Mirko Cro Cop vs Alistair Overeem Re-Match Set for K-1 Dynamite!

Crocopovereem_medium

Per MMA Junkie:

After struggling against Alistair Overeem (28-11) at the Sept. 26 DREAM 6 event -- only to be saved by a no-contest after being struck with a fight-ending knee to the groin -- former PRIDE and UFC fighter Mirko "Cro Cop" (23-6-2) says the rematch is set for Dec. 31 in Japan.

Filipovic confirmed the rumored K-1 DYNAMITE!! 2008 bout with Croatian site dnevnik.hr.

Filipovic also confirmed that he'll enter the fight with a knee injury and will undergo surgery soon after the event, which is scheduled to feature five MMA bouts and five K1 kickboxing matches.

Overeem by devastation, much the same way the first fight was heading.

Can somebody please help me with the man-crush I seem to be developing??

Seriously, I consider AO to be a true contender against any HW, even Fedor, though i wouold never pick him to beat fedor. I simply think he would give him a good fight.

I think it’s because we are finally seeing what Overeem can do when cardio is less of an issue. Looking at him now, I have no idea how he cut to 205 in the past.

100% agreed. He looks so much more comfortable at HW.

Ya i have no idea how he made that cut back in the day, he looks tremendously strong at HW

I see a brutal knee kick in crocops future

Filipovic has an excuse already

Well i guess that Filipovic will be able to place blame on a knee injury when he is destroyed by AO. Perhaps mid-bout his knee will give out and he will not be able to continue fighting.

My heart is with CC, but my head knows better – if he’s got a knee injury, then I doubt he’ll fire off too many kicks or move as quickly, and Overeem is a monster now. How did CC fall from grace so quickly? OWGP to KTFO in less than a year…

That’s a damn good question.

kick to the head=quick fall.

He came back stronger after Randleman leveled him; besides, he didn’t look good against Eddie Sanchez, and that was before GG.

Randleman or GG? I thought both times the winners decided to overwhelm him because that’s the easiest way to beat him.
If you mean Sanchez, that one was strange – I don’t think he was used to the octagon and couldn’t corner his prey.

Randleman...

A standing guillotine at 41 seconds? I call shenanigans.

I was referring to their 2004 HWGP match.

Age is not kind

He is old and there is a lot of tape on him. Much like Liddell, younger fighters have many advantages over these older fighters. There is a ton of tape to watch and help younger fighters prepare a fight plan against the legends of the sport. In the case of Filipovic I get the sense that it his mental game that is starting to betray him.

i hate being so lame that i have to ask…what does OWGP mean? my heart’s with CC also, but his game stopped developing along with Matt Hughes and a the other old guard.

Is it the same knee that he messed up in the gonzaga fight

by drano1 on Oct 29, 2008 4:44 PM EDT reply actions

I’d imagine so, him and Hughes both had the same kind of awkward fall on their knee after getting smashed.

by DirtyML on Oct 29, 2008 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions

didn’t he already get surgery on that knee twice though

by drano1 on Oct 29, 2008 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Crocop has no desire in him to be the best anymore, he is just trying to make money.

Overeem by determination.

You need surgery, then get it. Don’t fight injured then use it as an excuse later. I’m sick of Cro-Cop’s BS ever since he said “Sanchez’s backpeddling and refusing to engage” made it a lackluster performance he has been downhill ever since.

He needs to either revisit his original intentions for fighting or stop pretending like he is in a slump and admit his hunger for fighting is coming to an end.

by DirtyML on Oct 29, 2008 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

I think he probably catches a lot of pressure to continue fighting.

by drano1 on Oct 29, 2008 4:52 PM EDT reply actions

If Crocop was smart, he would do a double cycle of roids to try and catch up to AO

by lbk on Oct 29, 2008 4:57 PM EDT reply actions

Come on now Overeem has looked like that his whole career. But then again it’s cool to wave the roids stick around isnt it?

by Benicio on Oct 29, 2008 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder how many shots to the groin he will take this time??? I’m putting the over under at 1.5, Overeem will dominate just as he did before. And like the other guys said, he will use the knee as an excuse for the loss, so he can get another big check.
