Did anyone see jared shaw in the background yelling at the ref that kimbo was getting hit in the back of the head?

by TannerMatthews on Oct 4, 2008 11:46 PM EDT reply actions

I just saw that in another youtube video. lololololol

The ref was like, “That’s not how we do things around here, biyotch!”

by IHateMMA on Oct 4, 2008 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Dude, that was a jab. barely a jab. wow.

by pud333 on Oct 4, 2008 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

a JAB…. ON ONE FOOT BACKING UP!

by mmalogic on Oct 5, 2008 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Finally exposed

Seth at light heavyweight…..205. Knocks down Slice with a jab…..then with a few power shots, half of which missed put Slice in doo doo land. Cant beleive Skala complaining about the stoppage. Kimbo had NO CLUE where he was, grabbing refs legs for another 5-10 seconds after fight.

Finally exposed Kimbo for what he is. An average light heavyweight with decent striking skills embarrassed him. Pummeling 45 years Mercer and Tank and tap before he was hit Cantrell gave Slice along with some the facade that Kimbo was a good fighter.

by fightfan on Oct 5, 2008 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I am confused.

First, what the hell was Kimbo going for? A take down? Was he ducking a punch?
And B) How powerful is Seth to be able to KO a guy with a quick right jab/hook with his right foot off the ground and moving backward?

"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"

You don’t need to get hit all that hard if you get hit in the wrong spot.

by Richard Wade on Oct 6, 2008 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions

I'll be the one to say it

The hammer fist to the back of the head may have been somewhat… damaging.

by mythbuster on Oct 4, 2008 11:54 PM EDT reply actions

yeah but its still in bad taste for your VP to being such blatant favoritism.

by TannerMatthews on Oct 4, 2008 11:55 PM EDT up reply actions

sorry should have been “your vp to be showing such blatant favoritism”

by TannerMatthews on Oct 4, 2008 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s more damaging to the company than the win.

by IHateMMA on Oct 4, 2008 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree 100% because it makes everything shady concerning Kimbo even if there isn’t anything shady going on.

by dedstrk911 on Oct 4, 2008 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s unbelieveable is what it is. Good by gravy train.

by dedstrk911 on Oct 4, 2008 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Understood

I’m referring to the strike itself, not the Shaws reaction :)

I mean, after watching the replay on my DVR several times, in slo-mo, it’s pretty clear that the hammer fist to the back of the head was what hurt Kimbo.

by mythbuster on Oct 5, 2008 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

I know

Don’t let your hatred of Kimbo make more of an issue than exists. I’m just here to spread the good word.

I’m saying, its pretty clear he didn’t get KTFO from a jab.

by mythbuster on Oct 5, 2008 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t hate the guy. lol

And it’s true…That jab wasn’t the KO punch.

by IHateMMA on Oct 5, 2008 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions

He got dropped on all fours by a jab, and was just the beginning of the inevitable

by fightfan on Oct 5, 2008 12:40 AM EDT up reply actions

...he got dropped by the jab

I don’t know what fight you watched but its pretty clear that the hammer came much later and did NO significant damage. The jab dropped him and Seth finished him with a barrage of punches from all over. You can clearly see he was bloodied around his left eye once the ref stopped the fight.

by flyingknees on Oct 5, 2008 1:46 AM EDT up reply actions

You should probably read what I wrote before replying.

by mythbuster on Oct 5, 2008 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions

He was already dropped.

He also didn’t cover up, or defend at all. Have no idea if it was the jab or not, but the hammerfist didnt do anything special.

by Slica on Oct 5, 2008 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions

These GIFs dont show it

but you will probably think otherwise when you see the slo-mo from the other angles. He goes down (slip or stun, whatever) and is getting back up, big and slow for sure, but the hammer fist lands and he clearly just stops. Then the rest of the bunches of punches finish him off.

by mythbuster on Oct 5, 2008 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

You cant be serious that a big striker(Slice) was knocked out of it by a hammer fist???? There are at least a few of those type in EVERY fight, mostly accidental or unintentional.

by fightfan on Oct 5, 2008 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions

It’s about location and timing.

He got put down by a jab to the chin. He didn’t slip, it wasn’t overly powerful that knocked him over (like the way Radach was knocking around Ninja) he just got hit on the right spot.

He went out, it’s obvious. He was out and flat on his back, he got hit a few more times and woke up.

by Phildo on Oct 5, 2008 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I’d like to see a closer replay, but the hammer fist looked like the top of the head, not the back. At least to me…

by EnsignFrog on Oct 5, 2008 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

After Kimbo went down, the first shot hit him on the top of the head, then he got hit in the back of the head, but I don’t think it did that much damage. Next he started getting hit in the side and that’s when the damage started and he got put on his back and was out.

