Quote of the Day: Junie Browning on Junie Browning

"Once I graduated [high school] ... " said Browning, voice trailing. "I'm not very smart, obviously, so the whole college thing wasn't going to be my round. I looked up an MMA gym and found one locally, so I jumped into it there."
-- Junie Browning talking about how he got into MMA.

He likes to compare himself to Chris Leben, but I think the one huge difference is that Leben was an ass because of drinking while Juni is just an ass, the drinking just makes it worse.
Yep.
I doubt that Leben would have spit on a black belt – when you get the always-congenial Anderson Silva mad at you, you must have done something wrong.

The whole Omorosa thing? It would have been smart if he did it five years ago. Now its just transparently idiotic.
smart like a fox, lol.
You are probably right. The big issue with him isn’t his intelligence level, but I would say it is his social acclimation. He can’t seem to co-exist, know when to shut up, or use self control.

Very true
however his reasoning behind spitting on a black belt in front of a room full of black belts bring’s his intelligence back into questioning.
That was a disgusting act and showed a lack of respect well beyond just Roli’s bb.

I will right now. I’ve read a couple of others, and they were pretty put off by that part.
You know, if he had just handed it to him, or even tied it around his waist, with the “McDojo” showing, it would have been kind of funny. However the act showed a lot of disrespect to Eliot, Vinny, Nog and Mir, not to mention Roli. As well as BJJ as a whole. I was really hoping someone would put him in his place. The apology to Nog was fine, but I doubt if he did it without prompting from some of the other fighters/coaches.

I agree. Everyone, even the people who hate him (which is everyone I guess), remarks on his talents and ability to pick things up in a flash. That sort of inheritance of skill doesn’t just happen to stupid guys. His mind can assimilate and retain information better than most.
The problem is his personality and – without much doubt – his mental disorders which prevent him from being able to apply the gifts he has.
I’m sure most people have known a guy like that. There was a guy in my high school who would skip classes for two weeks at a time, get high every day, then show up and by the end of class be able to answer questions the rest of us couldn’t.
I think he’s very smart, but doesn’t realize that educated intelligence takes hard work too. When something makes your brain hurt its just going to take hard work and determination to learn it. He’s got some sort of self-esteem where he doesn’t think he can do it, so he’ll never do the work to get there in the first place.
He thinks he’s tough and can fight so he works at it. Its a common delusional catch 22. Probably highly common in bipolar disorders. Just guessing though.
Too stupid to learn
Junie don’t need no fancy book learnin’ or word papers!
Think its bad now? Wait until a whole house full of TUF’ers try and emulate him in seasons to come.
Here is what I think
I’ll come back to this Blog in 3 years, and no one will remember who Junie Browning was/is… Everyone says this kid has talent, but I just don’t see it. He won’t win another fight under the UFC name.
I guess you would have a better angle with which to assess his talent than the people who actually see him train.
Well, he is talentless in the head. No mind game = No game.

Junie definitely has some self-esteem/self-image issues. I don’t buy that he’s stupid. There are different kinds of smarts. Just because you suck in school doesn’t mean you can’t be good in other areas. The kid has natural athletic talent. He’s a dumbass, but he’s not stupid, and there’s a big difference. He goes from one extreme to another, from really laid back to violent, to crying. That’s not normal, and he’s gotta figure that out. If he doesn’t, that’ll be too bad cause there’s nothing worse than wasting talent.
A lot of it is drinking, a lot of it is him just being a jerk, and a lot of it is acting. He has admitted more than once that much of the stuff he does is for TV.
And some of it is most likely editing which makes it more pronounced.

I don't think he's stupid, persay
He’s just socially retarded. I’ve given credit to the other guys in the house before for keeping their composure around him, but I would be absolutely intolerant of a drunk guy shoving me around the edge of a pool, spitting at me, throwing glasses at me, eskimo kissing me, threatening me with a bottle….. you get the idea. I couldn’t contend with that. I know there’s the risk of getting kicked off the show for putting him in his place, but challenging a man’s pride is sacred to me, particularly to the degree/s that he has..
He’s probably more of an idiot than he is stupid. In any case, I’d love to see him get put in his place (preferably, in the octagon).
