GSP & Miguel Torres officially BJJ BlackBelts
Just what everyone in the WEC and UFC wanted. GSP and Miguel Torres to get even better!! Now officially blackbelts in BJJ. This according to UFC.com
"The art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a key element of any mixed martial artist’s arsenal in the Octagon. Some though, have taken their development higher than others, and in September and October, a select group of fighters from the UFC and WEC have seen promotions in their discipline.UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre heads up this distinguished list, as he recently received his black belt from Bruno Fernandes. Also entering this select club is welterweight contender Dustin Hazelett, who received his black belt from Jorge Gurgel in September, and WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres, who received his black belt from Carlson Gracie Jr., also in September. Being promoted from blue belt to purple belt is welterweight prospect Kevin Burns, who received his new belt from Carlos Henrique "Caique" Elias last month.Congratulations to all of these groundfighting standouts."

Torres’s ground game just got stronger? Oh god…the horror…
As for GSP, I don’t think that amount of awesomeness is allowed in the octagon because mere mortals aren’t capable of regulating it.

I don’t think you can even measure the amount of awesomeness of either one of those fighters. It will take one talented fighter to take the belts off of their waist for sure!!!

I still say, BJ & GSP’s fight is bigger than Randy & Brock hands down – I wouldn’t be surprised if BJ & GSP’s fight gets more ppv buys.

IMO it should be Couture and Nogueira. It makes no sense to me. Mir beat Lesnar, Nogueira is the Interim champ.. Lesnar should not even be in the talks of a championship match. I know he’ll be a decent draw but it’s BS. Nogueira should be Couture’s first fight then Mir and then Fedor if they can pull that off.

Couture/Nog wouldn’t do as many PPV buys as Couture/Lesnar. It really is that simple. Dana and the boys are in this for the $, nothing else. don’t ever forget that.
I totally agree. There needs to be some sort of ranking system to give credibility to the fights. That would not necessarily put the biggest draw in a fight as far as tickets and PPV buys so it will never happen. As is the case with Brock Lesnar. A loss to Frank Mir and an unimpressive win (IMO) against Heath Herring and now he’s in the title fight.!!! $$ makes the world go round.. and obviously it makes the UFC go round…..what can you do. IMO this is precisely why Lyoto Machida has not gotten a title fight yet. He is a boring fighter in a lot of peoples eyes and would probably not be a huge draw.

How would some sort of ranking system give credibility to the fights? That’s just asinine.

Just a friendly reminder...
Nogueira was already scheduled to fight Frank Mir. It makes no sense for Couture to sit around and wait several months to fight Nogueira especially when at his advanced age he has a limited amount of time left. The Lesnar fight makes sense in that it is win/win for the UFC. The fight itself is easy to sell and is an interesting matchup, plus it makes the Nogueira/Mir fight more interesting in that we know the winner will be fighting the winner of Couture/Lesnar. Obviously this will make money, but I have yet to hear an argument as to how this isn’t also good for the sport.

A ranking system asinine? So you don’t want to see the best fight the best You’d rather have Joe Silva and Dana White tell you who they think the best is? That is asinine IMO. I realize Nogueira was already scheduled to fight Mir at the finale at TUF. I know the circumstances as to why these matches are coming about. I just don’t think Lesnar deserves a title shot. You seriously think he does after going 1-1 in his only two fights in the UFC?

What makes you think some other idiot’s subjective ranking system would be an improvement?

It can’t be any worse than the matchmaking now. Granted there is no perfect way to pick fights… It just seems some fighters get pushed while other fighters get left behind…. with no bearing on how good of a fighter they are….and I know it all boils down to $$ and PPV sales. … but don’t we want to see the best fighters fight? ..whether or not they have an electrifying personality.. or one is more popular than the other.
