Quote of the Day: Antônio Silva

"There was no appeal. The suspension stays. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. The commission showed that they don't like MMA fighters, mainly Brazilian. Sean Sherk took Nandrolone, it was proved, but they reduced his punishment, but with me they didn’t".-- Antônio Silva.
"The Commission didn’t prove Bigfoot`s fault, there are doubts. But anything proved, and then the facts pass to be unimportant, and the opinion of six or seven commissionaires, who doesn’t understand anything about chemistry, predominate. The commission, although have not proved the facts, continue to keep the suspension".-- Alex Davis, Silva's manager.
Bigfoot won't be eligible to fight again until July 26th 2009.

Pretty interesting..
..that he’d call out Sherk like that after having the CSAC stick it to him the same way. Seems like he might identify with his all-too-similar situation.
He’s crying racism because Sherk got his suspension cut in half while he didn’t.
The difference is that Sherk was able to create real doubt about the way the test was done, plus the tainted supplement. Silva was just arguing tainted supplement, which in my mind is a terrible excuse, and should not be acceptable.
After Sherk they changed the testing process.
Well..
We’re getting way beyond the scope here, but the term would probably be xenophobe, that’s for all foreigners tho. I don’t know if there is a specific one for Brazilians. :)

You mean the fact he was able to take another test from the list of acceptable centers and pass it was a terrible excuse? The fact he has a condition that would be fatal if he took nandrolone?
I am not saying that he was right to call them anti-foreigner but to say he had terrible excuses is not exactly true.
Then perhaps he should be blaming his lawyer. The same lawyer that argued that Sherk’s test couldn’t be trusted due to chain of custody issues showed up and couldn’t show the chain of custody for Silva’s independent test. So who should we believe the lawyer who said that without a proper chain of custody the test can’t be trusted or the same lawyer who later said trust this test even though I can’t show the chain of custody? For that matter did they provide medical proof of his claim that it could be fatal for him? Did he provide proof that he knew that beforehand? This wasn’t a court of law it was a athletic commission appeal it was up to him and his council to prove that he didn’t do it, apparently they didn’t even bring enough proof with them to give their story any credibility which falls on him and his lawyer.
Of course “I took a supplement that says right on the container that it will cause your drug test to come back positive” is a pretty piss poor excuse to start with. Particularly if you can’t even prove you even took it. Fighters are responsible for what they put in their bodies not athletic commissions.
Considering
that his promotion just closed shop, and he is suspended….I see a bright future for the guy in Japan!…
Only if he never wants to fight in the US again, if you are suspended by an athletic commission but still fight somewhere else they most likely will ban you for life.
Vitor Belfort??
Has there been any fighter banned for life because of this? I can’t think of any names, but that doesn’t mean much.

“However, according to Franca, CSAC executive Armando Garcia told Franca that if he competed outside the country during his suspension period that he would never be able to compete in the U.S. again. "

How many fighters have ever broken a suspension like that? Heck even Josh Barnett waited the year even though he went to Japan to fight. I don’t know the full story of what happened with Vitor Belfort but would you want to risk it if you were a fighter?
That’s not the point. of course I wouldn’t, but I also wouldn;t be in that position in the first place.
We all know that the ACs threaten this and greatly work together, but I am sincerely asking if you or anyone else has any name that this has happened to?
Vitor was suspended and fought outside the US, then returned and fought at Affliction. IMO, this greatly reduces the effectiveness of the AC’s threat.

There is something odd about the Vitor Belfort deal and I really find it weird that I can’t find any information on it. being that it was 6 months between his fights I wonder if the reporting of it might of been off or if he had gotten some kind of clearance from NSAC? Vitor was able to prove that is was his doctor’s fault for his drug test too(even though that didn’t clear him from having it in his system). Something is just really odd about his situation.
I don’t know of anyone else who has ever broken a suspension like that, it would be interesting to see if anyone else had pushed it and if any action was taken against them. This is also 2008 CSAC not 2006 NSAC we are talking about here and it was CSAC that flat out told Franca he’d be banned for life. Armando Garcia does seem to be rather tough on these things, particularly with the coverage this case has gotten I could very well see him sticking to his guns here.
