Nathan Diaz Won't Fight Again Until 2009

GracieFighter announces:

Nathan Diaz will have to wait out the next few months for his next fight. A December showdown between himself and Clay Guida never got off the ground due to a reported foot injury Guida sustained in his last bout.

With every viable UFC contender having already been paired for fights in the next couple of months it became clear that Diaz would not have an opponent ready for the rest of 2008. Nothing has been signed as of yet, however we are hoping to see Nathan fight early in 2009. Possibly on the same card as GSP vs. Penn in Las Vegas.

Too bad Nate won't get to throw down with Clay Guida in December. Maybe Clay will be healed up enough to fight at UFC 94. If not, Tyson Griffin might be a good choice. Nate's been calling Griffin out and now that Tyson has just lost to Sherk, he might reconsider his previous position that Nate would be a step backwards for him.

Couldn’t agree more with the assessment of Diaz/Griffin.

I notice Guida at every single MMA event and after party. And the guy always has a drink in his hand. Even if he has a fight coming up.

Some guys just have that kind of metabolism. It’s hard to question how hard he trains or the results (physically speaking).

I’d love to see what would happen if he pursued some serious BJJ training, though.

Nate

I would really like to see Nate vs. Tyson Griffin. It’s to bad that the Carpenter sustained a foot injury, because that would have been a great fight.

Supposedly Guida wasn’t even fighting Diaz, but Kurt Pellegrino, according to KP’s coach, as reported here.
