- Josh Burkman came in two pounds over the weight allowance. Presumably he'll have one hour to lose the weight; Joe Rogan (still sporting the Evan Tanner tribute beard) simply announced "he has two pounds to lose" before the staredown went on as usual.
- Intense staredown between the former training partners Franca and Aurelio, with Hermes getting his fist up right under Marcus' jaw.
- A chorus of boos from the Chicago crowd as Sean Sherk stepped on stage. He'll probably have to deal with that for a while to come, if not the rest of his career.
- Kos heard the boos as well, but he took it in stride, cupping his hand to his ear - probably pretty used to that by now. He and Alves had a very respectful staredown, standing a good 1 1/2 feet apart and shaking hands before and after.
- Great face-off between Cote and Silva, who bowed to one another after. Anderson got a huge reaction from the packed house. Cote reiterated to Joe Rogan that he's "ready to shock the world."

Anderson Silva ( ) vs. Patrick Cote ( )
Thiago Alves ( ) vs. Josh Koscheck ( )
etc.
They were weighed in a vacuum.
And yet again...
I am struck stupid by my lack of an attention span. Didn’t read far enough to see that the weigh-ins hadn’t happened yet and was trying to be funny. Sorry, I’ll stfu now.
I almost made the same mistake. Thanks for getting there first.

Weigh ins were on Channel 101
on Direct TV. Since when has this been happening? It was pretty cool seeing the weigh ins on tv. I missed the majority of the weigh ins but caught the main event. Pretty intense staredown. I need a pic/gif of the franca/aurelio one if anyone has!
Also, why was Cote allowed to weigh in at 183? I though there was a 1.5 lb allowance? Shouldn’t he have to gain weight or something?
oh what the hell? how did I not know this?!

I’m pretty sure the weight range goes from 175(?) to 185 for middleweight. It would obviously put a lighter fighter at a disadvantage, but someone could fight at middleweight and come in at 176…this is why most people cut down to a certain weight…they want to have as much mass coming into a fight as possible.
The one pound ‘gimme’ is on the heavier end for non-title fights, but I don’t think there is a tight restriction on the lower end.
Depends...
Weight divisions really only have a limit. Its up to the commission/organization to let a guy who’s “too light” to fight or not.
183 vs 184 is nothing.
I thought each weight class started at one pound higher than the upper limit of the lower weight class. So, Middleweight would be from 171-185.

Oh....
See I always thought fighters were allowed a +-1.5lb from the weight limit. I know the weight class is at 171-185 for MW but I thought that was just for show, basically. I had the idea that fighters had to come in at 185lbs, +-1.5lbs.
It just means
Cote is in awesome shape and ready to shock the world

Kos is a decent heel – he’s not a total dick about it, but he accepts that he’s not well liked and shrugs it off. Sherk, however, seems to be rattled by it. If he tries to entertain the crowd for favor like he did vs. Penn by eschewing his wrestling, he’s officially a wimp (for letting the crowd get to him, that is. He can still kick my ass).

Sherk doesn’t look so big (he is still muscular, though) – has he gotten smaller, or is Griffin that big also?

I stand corrected.
I almost feel bad for him – with that build, he’ll never shake the ’roid rumors

Post Weigh in weight
Obviously, I’m not an expert.
For each of these weight classes, what will these guys weigh when they step in the ring?
Pictures of the 205’s especially show them appearing much heavier before and after fights. Am I imagining this or do they have to lose a lot of weight for weigh in’s?
