Quote of the Day: Dave Meltzer on Seth Petruzelli's Comments
Fronted by Luke Thomas.
"I will also say, the story he said, I had heard that story long before Seth Petruzelli said it. I believe it to be true, I cannot tell you that is fact. I got nothing against standup fighting, obviously. You wanna do standup fighting, go kick box, there is a sport for you. If you don’t want to still kick, then go box. If you wanna do MMA, then you need to be able to deal with wrestling…. When Tommy Morrison did “MMA” a couple years ago, his opponent was told no takedowns….Those are the rules…Wait a minute, this is boxing…it obvious the guys a real boxer….then why don’t they just box…"
--Dave Meltzer comments in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio about Seth Petruzelli comments and if you are involved with Mixed Martial Arts, then you have deal with boxing, kickboxing, BJJ, wrestling, etc. And, he also endorses that the Athletic Commission look into this.

I really do not want to curse,
but this f-ing pisses me off even more the longer it goes on. As a kid growing up I heard stories about boxing fights that were supposedly “fixed” but had always believed my MMA was a pure, true combat sport with no interference other than a ref for safety.

I don’t know what to believe here. Fixed or not, Seth probably shot him self in the foot by running off at the mouth. He was going to get enough attention by being the man who derailed the poster boy of EXC. Maybe he’s trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame into 30 minutes by causing a controversey. Maybe he’s telling the truth. Or maybe this too is a scheme by $kala to keep attention on EXC. Who knows. At this point, i’m fed up…It’s time for EXC to go the way of the dinosaur.

This is interesting,
yet not suprising..It is far from shocking that $kala and Lappan would do whatever it takes to protect their investment. I really hope that this is not the case. If true, this basically makes MMA look more like WWE. It is probably safe to say that there this is not the first questionable incident in MMA, or any combat sport for that matter. Allegations of fight fixing have surfaced in combat sports throughout history. The idea of “worked” fights in Pride and Pancrase, and boxing are nothing new. No matter what, there will always be temptation to fix fights as long as there are people betting on them…

I think in the very least, the AC should do some investigation, if not a full blown one. Doing nothing, only makes it look more suspicious.

Agreed.
Overlooking Seth’s original statement is not a viable option. Detractors of MMA will only use this as fodder to discredit the sport. No one who enjoys MMA wants to see the sport perverted and be cast aside due to perceived fixing.
