I hope we get to see this one
Fedor vs Arlovski alone is a dream fight.
Lindland vs Babalu is cool.
Mousasi vs Belfort! outrageous.
Vladdy vs Little Nog, long time coming.
Nice to see the IFL guys against Rizzo and Buentello.
You know who would be cool against Sylvia? Alistair Overeem. But he’ll be busy over Xmas.
For all the bashing and rooting for them to fold that alot of people seem to do. You have to give Affliction credit for putting on Absolutely STACKED cards. You’d have to go back to at least UFC 81 to find so many stars on a card. And you can easily argue that both Affliction cards were more stacked than that. As a consumer this is what I look for.

if the ufc only held an event every 6 months or even every 4 months, you would see the most stacked events that you could imagine. think realistically. if Afflicyion has these kind of stacked events every 4 months, i’ll buy them, but how are they going to make any money?
It will be tough to make money as is right now. But if they could put on these kinds of shows and pull in Buy rates close to the 600K that UFC did last weekend. Then they will make a profit. Add on that the exposure it would add to their clothing line. And its possible they could survive. I will admit that it will not be easy. Especially because we can be 100% sure that any event they host will be counter-programed by the UFC.

Okay, sure; however, I don’t think this is the “What if?” game.

Which was the better card in terms of talent. The proposed January Affliction card or UFC 90?

Affliction does, but they dont have the ufc brand behind them. i would be shocked if Afflictiondid over 200k buys for their 2nd show. 600k is really stretching it. i just hope they do have the 2nd event because A.A vs Fedor is a dream match for me.
Talent is a last decider when it comes to purchasing. Brand name, awareness of the show, awareness of the fighters, and excitement from build up to the show, are all bigger components of buyrate than the actual quality of the talent. Each of those tends to be similarly high between UFC shows, so we disregard their effects when considering expected buyrate. However, the UFC generally has enormous advantages in each of those over Affliction and other promotions.

Largely disregard their effects, rather. There do still tend to be significant differences in fighter awareness and buildup to the show. But basically every UFC show has greater fighter awareness and buildup and brand name and awareness of the show than Affliction’s shows.

The first Affliction show did contain a lot of huge names but the match ups weren’t all that. I don’t remember a single fight on the card where there was any doubt about who would win with the exception of Tim Sylvia vs Fedor. Being packed with stars is great but it was really let down by the matchmaking(for me at least).
salary
although I enjoy the fight cards that Affliction puts on, I think that they are over paying their fighters. If they keep this up they will be in the same boat as EliteXC and IFL.I know that the fighters deserve to get paid well ,but Affliction is driving up salaries higher than thay should be.
Affliction
Wonder who the broadcast team will be? wasn’t too impressed with the last show’s production or broadcast team. Get Mauro Ranallo on the play by play and bring “big John” McCarthy back as the commentator…unless he’s officiating that night.
An excellent card. But why isn’t it just Barnett vs Sylvia? Aleksander isn’t gonna be able to fight.

you called it
and I’d like to see Barnett vs Sylvia. I’m curious to see if Josh can handle Sylvia’s reach.
I noticed that Adrenaline MMA wasn’t listed as one of the event partners and that Sylvia and Rothwell were noticably absent from the poster. Are we even sure Monte Cox’s fighters will be there?
