I have to get this off my chest...don't hate me!

I'm so sick of hearing about Randy Couture as being one of the greatest fighters ever....He is the most over-rated fighter ever! He has fought 7 time since 2004, going 4-3 in those fights. 16-8 in his career, never in my life have i seen such celebrated mediocrity (besides Greg Focker's 8th place ribbons in Meet the Fockers). Am I the only person in the world who see's this? Don't get me wrong, I'd let Randy babysit my kids but i'm not on his jock thinking he's one of the greatest.

Almost every fight he’s been in has been against the contemporary cream of the crop. His ability to gameplan and strategize, let alone his ability to implement said strategies, against top shelf opponents is a testament to his incredible abilities. He has conquered the mental aspect of fighting like few others in the sport and has shown on multiple occasions that he lacks even an ounce of quit. Even at very advanced age (in terms of combat sports) he continues to innovate and improve. He out boxed Tim Sylvia (who went on to outbox Big Nog), outworked and broke Napao, stopped the Vitor train dead in its tracks, ended Tito, etc., et.c, ad infinitum.

I’m sorry that he doesn’t have the most dominant looking record at first glance, but if you take that to mean that he isn’t the legend many see him to be, that only proves your own ignorance.

He’s celebrated because of his record at his age. He has been amazing the past few fights.

He did look pretty amazing blocking Chuck’s punches with his face…that was sweeeeeet!! Oh and he beat Gonzaga who’s UFC carreer will be over as soon as he loses a few more fights.

Randy has been picked to lose most every fight he’s ever taken part in. He’s won 67% of those fights. He doesn’t take warm up fights. He doesn’t take easy fights. He’s an Icon of the sport, love him or hate him. You can’t judge a fighter by his record. Judge him by his performances in those fights, individually. Records are overrated..

Fedor has an amazing record, it is damn near perfect, his one loss would have been a win had it not been under “tournament rules”. But then you have to look at who he has fought.
Not real impressive!

Saying he is overrated, is not saying that he isn’t great, a legend, whatever.

I agree that he is overrated. Much of his reputation is based on popularity and what he has accomplished at an advanced age.

He is still a great fighter, a legend, a HOFer, an icon and so on. He has played the role of David very well, the consummate underdog.

Remember, it isn’t randy that has hyped himself, it is the fans and media, who aren’t really known for keeping it realistic.

He has accomplished much and deserves credit for that.

Well..

His context is that he’s the MOST overrated. That’s quite a discrepancy..

by Charles Awad on Oct 24, 2008 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Right. Couture is definitely overrated, but to claim that he is the most overrated is absurd.

I don't HATE Randy...

I’m simply saying he is over-rated. Don’t let the facts, (his record) get in the way here. I think he is a good fighter yes, the best ever? No! On a plus side for Randy, I think he is a better announcer than Joe Rogan.

I don’t see a lot of people claiming he’s the best ever. Actually, I don’t remember anyone making that distinction. He’s one of the best ever for his place in the sport. He was never dominant, but he’s held titles in two weight classes and overcome a ton of diversity. He’s like the MMA champion for the everyman.

Rocky isn’t the best boxer either, but he has his own movies! How fair is that??

I can’t believe anyone actually replied to this.

That was running through my head as I replied.