After that it was a reign of punches/hammerfists that woke him back up.

by Phildo on Oct 5, 2008 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions

Kimbo has no “slice”

R.I.P. Kimbo Slice

by Pitbull on Oct 5, 2008 12:24 AM EDT reply actions

Honestly… he wanted to fight anyone. He fought a LW on the undercard. You see the results. He was a joke. Everyone with half a brain knew that this would happen to him. I would hate to see him fight someone who is actually his size. He was talking about fighting boxers a while ago, they are liable to kill him with a left jab much less a good right cross.

by Zocalo on Oct 5, 2008 12:41 AM EDT reply actions

FUN TIMES!!!

HC MMA fans, take a chill pill. Great fights and a funny fluke of a main card. Life goes on. Kimbo’s freight train will continue. Andrei and Fedor are the biggest winners here.

by Jaydoggydog on Oct 5, 2008 12:42 AM EDT reply actions

FLUKE?

You need a reality check bro. Accept the fact that Kimbos a no-talent bum. He is not a MMA fighter. Never was, never will be.

I can’t imagine what would have happened had Arlovski taken Kimbo on. Kimbo would have left in a bodybag.

by flyingknees on Oct 5, 2008 1:40 AM EDT up reply actions

I would say

The not touching gloves stuff aside, the one thing Kimbo does to rub me the wrong way is his attitude. Not the ‘im a badass’ attitude, as thats commonplace…but simply put…he looks like he doesn’t care. Like he doesn’t take it seriously. I dont think he realizes that he may not get another shot or opportunity like he had when he got hyped up in the first place. He could of taken advantage of the training, the opportunity, and exposure.

Since he didn’t take it seriously (as something more than simply beating people up), the chances are good that he is officially a ‘has been’, and it might be a hard pill to swallow when you realize noone cares about marketing you anymore, or cares in general. Suddenly these rich guys aren’t your friendd anymore.

Instead of a career he made it a gig. Laugh and the world laughs with you…weep, and you weep alone.

by Slica on Oct 5, 2008 2:20 AM EDT up reply actions

I hope that makes sense.

Particularly the line I stole from the great movie, ‘Oldboy’.

by Slica on Oct 5, 2008 2:21 AM EDT up reply actions

agreed

"instead of a career he made it a gig. "… you said it well. The WWE would be a better fit for him…

by flyingknees on Oct 5, 2008 3:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Got to feel kind of bad for Kimbo. And at least give him a little respect, guys, he could have ducked the fight. He was going in against someone he didn’t know, on short notice. Of course he was going to lose; Seth isn’t the best fighter out there, but he’s more talented than all the people that Kimbo has fought so far, younger, and more explosive. If Kimbo hadn’t fought, we’d be calling him a coward right now. I have to believe he went out there for the fans sake. No way is this the last we’ve seen of him. If this wasn’t EXC’s last hurrah, they are going to get their moneys worth out of Kimbo slice, even if they have to demote him to undercard status.

by Cmad77 on Oct 5, 2008 6:19 AM EDT reply actions

What is up with Kimbo's Chest hair

He has hair on only one side of his chest. It’s all fuzzy looking, I just what to rub it lol.

by The_Vig on Oct 5, 2008 8:41 AM EDT reply actions

He has a tattoo on the other side he’s trying to show off, but he doesn’t seem to realize it’s almost impossible to see on TV.

by EnsignFrog on Oct 5, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Kimbo is p!ssed at EliteXC right now

He made clear he was grudgingly accepting this last minute opponent, and now that the worst case scenario has come to pass.

That said, all the scouting in the world wouldn’t have helped him slip that jab. Kimbo was way over-rated.

I enjoy the use of past-tense here.

That said, I think Kimbo is still way over-rated, but that’s probably not going to change.

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Watch the video

I’m not a big Kimbo fan but it’s hard to ignore the replays of the fight. I do think the jab stunned him and knocked him DOWN, but NO out. (I’m sure his beard has been hit harder than that..unfair advantage??..kidding)

He clearly had enough function to put his hands down to catch his fall. Watch the slow mo replays. He starts getting up quick (what his hands and his right foot), then comes the hammer blow to the back of the head and he freezes. For those of you who say you did not see it, watch the replays again because they show it from 2 different angles. The one from above where you can clearly see it.

I don’t think the subsequent blows to the top of the head were of any consequence after that.

For those who say that that blow to the back of the head was nothing?… It doesn’t take much. Why do you think there are rules against it? Maybe if I hit him in the back of the head it wouldn’t do much but his opponent’s most wild misdirected punch is probably stronger than the average person… but I digress.

Bottom line: There was a clear blow to the back of the head. The video shows that he was getting up. Or maybe it was just the adrenaline talking. Kinda sucks that the ref did not stop it after that. If he did we might still be posting something about popularity and favoritism with the ref for Kimbo :-)

BTW… I didn’t see him get kicked in the boys at all Looks like the foot just went between his legs. (Maybe a tap but I think it was inconsequential)
