Pride recomendations?

Admittedly, I am a realitive new comer to MMA having the 1st TUF finally being my introduction. Since then I have thown down my $50 bucks pretty regularly on ppv and like to think I know a little about the current ecosystem. That being said I know almost nothing about the early days. After a guy on this sight stopped short of crowning me KING NOOB, I desided to rectify the situation. Off to Best Buy I went to find copies of the NHB days of the UFC. When I could not find what I was looking for I descided on a Pride FC disc entitled "Armed and Ready" or something like that (Pride 20?). I don't know if I just got lucky or what but WOW!!! Now I am hooked and I need my next fix, any recomendations?

NO ELBOWS?...Really? Oh but you can knee to the head on the ground? Fair trade!

Recent pride, but I don’t think it gets better: Pride 33. It is just stacked with greatness.

If you want to see some of the best fights as opposed to whole cards..

Go to MMARoot.com and just search their highest rated fights. Many of them are PRIDE classics. I re-watch a lot of fights there when I have some downtime..

Personally, I would also recomend Rumble on the Rock. They are pretty good. some pretty important matches and mostly can be found on the internet. See Anderson Silva lose, see Dana White kiss BJ’s ass, see BJ absolutly dismantal Gomi. ROTR was pretty great.

Aren't they still alive?

I heard they were not a casualty of the death of Elite, because it was a partnership and not a takeover. Maybe BJ’s brother will start putting on cards again?

That was KOTC…not ROTR I think^

Bushido 9 and Shockwave 2005 are a fun one-two punch. One of the best lightweight tournaments ever and the reason Gomi is a legend.

final conflict 2005 too

that one has the other wanderlei vs arona match plus fedor vs cro cop.

pride 25 body blow is fun too — the first fedor vs big nog match.

I’d go through fedor’s, big nog’s, wanderlei, gomi and sakuraba’s sherdog records and pick out their biggest fights.

It is to bad that FSN doesn’t stiil air the PFC shows. That was a great way to introduce Pride to fans and would still be good to promote fighters now in the UFC.

I love the UFC, but damn, I sure miss Pride.

beery, if you are not watching Dream, do so from now on.

I am now, I guess the ropes instead of cage turned me off before. It looks stupid now that I’ve verbalized it but i guess that was it

rings for fighting have there place, but I don’t care for them. always stopping and reseting. Not for me. But at the end of the day its still a fight and Pride has some great ones. Also, yellow cards are wacky and dumb.

yellow cards??? don’t tell me I want it to be a surprise. I guess that is why I am so hyped about this, can you all imagine watching these fights and not knowing how they are going to turn out!

Yellow cards are the opposite of surprising. They are for when fighters are, or the ref thinks they are, being boring. They take money from the fighters that get them. I know you said don’t tell you, but they are not a big deal. I just think they are dumb.

by szucconi on Oct 30, 2008 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah.

I don’t see how taking away from a fighter’s purse is supposed to be a positive motivation.

I like rings. I also like cages. This is what I like about having Dream or such, it gives you an alternative. Both have their pros and both have cons.

I...

…recently downloaded via torrent 72 GBs (yes, Gigabytes) of PRIDE events. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include the Bushido events so I can’t vouch for any of those. But I would say very few PRIDE cards disappoint. I agree that Body Blow (Fedor vs. Nogueira 1 I believe?) and Critical Countdown 2004 are among the best.

don’t feel bad bro…my first intro to MMA was TUF 1..hooked since. never knew Pride existed until channel surfing and found it on FSN. My DVR still has alot of Pride stuff on it. wish the UFC could incorporate some of their ideas. (ex..more theatrical entrances, no elbows, tournaments, more tournaments). miss it. felt more like MMA and not just a business.
