Coach Says Kurt Pellegrino vs. Clay Guida Set for January
Fronted by Chris Nelson. As mythbuster points out in the comments, there was also a rumor that Guida would fight Nate Diaz at the TUF 8 finale in December.
So it looks like "The Carpenter" and "Batman" will be squaring off, according to strength and conditioning coach Kevin Kearns:
I also went down to NJ to work with Kurt Pellegrino on Burn with Kearns Phase 1 for his fight in January against Clay Guida.
The entire interview is here via mmatraining.com.
Pellegrino will need all the conditioning possible, because he has occasionally gotten tired and therefore sloppy (see: Nate Diaz, though Diaz also has exceptional BJJ, compared to Guida's decent GnP). His last stoppage victory was against Alberto Crane.
Guida is the extremely popular LW who can't seen to finish fights. He has shown good defense against BJJ in his win over Mac Danzig, to where Danzig wouldn't let it go to the ground. He has successfully finished only two fights in nearly 3 years, but everyone knows he can go all three rounds without tiring. If he's smart, he has been working on his striking.
I personally see Guida outworking Pellegrino to an exciting decision (as usual) because he never stops attacking (one would think an opponent would have figured out how to counter his obvious gameplan). However, Batman did decision Thiago Tavares, so if his gastank is good enough, I could see him squeaking out the win. He'll have to work for it, though.

I would have preferred to see Huerta vs. Pellegrino but this is an excellent matchup nonetheless. Pellegrino has the potential to get into the “who gets mauled by BJ Penn” section of the LW division if he can string some good wins together.
Guida has an amazing gas tank but I think Pellegrino will beat him easily.

Still concise, but far more informative title than mine – it implies UFC brass haven’t officially stated it yet, but that the source is accurate.
War Guida, etc, etc.
