Ken Shamrock Injured, "EliteXC: Heat" Main Event Cancelled?
Props to MMARated:
MMARated.com has learned that Ken Shamrock sustained a cut above his eye in the last 24 hours while training and WILL NOT be fighting in tonight's main event bout against Kimbo Slice.Update via MMARated:
EliteXC officials are scrambling to find a last minute replacement for Shamrock. We have heard that Frank Shamrock - who is calling the fight for CBS - offered to step in at the last minute but is ultimately not fighting. EliteXC has offered Slice Seth Petruzelli (pictured right) - who was scheduled to fight Aaron Rosa tonight. As of right now, Kimbo has yet to officially accept the fight.
We are now hearing that EliteXC officials may have found a doctor who may clear Shamrock tonight after all. EliteXC may be on the verge of dodging a bullet of epic proportions.Update via MMARated:
They skipped the Petruzelli vs. Rosa fight. This might mean that Petruzelli is replacing Shamrock after all.Update via MMARated:
Ken Shamrock has left the arena. He is not fighting tonight.

What about Roy Nelson or Arlovski as a replacement. LOL.

The problem is right now anyone willing to take the kimbo fight has a good chance of winning :)

Good for EliteXC and trying to scheduole circus shows
How ironic is that?? They tried so hard to give Kimbo the best recognized name with the LEAST chance of making it through 60 seconds and it backfires…..
Now Kimbo, oh sorry, HIS MANAGERS will not let him fight someone with a chance of beating him. Because as of now, most of the people stepping up are probably ones who will most likely beat him.
Hell Seth would probably beat him. At least Seth is not ancient and still is active and haas some striking skills. With that being said…..EliteXC is probably calling Butterbean, Dan Severn, and mayeb even Tank again for a payday they will never see again.
Great news!! LOL

Oops.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

Thank God.
A cut is way better than a concussion.
I thought Shamrock had a chance to beat him moreso than the average guy, but for his health sake…why risk it?
This should be interesting. Not replacing him will be a HUGE botch for the company.
I love this. What goes around, comes around.

Kimbo...
is in a really hard spot now. He either accepts a fight that he has a very legit chance of losing…or he looks like an absolute chump who doesn’t really have an “anyone, anywhere” mentality.

at this point it’s very late in the game…
All those who excused elite for putting on this circus because of their financial situation should now excuse Kimbo for declining a fight that will put his financial situation in jeapordy.
Kimbo will fight only guaranteed wins until his contract is up or he is offered a real payday.

True
No offense to Seth. But Kimbo refusing ANY fight just shows his true colors. Elitexc got their main event status…..Any other Main event fighter, in any other organization would fight WHOEVER they offered.
The main event…As soon as the Seth fight was offered he should of agrees before they even finished teh sentece. Or agreed to fight ANYONE…..Being EliteXC, you know they are going to try and get someone of Butterbean’s caliber or Dan Severn’s age….No disrespect to either of them(Dan or Bean). YOu just know they would search for the oldest, least dangerous, most out of shape guy with somewhat of a name.

“Any other Main event fighter, in any other organization would fight WHOEVER they offered.”
This isn’t true at all, and it shouldn’t be expected for a fighter to accept anybody on HOURS notice.

Yeah, you might be right
Severn even now, what 53?? would prolly be able to decision him
by fightfan on Oct 4, 2008 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
…and the EXC heads have to be crapping themselves, because they know that any of these other guys can beat him. Beating them doesn’t do much in terms of credibility, while losing would be a catastrophe.

I Don't Feel Bad For Him
SO he doesn’t have the skills to back up his talk – I know that, most people know that, it’s about time he learns that. Look how much Leben improved after Silva – shouldn’t Kimbo have that opportunity to grow?

The reward, however, could be decent.
What if he beats the replacement? In boxing, beating a guy who has a days notice is not impressive whatsoever, but in MMA it could actually be a little helpful….‘Kimbo Adapts’.
Not only that, but it opens the door for Kimbo-Shamrock for down the road…as they have an excuse for a second ‘scrub’ fight instead of putting him in legit competition. At least it delays the inevitable of him facing guys who have more than a chance.
I think the risk is well worth the possible reward. They have an excuse should he lose. Some wont buy it, but there are enough simpletons out there to believe he lost because he simply got ‘caught offguard’. A win, however, makes him look good and gives him another shot with Shamrock down the road. Better than cancelling the main event when your company isn’t exactly in great financial standing.

Late night sparring, with elbows and no head gear the night before fight??? Definitely want to ehar how this happened, or the excuse he will use

It’s good that this fight DID NOT happen.
by IHateMMA on Oct 4, 2008 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’d say less of a conspiracy theory than a logical conclusion. This is patently ridiculous and only poor delusional Ken could think that anyone would truly believe he was training hard/sparring on the day of the fight.

