Jim Rome Talks EliteXC on ESPN
Just Internet hysteria, eh? Just mindless bloggers doing their best to drum up page views, huh? This couldn't be something anyone with a mammalian brain could obviously see as troubling, right?
Please.

Jim Rome is a clown. He has nothing orginal to say and everything he gets is from other bloggers and sites. He reads profootballtalk daily and his comments on Reggie Bush proved that. He also reads other MMA blogs you can see that through his Elite XC and every MMA diatribe Jimmy goes on. The man wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for his father.
I wish bloggers would not and try to create news or spin things in a certain direction, just report and have an opinion. That’s all we ask as fans of the sport, it’s not your duty to try and have commissions look at every organization for shortcomings and stupid words spoken by their talent.

Having an opinion is spinning things. Give it a rest. We have a variety of takes on MMA here—I tend to believe any major competition to the UFC is doomed to fail, whereas Kid Nate believes or at least believed that co-promotion is inevitable in MMA. Bashing people for having a general outlook on a blog is utterly retarded.
And he grew his whole audience to massive levels without anyone’s help.

Yeah, this is a pretty terrible argument, but you’re welcome to it.

All I want is diversity in the sport and that’ll never happy with one company in control of a single sport. This isn’t the NFL where there are 32 teams and and 53 players on each team. The Sport of MMA has to many great fighers to be relegated to one single ORG and i’m sick of any up and coming organization being shot down in every blogger site of supposed MMA fans.
I’ve heard the same shit over and over about Strikeforce when they started, now they’re getting respect for putting on good shows but things didn’t start out great for them. How can we expect any MMA organization get off the ground if everyone is trying to compare them to UFC from the git go?

First, the “too many fighters for a single organization” argument doesn’t hold water. Football, baseball, hockey, basketball, all have a set number of teams with a set number of players. Zuffa and Zuffa-affiliated organizations can grow as big as they possibly want, there are no limits on how many fighters can fight under the UFC banner, or WEC, or any other organization for that matter. In fact, the UFC currently holds a much higher percentage of the top-level fighter population right now than only two years ago.
Second, Strikeforce never tried to be a top level organization right off the bat, and when they entered the market, there were huge opportunities for organizations like it. Right now there are still opportunities for the b-level organizations, but competing for top-level fighters and recognition is a fools game.

The point was and a simple fact, ONE MMA company can’t showcase all the talent there is to offer in the sport of MMA. If no one can see this, I feel sorry for fans of a sport they think they love. How many events can UFC put on in a year? 18 to 20 at most? My point while bringing up other Pro sports was there is a system of teams and leagues. The NFL/MLB/NBA/NCAA isn’t a 1 vs 1 sport,, It’s filled with thousands of players who face each other every year and week in and week out. The sport of MMA isn’t that way.
This is why we need several leagues in this sport. There is too many talented fighters to showcase in one organization.
BTW I will be at UWC this weekend and will support my local MMA affiliates and my boy Shurron.

At this time they can’t, but who is to say one org can’t grow to that size if it so chooses?
by Richard Wade on Oct 8, 2008 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
As Richard says, you are begging the point. There is no reason Zuffa-affiliated organizations couldn’t put on 100 shows at all levels around the world. The only thing stopping them right now is how long it takes them to grow.
Or do you think Zuffa has been holding 18-20 shows a year since the dawn of time? Five years ago they had about 5 shows a year. This year, UFC and WEC between them will have about 25 events. Five years from now, no reason they can’t have many, many more.

For some reason I’m surprised all over again when this flawed argument is used. In my mind the primary benefit of competition to a consumer is the development of the best product, or products, possible. What you’re advocating is competition for competition’s sake. There are many examples of ProElite engaging in activity that’s not fitting of an organization with such a prominent place. Fightlinker has a list. That’s really not the point here. If EXC is willing to tamper heavily in fights, their product isn’t worth the investment of fans. Fans shouldn’t accept this type of organization if they’re misrepresenting their product in this way. In other words, deeming the Petruzelli situation as nothing more than a guy who misspoke without demanding answers to the mounting contradictions is equivalent to accepting a shitty product just so there is more than one major player in MMA. This totally defeats the purpose of competition. Furthermore, allowing unethical and possibly illegal behavior to happen unchallenged will do more damage to the sport you claim to be a fan of than any amount of domination by a single promotion. Corruption should not be accepted. It will only lead to distrust, and ultimately irreparable damage to the entirety of MMA.

There is no proof about this other than one individual in Seth Petruzelli speaking out of his ass when he was drunk.
It’s one thing to hate Kimbo and Elite XC for their hype of him, but it’s another to totally disrespect every other single fighter who’s competed in that ORG.and that’s what everyone is doing here. If you don’t realize that then please look at your comments..
When you mention something as a whole you are throwing everyone under that bus, does that mean every Elite XC fight was suspect?

It is possible to separate the organization and the fighters, and nobody has accused fighters like Radach or Lawler or Shields of impropriety. If you can’t separate the organization from the fighters, maybe you aren’t qualified to discuss this.

Words mean nothing, but it’s obvious you’ve never trained or fought in this sport. That’s what I love about these sites.
by KneesnBows on Oct 9, 2008 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wait a second, you have to have trained or fought in the sport to talk about business and legal matters? Are you an idiot, or do you just play one on the internet?
I think you’re just trying to dig your way out of the hole you dug. Take your foot out of your mouth, man up, and walk out with a little bit of dignity.

This thread has the look of one that may need to disappear if things keep going the way they are now.

That said, I fully agree with you on all points.
by Richard Wade on Oct 9, 2008 4:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You couldn’t be more wrong. If you’ve followed anything I’ve said, you’d know that I have nothing against the fighters, and praised them for the quality of the show that was put on Saturday. I don’t have a problem with Kimbo at all. I’m a fan of several of their fighters. They deserve a promotion that makes decisions that help the sport grow. I know what I said, and I’ve only expressed disdain for ProElite and EXC’s management. Your argument is totally flawed, so you have decided to make attacks about what you perceive me to believe. Once again, the truth about what happened isn’t known, but it should be looked for.

I would like to see Jim Rome get beat up by anybody. I wonder if Gina Carano would do it for a huge purse. He is such a douchelord.

“This couldn’t be something anyone with a mammalian brain could obviously see as troubling, right?”
And how would that relate to Jim Rome, exactly? :-)
Too late to fix it now, but that title typo propagated into a permalink booboo. Oh well.
