Give him a fight. That card below the main event blows.

by Michaelthebox on Oct 28, 2008 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah UFC 91 could use another big name fight…. but I doubt it will happen.

Main Card:
-Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar
-Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks
-Joe Stevenson vs. Kenny Florian
-Demian Maia vs. Nathan Quarry
-Amir Sadollah vs. Nick Catone

by Nick Thomas on Oct 28, 2008 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think the TUF 8 finale on December 13th has a main event yet, put Silva in on free tv in December. That should make him and the fans happy and actually give that event a bit of star power (they could also play up the connection with Big Nog being a TUF coach).

by who me on Oct 28, 2008 3:39 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah sure

Just like when Dana said Anderson wanted two belts and then two days later Silva came out and said the opposite… then a couple weeks later announced retirement plans. We’ll see what happens.

by EazyEismydad on Oct 28, 2008 3:56 PM EDT reply actions

it would kick major amounts of a$$...

if they put him on the “fight for the troops” show. against who, i have no idea. maybe vera?

by woooburn on Oct 28, 2008 3:58 PM EDT reply actions

Luiz Cane?

Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

I think there is absolutely

no chance Dana puts Chuck against Silva given his recent fights, especially if Silva is pissed & is not going to dick around. What would the upside be? If he beats Chuck, he was supposed to. If Chuck catches him & KTFO’s him, what happens next? Big draw not withstanding, I do not see any way this fight happens anytime soon.

by dnevil001 on Oct 28, 2008 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

You’re probably right that an A. Silva v. Liddell fight won’t happen soon, but I suspect that it will happen while Anderson is still willing to fight and Chuck hasn’t lost all of his “aura” to the general public. Given the payday a fight like this could be, I’d guess that it might happen around the end of 2009 or early/mid 2010 (though obviously this depends on the respective trajectories of the both fighters).

by Estrada on Oct 28, 2008 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

That could

be the way it goes down. If Dana feels that Silva is getting ready to retire or whatever then maybe he pulls the trigger. But after that article the UFC posted about Silva being the best P4P fighter in the world (which I agree with) if Chuck catches him it cannot be good.

by dnevil001 on Oct 28, 2008 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

It really seems like the type of fight, again assuming neither fighter loses their aura or popularity, that the UFC would like to try and use to garner interest during an upcoming time period. Like how the BJ/GSP fight is keeping up interest in the UFC through the middle of winter.

Chucks on the downhill slide, don’t kid yourself.

by toxic on Oct 28, 2008 4:04 PM EDT reply actions

As much as I love Chuck

I have to agree with you. But he still has those cement block hands & who knows what happens if Silva is super-aggressive & charges in

by dnevil001 on Oct 28, 2008 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

I don’t know why people still talk about Chuck like he’s the monster he used to be. Silva would find every gaping hole Chuck has.

by mythbuster on Oct 28, 2008 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Dana, I don't ask for much

One time, just give us a Silva fight to co-main event UFC 91. ONE TIME!

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

Actually those cement block hands are more like play dough nowadays. Liddell hasn’t finished anyone since 2006.

No he wasn't,

you are right. But I do not think that his power has faded as much as his speed & reaction time has. Not saying he would beat Silva at all, but it is still a definite risk.

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Vera is the Key

Vera is desperate right now. He is coming off 3 out of 4 losses and coming up on a contract renegotiation. He would have no choice but to take it if they asked. I don’t think he would win, but he would put on a good fight for the fans. Vera or Maybe Sokoudjou? that would be interesting.

Or sign fn Arona and feed him to Anderson. that would be a pretty good fight as well.

Okami’s fighting Dean Lister at UFC 92

http://mma4real.net/

by Tha Realness on Oct 28, 2008 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

But if he is healthy & willing

I am sure they would move him from Lister to face Silva

by dnevil001 on Oct 28, 2008 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t even know why there is so much interest in that fight Okami was getting destroyed in the first fight

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I did not see that one,

but is one of the top middleweights

by dnevil001 on Oct 28, 2008 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

The kick that knocked him out didn’t even look like an upkick it looked like he was going for an armbar or something and his foot kinda contacted his face silva looked mad like he couldn’t believe he knocked him out like that but the whole fight Silva was absolutely dominating him

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Because hes the best available middle weight that Silva has not beaten and he has looked pretty damn good over the last year (winning a bunch of fights and nearly tapping Franklin out in their fight).

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess the UFC middlewieght division isn’t exactly stacked

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d like that.

