Anderson Silva Begins Boxing Training With Freddie Roach

As if Anderson Silva's opponents needed more reason to worry, Anderson Silva began training with Freddie Roach today. The fact that Roach is becoming more and more involved with MMA is an interesting story in and of itself, but Silva may also be doing this in order to see where he stands for a potential boxing career once he's done with MMA.
On another note, Silva has definitely been tapped for the main event of London in February. They are considering a few possibilities against him, including Chuck. I think the only obstacle to this fight happening is the idea of Liddell vs. Couture for the summer, potentially at UFC 100. I suspect they will pull the trigger on it though, seeing as both men want it.

Dear Mr. Silva:
Please stop learning new martial arts. Your brain will have acquired so much MMA knowledge that the density thereof will create a singularity resulting in a black hole. As much as I enjoy watching you fight, I do not want to be sucked into a vortex of eight limbs. Should you discover the Higgs boson, however, please let us know.

What new martial art are you talking about? I know your joking but you kinda sound stupid too. Boxing is NOT a martial art, and is among the many discipline’s he’s BEEN training for many years. It’s not even like he’s decided to integrate a new art for his arsenal like sambo for instance, he simply just upgraded his boxing coach albeit a fantastic one nonetheless.

“…the term actually refers to any sort of codified combat systems, regardless of origin” Boxing is a martial art.

Yeah, it’s lame and kinda dumb, but it’s factually correct. A martial art is any combat system, so even something like military sniping could be a martial art (given how difficult it is, it damn well should be.) In popular culture, it just refers to generally Asian-born fighting styles. As much as I don’t like pure boxing, it is a martial art.

Couture vs Liddell IV..
Am I the only one who doesn’t care about this fight?

No
I understand the money behind it…but a 4th fight between the two is something I’m not really interested in.

Looks like the UFC are keeping their promises
There were initial grumblings here in the UK when fans thought that the shows over here would be lower grade events without title fights. Both UFC 75 and UFC 80 answered that skepticism, and now it looks like we’ll be treated to either a “superfight” or, perhaps, a genuine MW title fight.
Either way, I’m juiced that I’ll get to see the Spider live in action. I know that Chuck will likely be his opponent and, if so, I hope that Liddell was serious about going back to the drawing board after his loss to Rashad.
Given the stature of the fight, I’m sure that no-one – especially the UFC – wants to see Chuck get tooled in the opening minutes of the first round. I seem to recall Liddell saying he had about another two years in the fight game but a fast TKO or KO loss to Silva might hasten an involuntary retirement.

Freddie Roach goes where the money is. The days of guys like Ibarra (allegedly) screwing fighters is over, now that boxing coaches are starting to realize their sport is dying.

If you repeat it enough times, perhaps it’ll become true.

by that logic...
MMA is dying because of football oooor because of softball
Is boxing in the same boom period as MMA? No…but to say simply because MMA gets higher search traffic than boxing that boxing is dying is not logic…it is misinterpreting data.

Rec'd
Really, after him, B-Hop and Roy Jones, who’s left? I say this assuming we can convince every boxer less than 155 lbs to join the WEC and give the fans the little dudes they’ve wanted for ages.

Kelly Pavlik is money down the road also…the recent lost to Hopkins isn’t a huge setback really.
Hatton hasn’t caught on in the US but he is money overseas
Antonio Margarito…Miguel Cotto….Jermain Taylor hasn’t ducked a hard fight his entire career….Juan Manuel Marquez….Israel Vazquez…Rafael Marquez…Chad Dawson…and so on…and so on…

I dont think they should do Silva vs Liddell, at least not now, in my opinion Liddell would get beat badly, proving he career is basically over, and that would be sort of sad cause he is my favorite fighter. Silva is probably my second favorite fighter, if he wins, it will look nice on his resume but he will have beat a Liddell that is past his prime and has lost three out of his last four fights. If Anderson loses, it would definitely help revive Liddells career, but it would greatly hurt Silva, who until then will have looked almost unbeatable.

There’s no reason to protect Chuck. The most 2 devastating losses of his career, Jardine and Rashad, were both matches designed to give him an easy win. Those are the losses that destroy a career. Who should he fight instead? It has to be a main event level match, his contract makes him millions per fight.

Cosigned. Even if he loses to Silva, Randy-Chuck IV, Chuck-Wandy II, Chuck-Tito III, and all other roman numeral fights are available and all of them could headline a major PPV. If Evans beats Griffin, a Chuck-Forrest has all the perfect story lines to be a MASSIVE fight.
