Affliction Shirt Gets Pulled From Nordstrom's
This Fan Post was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas.

Judy Carbo, a Catholic woman in Palm City, Florida, got offended by an Affliction t-shirt she saw at a Nordstrom's that depicted Mary holding the baby Jesus, but with a skull in place of Mary's face. She complained and got the t-shirt removed from the store. News-Press.com has the story:
"As a Catholic and a Christian, it was offensive all the way around. We consider her holy," Carbo said. "If you were Jewish, you wouldn't want to see a swastika on a shirt. If you were African-American, you wouldn't want to see anything that was derogatory towards you."
A Nordstrom's spokeswoman, Brooke White, said:
"It was a mistake on our part to have ordered them in the first place," she said. "We're fortunate we had a customer complain so we could get them off the floor as soon as possible."
Two other shirts have also been removed from the stores.
You can watch the local NBC news video of it here, at NBCPhilidelphia.com.

How do they know that is Mary’s skull?
Mary’s body was never corrupted, so it seems at odds with logic.
I like the idea of Death holding the baby Jesus.

They probably took an existing picture and put a skull where her face was?

Yeah, in the news clip they showed the original painting. They called it the Millenium painting or something but I don’t know religious paintings and couldn’t find a pic of it.
But basically yeah, they just copied a famous religious painting and added the skull and wings things.

As an atheist… Affliction sucks. To have worries about the side of their business that actually makes money cannot be good.

This graphic is highly offensive. Not because of the sacreligious thing, its because that shirt is so damn ugly.

This is the biggest non-issue ever. I cannot believe people give a flying fuck about a horrendous t-shirt in a fucking mall.

Its early in the morning and I’m bored… I’m finding these comments to be entertaining and Affliction is another promotion and these god awfu T Shirts are what brought Affliction into the MMA world.
Expecting people to be surprised that Babalu beat Bobby Southworth or Terry Martin lasting less than 30 seconds against Scott Smith?

I assume Luke is speaking about the actual “offensive t-shirt reaction”, not that people are on here commenting about it.
I mean how could any of us ever be expected to pass on an opportunity to joke about Affliction, their designs and the guys who love them?
If so, then I greatly agree. Get a life lady. You being offended by a t-shirt offends me, you should be banned!

Thats how I took it, us commenting on it made us assholes or something. I think its ridiculous that this was even reported but it was and since this chick wants to make it a religious thing…. well, the good lord blessed me with a sense of humor and the ability to laugh at incredibly stupid stuff…
Thats all I was doing.

OK, I give Affliction about 6 to 9 more months before NASCAR drivers get their own Affliction shirts and you’ll see them being sold in Walmart…. they wll still cost 50 to 80 bucks, but you’ll get a free shirt with the purchase of 2 pairs of Wrangler Jeans and the Stetson gift package.
I agree with the ugliness factor… I will admit that I do own a few Affliction shirts but I won’t be buying their latest garbage… as a “somewhat” religious person, they don’t offend me but holy crap are they ugly.
It sickens me to see Fedor and Josh Barnett modeling their new “dress blazers”…. Tito modeling them, well Jenna Jameson makes you do things you don’t wanna do.

If you are going to be offensive...
Don’t suck as well. At least be funny or cool. Thats a shirt I would wear while I’m painting or something.
Affliction shirts are so lame anyway. The only people that still wear them are just the total douches who wear them 2 sizes too small and start fights at bars and parties.
I wish that company would tank already so the better run organizations could pick up their talented fighters.

The t-shirt side could collapse and I wouldn’t care, but I’d like the MMA side to continue to operate. More fights, more chance to see the fighters we like.

Yeah, I think they want to do a good job as a promotion and give the fans as much as they can. Unfortunately, their business model seems doomed to fail.

what bothers me...
isn’t the religious aspect…
…it’s the fact that it was YET ANOTHER Affliction shirt with a fucking skull on it.

Good eye man, that is Aleksander’s tat on his back. No clue what it means, but ehhh…. someone will buy it from TJ Maxx or Ross since Nordstrom won’t be selling it.

pack away your skull tshirts ;)
I do see Carbo’s perspective.
I think using ‘skull’ was being controversial to drag attention from people – in fashion sense. Apparently too many brands are using it, way too much- thanks to Affliction and now I feel like if i see another skull I will throw up!
Please pack away you skull tshirts!!!