You had to know something like this was gonna happen with Elitexc freahshow matchmaking
And someone said it above….a cut is worse than a concussion, or even worse a serious brain injury.
I wouldnt put it past Shamrock to of walked into a wall to cut himself. he knew he was going to get KO’d aned badly. Especially after the little shoving incident yesterday.
Who knows.

If this dude can accept street fights with no prior knowledge
then he can take this. Time for Kimbo to put up or shut up.
He should be thankful that he can still fight (and that this dude had the balls to accept the matchup) and take his lumps like a man. Or knock fool the fuck out.
by subo on Oct 4, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I should clarify...
what I said earlier was that this is a bad situation for Kimbo and his reputation of “anyone, anywhere” I don’t necessarily think Kimbo should “have to” accept the fight. But it will hurt his “character” and “mystique” to look like if he couldn’t have an old, rather not so dangerous opponent he wanted no part of a fight.

IMO, all he's got is the 'mystique' and 'aura'
which, as Curt Schilling said when asked about pitching against the New York Yankees in the World Series at Yankee Stadium, said ‘those are dancer’s names’.

Elite XC continues to put themselves into bad situations…
What do they expect after hyping and falsely inflating a fighters true equity.
Everyone knows once he loses it will bite them in the ass but now that they have done this Kimbo’s management will in no way accept a fight that he has any chance of losing unless he gets paid top dollar.

Must of found the same doctor that cleared Thompson to fight
He let Thompson fight with a tennis ball size lump of blood and puss growing out his ear……why not let him fight with a gash on his face?
LOL
Wonder what a new viewer or fan of mma thinks of this and Kimbo. Last time with the growth of James’ ear and now, if he is cleared, old ass Shamrock with a gash on his face??

Just like anything....If you look for one you will find one
As with injury lawyers, junkies looking for doctors to give out pills, or whatever……If you look hard enough you will find a doctor that will tell you what you want to hear. I thought it had to be approved by the athletic commission’s doctor’s????
I think that Elite is trying to contol the amount of damage….and lead people to beleive that the fight still may happen, in order to prevent people from not tuning in
by fightfan on Oct 4, 2008 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Seth Petruzelli took Matt Hammil to decision, which is probably somehow more impressive than anything Kimbo's done.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

How do you find a doctor to clear you???

by mmalogic on Oct 4, 2008 7:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It's actually common...
just not on such short notice. You are welcome to seek a second doctor’s opinion to clear you for a fight. It is to prevent a doctor with an “ulterior motive” from preventing a fighter from fighting based on a single opinion.

That could be possible, huh?
They could always turn it into some kind of storyline throughout the evening to keep viewers curious and interested. Will Shamrock fight? Will there be a replacement? Blah blah blah…
Then again, that would risk a major backlash if they played with the viewers only to have ‘Cletus McClusterfuck’ come out instead of Shamrock. Chances are, even if they found a replacement, the name wouldn’t be recognizable to the average fan.
by Slica on Oct 4, 2008 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If they can actually find a man by that name to fight Ferguson, I’ll tune in.

If they pull that shit, Shamrock better fight, otherwise they are going to have a bunch of pissed off people that paid for commercials at the end of the show.
The second that Kimbo vs anyone not named Shamrock starts, millions of TVs will switch to baseball, college football, or America’s most Wanted or whatever the fuck else is on, and there are going to be some very pissed off advertisers.

Dang, Chair shot?
Ken even loses AGAIN? Did he kick a chair at a post weigh in that hit himself in the face. I can just see Tito showing up with a T-Shirt that says Ken is a Chair’s Bitch.
All the practice as a pro wrestler I would think Ken would know how to take a proper dive and chair shot by now.
Can’t wait for tonight’s Circus, 20 years ago I begged my parents to take me to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Now days, I get to stay up late and watch the Shamrock Bros and Ken and Kimbo Circus. That failed attempt at a joke out of the way I’ll probably go to bed after watching the prelim fights I want to see.

Question
Have they made any announcement about skipping the Petrozelli fight?
I’m asking here because I don’t want to click on the PBP thread in case nothing happens and they end up showing a replay.

This is something mildly interesting from Sherdog:
Sherdog.com has confirmed that Aaron Rosa, who was scheduled to fight Seth Petruzelli on the undercard, was offered to EliteXC as a replacement. Rosa was turned down by the promotion, but rumors inside the BankAtlantic Center have since suggested that Petruzelli could replace Shamrock if Shamrock cannot fight.
So, they’ve already turned down Rosa.
