If Anderson Silva is worth 300k buys with the UFC name, then how much would Fedor be worth? Half that.

Seriously...
…move Silva up to LHW so he can build a name. By that time hopefully a worthy challenger is available at MW.
Or just put Silva on free TV and give him bonuses. Seriously, something has to be done.

Learn English
Maybe if he learned to speak English as well as Fedor they could be more marketable. Or maybe im the only one who hates the little guy that follows them around to translate there every word. If you can become a world class fighter in many different areas im sure learning english wouldn’t be too hard. Rosetta Stone anyone?

Seriously?
Do you really think that the fact that Anderson Silva doesn’t speak english has anything to do with his recognition or the amount of ppv buys the fights he headlines gets. That is really an absurd suggestion. Lesnar’s fights have gotten more press leading up to his fights than Silva’s and thats all there is to it. Silva is a fighter not a politician or a public speaker who the f*#k cares what language he speaks.

I'd say your suggestion is equally absurd
Fans like to identify with fighters. When a fighter doesn’t speak their language, there is a disconnect.
And to your point: I’d venture to guess that Anderson and the UFC care if it is in fact part of the reason he sells fewer PPVs (that means less money in their pockets – which is far from absurd).

You made his pont for him! :)
Brock was able to go on national television and do tons of interviews, interviewers and audiences without having to go through a translator who completely eliminates all the charm and personality that Silva puts in his statements. And I don’t really mean to bully Soares, but he A) doesn’t work in real-time, and B) doesn’t emote* much. Those are key things for a translator to do in order to bring a public speaker (which Silva needs to be, just like Brock and Randy) across the language barrier.
Interviewers and reporters report not only on what is said, but the more complex aspects of human interaction, at least on a subconscious level. This simply isn’t fully possible through an interpreter.
And when you’re talking to the public you need to connect with them emotionally. It seems to me like people either need to feel like they’re with you or against you. If they can’t hear your inflection because of a language barrier, they can’t feel you and they won’t care either way. The only person who can remove that barrier is Silva. Even hiring a better translator won’t do the same thing.
Personally, I would love him just getting a professional translator who does real time translations, but I’m not the majority. I actually like Machida :)

You guys make good points
I wish it wasn’t true but it probably is. I personally don’t care what language a fighter speaks and I am not interested in what they have to say before nor after a fight. I understand that the industry needs a growing fan base in order to survive and fans like to identify with the fighters on some level. I contradict myself by stating that i don’t care what language they speak because i also like Muhammed Ali type show boating and bantering. I am glad i don’t have to worry about the business and promotion aspect of mma. I do think the core fan base of mma doesn’t care about what language fighters speak but the core fan base might not be enough to keep big time mma floating.

its hard to give press to a guy who cant speak for himself and can’t sell himself. Fedor is great and Anderson is great but guys such as Lesnar and Tito will always out sell them because they are marketable and controversial. Anderson Silva name is always coming out of Dana whites mouth. the guy has headlined many PPVS but still cant sell more than 300K+ ppvs. im just saying if he had more of a connection with the people maybe the people would buy into him.

Well, I guess Patrick Cote is worth about a loss of 25k buys on a PPV.

Give Silva someone good to fight and better fights on the card would sell more. I bet Silva vs Liddell would do alot more than 300k

Yes, that’s true. Of course, that has more to do with Liddell than it does Silva.

Absolutely, but I do believe that guys like Cote hurt his popularity. If Anderson had the ability to fight bigger names that aren’t huge draws, like Hughes for example, I think it would do 400-450 buys, much more respectable.

ya but again you would have to give some of them buys to Hughes. Chuck liddel or Brock lesnar could fight a can and get over 300K a PPV
