Effect of a DQ on rankings
Am I alone in thinking that a DQ (disqualification, not dairy queen)shouldnt be entirely ignored when it comes to rankings?
For example, when nick Diaz put the gogo on Gomi the fight was thrown out because Nick smokes pot. Gomi didnt drop in the polls, he's still #2 in some of them today and hasn't done anything significant since.
Another case: Crocop vs Overeem. It was a DQ for the knees to the nuts but anyone who watched that fight saw what was happening. Crocop was getting owned. And yet crocop is still in many top tens and ahead of overeem in some cases.
I'm not dissing any of the fighters. I am fans of all the aforementioned fighters. I just know what I saw and I think it should effect rankings.
Does anyone else have other examples of this?
Does anyone completely disagree with me? (regarding this post, not how pretty my mom is or anything)
Also, I'm new to this. How the F do I attach a pic from my desktop?

Why – do you think your mom’s hot or something?
But seriously, I don’t think you can hold a DQ loss against a guy. Sure, the two scenarios you mentioned are pretty clear cut, but I’d hate to do that case by case if I ranked fights. Better to have a firm rule against penalizing someone for a DQ.

you sonofabitch! i said not to talk about how pretty my mom is.
nah, thanks for replying. i’m just trying to get the hang of blogging.
ranking in mma are a lot like college football coaches poll. the people writing the ranking dont watch the fights, they just look at records. and in some fights, the loser or disqualified combatent proved to be the better fighter…..
another example to ponder: bisping victory over hammil.

I agree with subo. It’s tough to be objective in rankings if you consider dq’s on a case by case basis. What do you do about one that’s a little bit more on the fence? Better to be consistent across the board, even if it creates a strange situation in a top ten list once and a while.
Besides, the court of public opinion always passes judgment anyway. I remember Gomi losing to Diaz and Cro Cop getting beaten up by Overeem. Even if fighter rankings don’t change reputations do.

With the Cro Cop/Overeem fight you kinda have to throw that fight out the window. How good can a guy be expected to fight if he’s hit with a full force crotch shot? And i don’t believe Cro Cop was getting owned. He was controlled on the ground where he isn’t any good anyways and on the feet every time they went in the clinch Overeem kneed him full force in the balls. Was Cro Cop winning? Probably not but he was definately not getting owned.
