COTE was told 3 weeks ago to Scrap bout with Anderson
I found this interesting tidbit over at 411mania

-Patrick Cote was told three weeks ago to get surgery on his knee and to cancel his UFC 90 fight against Anderson Silva.
There was no source for where this information came from, but it's not surprising Cote put it all on the line for the biggest fight of his career. I wouldn't say it was the smartest move with my personal knowledge of Knee problems. No one goes into the fight 100% but your knees are crucial for every aspect of MMA. I wish him the best in his recovery.

I can see why he would do it anyway, as if he got hurt he may have gotten “kayro’d”
but now he has set himself back at least 8 months, which means 8 months with no other fights and no more money. And he didn’t exactly impress in his fight other than hes got a chin.
He had very little chance of winning with a good knee, idk why he would even bother with a bad knee.

Because had he not fought…he would have had the surgery(which cost money) and he wouldn’t have received the monies he got from fighting Anderson…and still would be out for a significant amount of time regardless…it’s that simple.

Sorry friend, but here in the vaunted land of the north, Canuckistan, we do not pay for these surgery things you speak of. I do remember him saying that a few weeks before the fight, he re-injured the knee and went to Montreal to have it looked at and was cleared.

What do you mean?
“do not pay for these surgery things”
You just walk into a Specialists office and say “I need an MRI and anthroscopic surgery.” and there’s no bill?
all you gotta do is...

Yup
Thats how it works in Canada. You see your family doctor, they refer you to a specialist and send for tests, and then you see the specialist. Should the specialist want other info from other tests, he sends you with A peiece of paper to another office and you get them done. They make up a game plan for your surgery, your scheduled and thats it.
Our goverenment has higher taxes to accomodate for such things. When we buy something, there is tax on every dollar. Depending on your province you have 2 different taxes. Governent Sales Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) the two total around 13% on the dollar. So an item that is priced at 1$ will come up to 1.13$ including tax.
If it is medically needed, regardless of why, we do not pay. Check out micheal moore’s SICKO. Even if you dont like the man you will be enlightened as to what he has to say.

I would have done the same thing. Go for it. Its a big payday (including ad money) to fight for a title and he will always have a job as a “former title challenger in the UFC”

No surprise then...
I avoided surgery on my knee for awhile and it ruined my budding sports career. Then again I didnt know much about rehabbing it, so when the doctor told me I would never play baseball or football again should I elect surgery, I took it more seriously. (obviously I would like to punch the doctor now).
Get a 2nd opinion, even a 3rd. But if they all say surgery, do it.
