Quote of the Day: Dana White

"Hey Jared (Shaw), you're 60 million dollars in the hole, retard. Get over it.

These idiots pop up and they start throwing all this money around and they think they're going to come out and go head to head and compete with the UFC? It'd be like me starting a fast food joint saying 'I'm going to take down McDonald's'."

It does confuse me that some promotors are more concerned with effecting the UFC’s bottom line than increasing their own..

After last night’s “get off my property” moment on TUF, maybe Dana should hold off on comparing fighters to hamburgers for a while.

by smoogy on Oct 2, 2008 1:55 PM EDT reply actions

However abrasive this statement may be, he’s got a valid point that others have made in a more eloquent fashion.

Speaking of TUF, the show has its good points, but I get so tired of the same old “get drunk and tear shit up” formula.

I’d really like to see them take the alcohol out of the house, but Spike would never agree to that.

by Richard Wade on Oct 2, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I couldn’t believe they had a whole damn pantry/closet full of liquor in that house…smh….I knew they had access to alcohol…but I didn’t know it was like THAT.

I don’t know what I thought, but I couldn’t believe the wall to wall boos thing, either. Maybe I just didn’t think they would be so brash about showing it to the audience, and erasing any doubt about their tactic of using alcohol to increase the drama factor.

by Cannon Jacques on Oct 2, 2008 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

my thoughts exactly.

It’s a TV show, they need shit like that to make it exciting to keep attracting viewers.

No one is forcing them to drink, they’re all big boys, if they don’t want to drink, they don’t have to.

by Phildo on Oct 2, 2008 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

definitely agree with that, but it was just surprising how MUCH they had available. And, like Cannon J, I was surprised they showed it in the episode.

I’ve always thought the “give them alcohol to provide drama” idea was overrated. The house is still designed to separate the wheat from the chaff, and self-motivation is a key quality toward success in the UFC. Give the fools every ability to shoot themselves in the foot, and most of them will.

At least he didn’t use the Nascar analogy again.

Hooray for new analogies.

Only in MMA can one high level executive call a rival company’s executive a “retard”.

by Day Man on Oct 2, 2008 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

Hey

He didn’t call him a fucking retard. That’s some serious restraint.

by LiuLang on Oct 2, 2008 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

He can fall back on the "promoter" title to call people names

Love it. Dana is 100% correct and pretty much summed up what most of us think about Shaw.

I say we get the Shaw’s matching outfits with cowboy hats. they really remind me of Big Enos and Little Enos Burdette from Smokey and the Bandit!

Should have probably included the quote from Shaw that made White go off on his tirade to begin with.

DANA

getting tired of dana? blame all the mma based-websites that post every video and comment he makes. dana is the same as he was 5 years ago.

Except now he’s running the most relevant fight league in MMA and doesn’t seem to have any real competition. Who else are we doing to listen to? That colorful CEO at Sengoku?

Paul Tagliabue THOUGHT this about Vince McMahon but didn't SAY it out loud

‘Nice league you got there. Pity if something should happen to it.’

You all can call me a nuthugger or UFC groupie or whatever, but mark my words, when they carve MMA’s Mount Rushmore, Dana White is on it.

by Derek Suboticki on Oct 2, 2008 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

I believe Tagliabue referred to the XFL as a “non issue”.
