I understand that this fight has all the potential of being a boring fight, but look what Maynard/Clementi provided us at the last UFC televised portion of the event.
Unfortunately, Okami is on the MW contender list whether we like it or not. His fights need to be televised, especially if he gets through his next two opponents and the UFC needs his previous footage to hype us his title shot.
The footage is there whether it is main card or not. But you are right that they need to have people watching him if for no other reason than for name/face recognition. Perhaps they are letting this slide under the assumption that the performance isn’t one they want associated with a potential champion.
Its not looking to be the most excting fight
On paper it isn’t a particularly exciting fight. Lister bored me to death when he fought in Pride against Ricardo Arona. The only thing I don’t understand about this fight being on the undercard is that if Okami wins he is arguably the next guy to get a shot at Anderson Silva. Actually he should have already fought Anderson but he got hurt so Cote got in by default. Anyways I digress.. How are people, and by people I mean casual fans, supposed to get excited about Anderson Silva fighting a guy who last fought on the undercard?
I would venture a guess that next to no one watches the undercard fights. Hardcore MMA fans do and we already know Okami should be next for Anderson. But the casual fans will be like ’He’s fighting who? Oh…. Really?’
The only thing I can’t think to counter my view is that Okami last fought and beat up Evan Tanner on the main card, but that was ages ago and most people are ‘what have you done lately?’
