talking about how “great” Arlovski has been looking in his last few fights, and he has mind you, are not taking into consideration that he was fighting guys way below his level and who are just not in that “elite” or upper echelon of HW fighters.
I still don’t know if we’ll see that Arlovski when he knows he’s not fighting guys he can turn into HL reels.
well..
he didn’t look like the guy he has been the last couple fights when he fought Werdum. He could have posterized Werdum in that fight it seems…but he was waaay too cautious.

I agree with you. To put things into perspective, the last two UFC guys he beat have basically been run out of the UFC by losing badly to up and coming fighters. O’Brien who he had trouble putting away for a round and a half was complete outclassed by Valasquez. As for Rothwell and Nelson, we already know that the IFL veterans are far from upper echelon fighters. Every single fighter he’s beaten is no longer fighting for the UFC. Arlovski tend to turtle up when fighting top competition as I suspect is the case here.
Arlovski’s elite status is a mirage. He’s a mid-tier fighter and I expect Fedor to handle him quickly.
Wow, a mid-tier fighter!
AA beating those guys has gone a long way toward eliminating those guys from either the UFC or presumed elite tier, except for O’Brien. It’s not as though any of the fighters mentioned had any success against Arlovski. You can claim only Big Country won a round, but he’s beaten everyone soundly. If he were still in the UFC he’d be facing Big Nog instead of Mir.
Also, the only match you can say he turtled was Sylvia III. FYI, he busted his knee 2nd round.
Fedor said it himself, he doesn’t believe he can waist the training time on a PR tour.
Big Country took him down pretty easily. A guy like Lesnar would take him down and keep him there for good. Too bad Nelson had no cardio in that big body of his or Arlovski could have been in real trouble. There is no way Nelson can compete in the UFC with that kind of physiqe and cadio: slow, fat, and no cardio.
Did you get forget that snoozefest that was the Werdum fight? If that wasn’t turtling I don’t know what is. Sorry if I’m not impressed with his two wins over IFL fighters.
I should clarify that “mid-tier” means mid to low tier top ten. I wasn’t implying that Arlovski isn’t top ten, just not elite which is top 5.
Your top 5 that doesn’t include Arlovski? And why do I expect the shells of Frank Mir or Randy Couture being there?

no, nelson did not take arlovski down pretty easy. as a matter of fact arlovski too fat fuck nelson down and he got reversed. that fight would have never seen the ground had arlovski not taken it there. try watching the 1rst rnd again if you dont believe me.
Nelson bowls forward and gets into the clinch Arlovski trips Nelson, but Nelson rolls through and reverses when they hit the ground, and gets top position. Nelson deftly moves from half guard to side control. Nelson holding side mount well, and slowly gets a hold of Arlovski’s arm. As Nelson attempts to crank a keylock, Arlovski shifts, but Nelson is able to stay on top and move to north-south. As Nelson moves back to side, Arlovski bucks and moves away. Nelson stands above Arlovski in Ali-Inoki position, and surprisingly dives back onto the ground, and gets into Arlovski’s half guard, and moves to side. Nelson gets a figure-four position on the arm, but is stood up by referee Jorge Ortiz before he can crank it. On the feet, Nelson closes the distance again, ramming Arlovski into the cage. Arlovski with a sharp knee to the face as Nelson looks to go for a high crotch takedown. The Sunrise crowd drone in boos as Nelson continues bulling Arlovski into the fence, until Ortiz breaks them apart again. Arlovski rips a hard low kick and lands with a one-two combination. Arlovski lands two more hard low kicks as Nelson wades forward with single punches. Nelson clinches up with Arlovski as he comes forward, pushing him into the fence again as the round expires.
Jordan Breen scores the round: 10-9 Nelson
TJ DeSantis scores the round: 10-9 Nelson
Greg Savage scores the round: 10-9 Nelson
What does it matter how they got there? Nelson got into side mount and dominated that round on the ground. He got reversed by a “fat fuck” as you so eloquently put it. If Nelson can dominate him on the ground, then Fedor or Lesnar would kill him there. The point is that Nelson was winning the fight until he gassed. If i remember correctly, the referee also lent Arlovski a hand when he stood them up from side control. You want me to be impressed by that win?

Heavyweight Andrei Arlovski is training for the biggest fight of his life, and if the Chicago-based mixed martial artist defeats top-ranked Fedor Emelianenko on Jan. 24, it will reflect his ability to learn multiple combat-sport disciplines.
Arlovski also is embarking on a venture to show how well he can teach certain disciplines. Overtime MMA Training Center — Home of Andrei Arlovski is a new gym in Naperville dedicated to teaching mixed martial arts to those who want to become fighters or just want to use the workout regimen to stay in shape.
‘’Andrei will do some boxing classes MMA-style. He’ll be a good instructor,‘’ said Sean Bormet, a former assistant wrestling coach at Michigan and a two-time All-American wrestler for the Wolverines, who runs Overtime. ’’I think we have in each of the disciplines instructors who have experience teaching the techniques and experience applying the techniques.
‘’A lot of our instructors have competed and are still competing or have coached on a national level. Our wrestling staff is heavily involved at the U.S. national level in coaching.’’
Overtime has been one of the top wrestling sites in the country for the last eight years and is a regional training site for the U.S. wrestling team. But with the emergence of MMA, the gym is restructuring itself to include that kind of training. And as Bormet explains, traditional wrestling and MMA wrestling use different techniques.
’’You’re still going for positioning with MMA wrestling, but you have to be aware you can be punched in the face,‘’ said Bormet, who is one of Arlovski’s wrestling coaches. ’’You’re still trying to get a guy down and get on top or stay on your feet and stop him from taking you down.
‘’A lot of techniques are similar, but the head position is different because of striking. A guy with a wrestling background commonly will stand with his right leg forward if he’s right-handed. But in boxing, if you’re right-handed, you lead with your left leg. You have to decide what your strength is.’’
The 6-4, 220-pound Arlovski is a well-rounded fighter known primarily for his striking power. He still will train at Jabb Gym on the Near West Side, where Mike Garcia trains him in boxing, but he’ll be doing some instructing at Overtime. His first class will be Wednesday.
‘’I don’t know yet how good of a teacher or instructor I’ll be,‘’ Arlovski said. ’’I will do my best in teaching what Mike and others have taught me.
’’I’m excited about the opportunity because my name is on this facility.’’
Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Rory Markham will be teaching boxing and kickboxing. Jujitsu black belt Jeff Neel and former NCAA wrestling champ John Kading also are instructors.
‘’We have very good instructors,’’ Arlovski said. ‘’Before this, it was a really good wrestling gym, a great facility.’’
Arlovski said his training for Emelianenko is right on target, and all indications are he is in peak form. He soon will be traveling to Los Angeles to work for a few weeks with boxing coach Freddie Roach.
‘’Everything with my training has gone great so far,’’ Arlovski said. ’’We’re putting everything together.
‘’My trainers are very excited. They’re like proud parents, and I want to prove them right.’’
