Toward a Stronger Bloody Elbow Community
Fronted by Luke Thomas. And no, I did not pay anyone to write this.
I've been really enjoying a lot of the FanPosts lately, and I'd just like to encourage fellow Bloody Elbow readers to try their hand at authorship because it strengthens the overall community that is starting to be built here.
I've already started to recognize and respect many of the names that are contributing, including mythbuster, the machiavellian, FlyByNight, Richard, szuucconi, Blackout612 (are you from Minneapolis?), Kierkegaard, BJJDenver, and many others.
I check Bloody Elbow about a dozen times a day, and I'm always happy to find new content. Kid Nate, Luke Thomas, Michael Rome, Brent Brookhouse, and the other frontpage posters can't do this alone.
I've noticed in the past month or two that a real community is starting to form, and it's incumbent upon all of us to pitch in and provide content to help make this blog the best place to go for MMA gossip without homophobic and racist slurs and the other immature stuff that makes the other blogs less readable.
Having recently waded into fanposting myself, I will say the tools are very easy to work with. If you see an interesting article about MMA in your local paper, or in another blog you read, it's very easy to create a fanpost that links to it, quotes from it, and shares the material with the community. And the comments from BE readers are often as interesting as the posts themselves, which is all the more reason to throw out items for discussion and see what happens.
I hope this doesn't come across as sappy, but I really do enjoy the work being done here on a daily basis, both by frontpagers and fanposters. There's not enough material out there for fans of this growing sport--lord knows the daily newspapers haven't caught on. Just look at the EliteXC "keep it standing" controversy. That would not be penetrating the mainstream media if it wasn't for people on this blog and others continuing to advance the story.
So if you think you have something to say, create a fanpost. Chances are, I and others will be reading and happy for the work you're doing to keep advancing our appreciation of this underappreciated sport.
The FanPosts are solely the subjective opinions of Bloody Elbow readers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Bloody Elbow editors or staff.

I am from Minneapolis.
I’ve noticed your commentary and fanposts increasing in volume. You’ve done a fine job, and are certainly contributing to the quality of this community. I’ve had some disagreements with a lot of people here, but we’re good natured in our retorts. It’s this type of forum that lends itself to my outspoken and opinionated nature (being an individual that finds arguing to be a healthy activity) while maintaining the credibility of one that is comprised predominantly of individuals who are similarly opinionated and articulate. I really, truly avoid all public contact on other forums of this nature (ie; Sherdog), so it speaks volumes that I’m comfortable interacting on this one.

Do you make it out to Canterbury for their cards?

Canterbury
Haven’t made it out there yet for MMA, though I made about $200 betting the ponies there during the Triple Crown. I usually go out to the BW3 in Apple Valley to watch UFC PPVs.

Well said...
what makes this site different from most other places you can go for your MMA talk is that you can write these fanposts and get your story promoted to the front page of a heavily trafficked site. It’s not the same as just throwing a post on a message board, we want you all to write stories and articles.
Keep up the kick ass work everyone!

This is the only MMA blog in which the editors get involved in discussion as well as policing inappropriate posts. You can depend on all MMA news being shared, and it doesn’t take 20 minutes for the content to load.

I got mentioned!
I’m known on an internet message board – I officially need to get out more!
The reason I post here is because it seems to attract intelligent people here instead of the usual internet moron. Mature behavior FTW!

For the sake of the universe I will stick to posting comments. If I created a fanpost the universe would collapse on itself from all the awesomeness.

Love the community here
I’ve been coming to this site for a while and honestly I hadn’t even noticed the fanposts til recently. What a mistake that was. There’s so much intelligent discussion in the fan posts which is in stark contrast to other sites out there coughSherdogcough. Plus I love the fact that the guys who run the site regularly give their 2 cents to the fanposts and promote a lot of the fanposts to the front page. It really does give a great sense of community.

This is a great site. I’m here everyday while im at work. Great Posts, Educated MMA fans , and an oppurtunity to post your own news. This site can’t be beat.

