this will be Diaz’s first real test to see if he’s ready to fight the top tier of the LW division.
As an aside, is Guida now the official gatekeeper of that division? You get through him and you’re for real?

That’s what happens to inconsistent fighters. Sad.

I wanna see Guida lay in Diaz’s guard the whole time.

I think Josh Neer
is a tougher test than Guida.
Diaz should be able to use his reach to batter (pitty pat) Clay standing and use some tasty judo to avoid the Guida takedowns.

and if Diaz gets Clay on his back
it’ll be ugly.

This is certainly an interesting match-up even if it is a step down in competition for Diaz.

Ouch. Either somebody doesn’t like the caveman, or he REALLY likes Josh Neer.

I didn’t say it was an enormous step down. I do think it’s a step down though. A lateral move at best.

Don’t do it Nate! Don’t plan MMA math! Don’t we all know better by now?

I can quit anytime
not addicted to MMAth at all.
I only do it socially, here in the comments. Never alone. Certainly never when I’m depressed.

Guida! Guida! Guida!
Even if he has been relegated to “gatekeeper” he is easily one of my favorite fighters to watch – How will the slow starter Diaz cope with the constant pressure from Guida? I’m pulling for Guida, but it’ll be close either way…

God I hope Nate chokes him to death!
So I never have to watch that one trick poney (guida) fight again. How many times does everybody need to watch Guida fight before they realize that Guida just holds people down — is that fun to watch! FOR CHRIST SAKE! Easily one of the most boring fighters in the world. Yeah… he just comes and comes and comes – but once he gets there, what does he do.

sorry for the semi-rant
In other words: I guess I don’t like guida that much.

I’m not a big Guida fan, but I’m gonna go ahead and say I hope nobody gets choked to death.

I'm with you on thinking he's boring
He’s a nice guy though and I don’t really even root against him (i’ve gotten enough into wrestling that i enjoy watching a good take down battle) but I really don’t see how he’s more entertaining than so many fighters people hate on — Machida, Ortiz, Koscheck, Rashad Evans.
I mean Koscheck and Evans and winning fights with dramatic KO high kicks and Machida’s a completely revolutionary MMA martial artist.

i agree...
It’s a cliche now, but mma is really about the ability to finish a fight or at least deliver damage. Guida doesn’t do that, he literally just holds people down. If you like free style wrestling in mma, then watch kos, sanchez, ortiz. If you like Greco, then watch couture, vera, nate diaz :). But who, in there right mind, wants to watch Guida.

I agree about Guida
In the Danzig fight, he basically clinched Mac up against the fence for the entire round 3. I understand he was winning the fight and all, trying to just secure a win, but goddamn that’s boring. You could almost sympathize with Mac as you look at this frustrated mug.
Diaz got this.

I like both guys
but I predict that Nate beats Guida by submission, and security beats Nick to applause.