If they do it now, everyone has enough time to train for the fight.

It sucks for Lister, but they can guarantee him a main card fight on the TUF finale or 93 to make up for it, or maybe get him another fight for that night and put it on ufc.com

by Phildo on Oct 29, 2008 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

if Chonan has another flying heel hook highlight in him! Is Okami healthy?

by dnevil001 on Oct 28, 2008 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

seriously though who would he fight it’s a little short notice to move up to 205 you saw all the extra weight training and what not he had to do to fight Irvin

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Anderson walks around at well over 200lbs.

http://mma4real.net/

by Tha Realness on Oct 28, 2008 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Walking around at that weight is different than being prepared to fight at that weight. He has to turn what is usually fat into muscle rather then just losing fat to cut weight.

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

exactly he needs to maintain his speed and agility with an extra 20 ponds on

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

err no. He just won’t have to cut weight. He may have a weight disadvantage though depending on who he fights.

by starvin on Oct 28, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the Anderson Silva is so good right now that we need to put him in suspended animation until the rest of the fighters can improve to his level.

by The_Vig on Oct 28, 2008 4:22 PM EDT reply actions

At least until the middlewieght division can catch up

Anderson Silva Vs. Robbie Lawler in December....

Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

Robbie Lawler since he was training for November would be great. Or if they could move Okami up a month.

by Michael Rome on Oct 28, 2008 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Thought about Lawler, but would he take a fight that would most likely kill his momentum against the best fighter in the world at his weight class on two weeks notice? I wouldn’t if I were him or his manager.

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

What about Jardine?

Did the UFC pick up any notable middle weights in the IFL purchase?

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

He could fight Galvao.

by Blackout612 on Oct 28, 2008 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Jardine would take the fight if hes been training since his last fight (he seems to believe he can beat anyone in the world and probably wouldn’t be afraid to go on short notice against Silva) although his camp is known for great game plans and I don’t know if two weeks is enough time to do the type of training and drills so the fighter can instinctively implement that game plan.

That being said, the crazy monkey style against the Bruce Lee style would make for an interesting matchup.

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Lawler will be tough because he probably won’t be out of the Elite XC mess for another 2 or 3 weeks at minimum. It would suck to get up and train for the fight and then have it not happen, again.

by Phildo on Oct 29, 2008 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions

I say Do It Dana – I wanna see Anderson fight again. That card needs him. I would love to see him fight Brandon Vera. It might be the wakening Brandon needs.

Why not just do a rematch with Marquart or possibly Thales Leites?

by drano1 on Oct 28, 2008 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I really think that anyone that is a legit challenger to his title would want much more than two weeks to prepare, especially since they would want to study the tapes of the Cote fight to figure out if his style really was giving Silva problems. It would need to be either a LH or a MW that wasn’t really in line for a title fight eventually.

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

To be honest I’d love to watch him fight anyone as long as it makes the 91 card.

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah but I just don’t see him fighting anyone at 205 it’s too much weight to put on in a month

Agreed, but you never can tell with Anderson

by Day Man on Oct 28, 2008 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess the UFC just needs to learn to recruit fighters some other way then the Ultimate Fighter then maybe we could see Silva vs. Manhoef or Jacare or Mousasi

I'll fight Anderson Silva for $40 000 BE dollars.

That gets you at a minimum of me looking confused at 20 seconds, getting pummled by oddball combinations at 25 seconds, collapsing to the mat unconscious at 27 seconds, and eating shots untill the ref stops the fun at 30 seconds.

Other acceptable currencies are: Canadian Tire Money, Candy, Guiness, and Bandages.

Well..

According to at least three people who post here, you would only have to land 16% of your strikes and not blow out your knee, and you’d be well on your way to an upset victory.

This would definately make UFC 91 being the biggest ppv of all time more believable. Anderson will have to fight at MW, because putting on so much weight so fast is definately a recipe for destruction…I say bring in Marquardt, after watching his last fight, a rematch with Silva is something I’d really enjoy watching.

It also makes me laugh how if Cote hadn’t injured his knee all the haters would be swooning over how Silva drew out the fight to make Cote look overmatched, then destroyed him in the 4th or 5th round. It was obvious to me that Silva was just drawing out the fight, landing strikes on occasion and showing that Cote stood no chance. Cote never even scratched Silva, and I was drooling just waiting for the KO that was waiting around the 20 minute mark.

But I think if Silva gets to fight on the 15th, we will see a very angry and determined champion who means business. And that my friends, is very, very scary.