Yeah, I’ve been here a while and I love the fact that I can directly interact with the editors of the site.
I probably need to do more fanposts though.

Yeah. What everyone else said. There’s a reason that this is the best mma site right now, and it’s largely the community nature.

You know, I honestly like the snarky main entries better over at FightLinker, but the comments over here kick FL’s ass. (Not to mention the crazy hybrid forum/blog format is always logging me out.)
And honestly, a big reason the comments are so good is the sbnation profile page that lets you see when people have replied. FLAMES GO ON AS LONG AS THEY HAVE TO. :-)

I ain’t afraid a no police.
What can I say – I agree with Ryan on just about every issue in the MMA world, and nobody brings the funny like him. There are people I agree with more and less around here, but you can’t beat FL for shit-talk. For instance – and I know he’s got broad shoulders so he can take it – Luke is a great guy but he’s trying so hard to be serious about all this stuff that he can seem stiff. Meanwhile, Ryan is getting threatened with lawsuits for jokes about Luke Cuommo’s enemas. AWESOME.
And all of this reminds me – I need to get a fanpost up about how people need to support Roxy through FL when they get that prepped…

I like FL too – there’s a lot of insight in their satire, which is why it has so much bite. I hate toothless satire with a fiery passion as raging as a porn star’s herpes. I miss their MMA tabloid weekly news parody.
The discussions & postings are the reason why I like BE the most (insert shameless ass-kissing). The fact participation is so encouraged by promoting popular fanposts to the main page is awesome. I was bragging to my friends when I got my first one; they just thought I was (more of) a loser.
Just for FL: WAR MACHIDA!

See, I just view FL as something “different” — neither better nor worse, necessarily. When I want actual news and thoughtful intelligent commentary, I come here. The comments add to that. The fanposts and fanshots add to that. If I want a real snarky / humorous take on things that might or might not be news at all, I go to FL. It just depends on what you’re looking for.

2 thumbs up!!!
I agree. I especially like the Fanposts. Fanposts are the best thing that could of happened to an mma blog. Props to BE for being one of the first, if not THE first.
Excellent venue for breaking news to get out there and for those of us that want ot give writing a try. I hope to do a write up one of these days. But props to all that have and to the site. Good luck in the future!!!!!

I’m continually surprised at how insightful and well-behaved the readers are here at BE. You can disagree without being personally attacked with some lame comeback. The FanPosts are rather awesome. It gives us amateurs a chance to express our opinions. That’s generally a good thing. I guess it begins with the fearless leaders of the site, or maybe not. I’m kidding. BE rocks.

You are stupid
But seriously, my favorite part fo this site is when Luke creams his jeans over some fan post. I just like to argue with people. It doesn’t matter if I am right or if I know I am wrong. I just like inserting some logical thinking. It a nice break from my co-workers, who don’t know what logic is. I just can’t spell.

Agree
I don’t visit a lot of MMA blogs. I came here and stayed, but that’s testament to the quality of this blog. There was never anything that made me want to leave, or look elsewhere. Sure, there are times I get mad at people, and have said things myself that I regretted, but in the end we are all mature enough to let it go and get over it.
Great job all around :)

Very nice write up!
I used to be a Sherdog guy, but I just couldn’t take the jackassery there anymore. It was impossible to keep an intelligent conversation going over there. As much as I loved the “I saw BJ at the airport” comments and the “Is Diego Sanchez really gay” threads, I just got fed up. So I ventured out into the www and found a ton of mma sites, of which, BE easily was the best and now I call it home, lol.
You can have debates, disagree, even argue, but it is generally at a respectable, intelligent level. You might even learn a thing or two. Sure, the occasional moron pops in once in a while, but they are quickly kicked out or have their behavior modified. The growth around here has been amazing and there are a lot of very knowledgeable people posting.
As I can see from the above comments (noob, lol), i am not alone in the migration to BE.
Enough with the lovefest, lol, let’s talk about Brock Lesner’s tattoo!! You bunch of TUF noobs!
