Quote of the Day: WWE.com Talks UFC 91
For Lesnar, the road to UFC gold proved surprisingly short. Within roughly six months, the former WWE Superstar climbed to the top of the ultimate fighting heap, capping his ascent with the upset victory over Couture.-- WWE.com.
Critics have noted that many of the fights on the UFC pay-per-view ended in the first round, leaving UFC producers scrambling to fill the three-hour event with content. The dearth of hearty competition left many viewers to watch less prestigious under-card fights and only served to bolster claims that UFC pay-per-view events can often be a "crap shoot" in regards to filling the full three hours.
For his part, Lesnar took the encouragment of the WWE Universe and the hard lessons forged during his fiery time at WWE and showed UFC and the world why he is not only a man of mettle but also a former three-time WWE Champion.

wow, insanity… I guess they’ve been scripting hour long matches so much they forgot that people actually like to see fights get finished. Well, good for them. Let them keep their fans, and we MMA fans can enjoy the hell of a good show that last night was. I was quite happy to see all the fights, and undercard fights, and most very exciting.
And to anyone who thought watching those undercard fights was a bad thing — g’way.

i agree, most fights were exciting, and i was expecting the undercard to be weak but the guys pulled it off and gave us more action packed fights.. how the hell is more fights being shown a bad thing??
who would prefer to watch 4 fights all going to the distance right? hahaha.

They make it sound like the UFC had troubles producing this show. I think most other orgs would have panicked at having so many fights end quick, but the UFC’s production never seemed to falter. I was impressed at how smooth this PPV went.

True,
that was a great card and every fight was enjoyable. I especially liked Hazelett/McCrory.
Hey Myth, can you agree with me now that Randy should have hung em up or stayed in LW?

I never disagreed. I was one of the ones arguing that this wasn’t a test for Brock that people wanted to pretend it was. In short, it was a little old man getting beat up by a much bigger younger man.
And yeah, I love Randy too but reality is what it is.

Completely agree,
it adds a legend to his resume but not when that legend was at the top of his game.

Did you guys find some osteoporosis results or something? That’s conjecture dudes.. Which is not to say it’s not true, but to say that there’s no telling. We’ll see how he looks in his next fight and use that as a barometer to tell whether Brock is that dominant in his progress or Randy needs to grab a sixer of Ensure and post up on the couch.

Some conjecture sure,
but did you see his face? He appears to have suddenly aged 10 years before our very eyes. My point was only that he should not have fought Lesnar at this age. He may do well against LW guys like Silva, Rampage but there was nothing to gain for him in this fight & everything to lose like looking old & not taking a punch

I’m sure his accountant would disagree with your point that there was nothing to gain in this fight.
For Randy, it’s always been about the money. He’s done a good job of making it seem like other stuff, but if you look closely at his career decisions, it’s been about the cash.

myth, I appreciate your desire to inject hyperbole
and flair to your posts regarding Lesnar, but I’m seriously sick of you calling everyone on this board liars if they said Randy would be a great fight and test for Brock.
Take it emotionally, as you usually do, and circuitously defend it using whatever methods you’ve seemingly perfected, but this haughty “You guys are just a bunch of liars trying to pimp your fake-o boy” schtick has definitely worn out its welcome with me. I’m not chesting up, just letting you know that for at least one person, you’ve crossed a line and I’d appreciate if you’d stop doing so.

I like you, I think you’re a nice guy and you generally make well reasoned arguments to back up your points. I don’t always agree with them, and I have a hunch that you and I will never agree on Brock. That said, I never want to be considered like some of the others on this blog (you know who I mean, I’m sure) who try to be as offensive as possible – on the contrary, I don’t want to offend anyone. So, if I have offended you, I apologize.

I appreciate your sincerity, myth.
I wasn’t hunting for an apology, but I’ll accept it in the honest manner in which it was offered. Mostly I’d just like it if we could move on from ascribing motive to each others’ positions and/or statements and continue with our debates in a more reasoned manner.
I thoroughly enjoy sparring with you over Brock, and I hope we can continue to do so in the future, with every bit the energy we’ve provided in the past. Let’s just steer clear of the personal attacks and declerations of motive, that’s all I’m after.
And if I’ve somehow misrepresented you in any of these posts and you’re upset about it, I honestly do apologize. No need for us MMA nerds to start turning on each other.
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

For his part, Lesnar took the encouragment of the WWE Universe and the hard lessons forged during his fiery time at WWE and showed UFC and the world why he is not only a man of mettle but also a former three-time WWE Champion.
He was a 3-time WWE Champion because it was in the script.

Pure comedy? Yes. But the funny thing is, they may be pointing their fans towards the UFC and risking losing them as WWE consumers.

Take a deep breath d00dz
This is a pro wrestling puff piece. It’s in-character, regarding Brock as a former WWE wrestler. It’s actually a pretty major motion by the WWE to even regard the UFC in this manner. It’s like the ESPN coverage, on a smaller scale; it’s being treated as a legit sport (and not a direct alternative) to the WWE— similarly to how they regarded boxing in the 80’s and 90’s. The comment about the crap shoot nature of their cards was a harmless little “but we iz still kooler!!!” remark..

I assure you the “crap-shoot” is Vince talking. His ideas of fighting is Bigger Alpha = Better Alpha. Built for strength always beats technique.
That’s why most their champions either come from bodybuilding backgrounds or are douchebags.

Well of course they aren’t going to totally put over the UFC. They want fans to pick WWE over UFC if they don’t have money for both that month. I mean, MMA people say much harsher things about ProWrestling than vice versa so don’t get your panties in a bunch.

So showing as many fights as possible is a bad thing now? I remember all the events where I wished they’d show the prelim fights. The prelim fights are in no way less prestigious. They are just full of guys who are up and coming. Thats not less prestigious. But I guess the WWE is butt hurt.
And they even go as far as to take some credit for Lesnar’s win. What a joke. That shit is scripted. He was champion because he was a personality people loved and people hated. He was champ because he was a good show man. What a fucking joke

Why you getting butt hurt over the ravings of a 65 year old roid freak with the balls of peppercorns and the fight acumen of a fourth grader?

Most all of them would lose or get hurt from powering out of submissions.
Their not Sakuraba.
Mainstream North American Pro Wrestling these days is comparable to WMAC Masters, but you have to ass kiss to the top instead of being awesome in your own right.

Obviously this article is missing many facts.
Lesnar was the WWE champion because it was written that way.
Seeing all the fights on the card increases the value of the PPV and the fans love it!

All that I want to know is
can we get Rome to retract his statements about Lesnar flipping out when he sees his own blood & about Randy’s superior striking being the difference maker. Yest Lesnar is huge, blah blah. But Randy took this fight & is in the heavyweight division so that cannot even be an excuse. Like I said, the only chance Randy had was to take Lesnar deep into the fight & get him exhausted. I love Randy but he looked like a mummy almost. Was it just me or did his face look like he has been smoking for 40 years? Do not get me wrong, I love Randy & he is my favorite fighter other than Liddell. But like the Iceman, he should have hung em up
