EliteXC: Heat Betting Odds

Are up:

  • Kimbo Slice -350
  • Jake Shields -465
  • Andrei Arlovski -455
  • Gina Carano -550
  • Murilo Rua -220
  • Ken Shamrock +280
  • Paul Daley +385
  • Roy Nelson +375
  • Kelly Kobald +400
  • Benji Radach +180
Preliminary Bouts:
  • Cristiane Santos -625
  • Yoko Takahashi +475
Just like Ken vs Tito... money is piling in on Ken Shamrock causing the line to drop... I've seen it as high as -600 and as low as -300 at one point.

These odds are revealing about the heavy-handed matchmaking.

by Luke Thomas on Oct 1, 2008 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

Honestly, if I had extra money, I would consider throwing some down on all the underdogs.

Shamrock—while I picked Kimbo, Ken certainly has a chance to pull out a sub.
Daley—Semtex is a good fighter and one shot can end this fight.
Nelson—AA takes some punches, and Roy can deliver them for sure.
Kobald—doubtful, but why not take a chance.
Radach—Ninja refuses to use his strengths and fight safely.

While I would probably pick all the favorites, I think most of the dogs have a decent chance of winning, and those are pretty big odds, in most cases.

if I bet I would put money on Shamrock. IN fact, I actually think he might win. I give him the edge.

by mythbuster on Oct 1, 2008 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m really surprised at some of the available lines, considering Shamrock’s pedigree and Kimbo’s last fight. Of course much of that is trying to sway the money, but still…

Shamrock's pedigree?

What pedigree? Being a leglock specialist in old-style Pancrase where everybody wore boots and shinpads? Having one Submission win in more than a decade, against Sam Adkins no less? Getting knocked out by Kazushi freakin’ Sakuraka? I really don’t understand why people still think Shamrock is at all capable of fighting.

It’s called hero worship. And it’s not polite to laugh.

I don’t like ken and I’m picking Kimbo by 1st rd ko.

However, if you don;t think there is some chance that with his experience and knowledge, that he has a chance of subbing Kimbo, then you are out of it.

So which poison is it, the bad for mma you tube street brawler or the over the hill, hasn;t won a fight in 10 years has-been??

see my point?

Could I hope that the ref gets frustrated, pulls out a pistol and starts firing into the crowd? That’s probably be better for MMA than this fight…

Exactly! Either way, it’s some lone crazy screwing things up. Actually televising this bout makes everyone at EliteXC and everyone who watches it complicit in its stupidity.

I like Daley a lot at these odds. Shields is legit but he has also been feeding on some sub par competition and personally I think Daley is a big step up.

by Day Man on Oct 1, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow, I would definitely put some $$$ down on Roy Nelson at those odds. AA is tough but Big Country can definitely do some damage.

Kobald is the $$ maker

I’d bet the farm on Kobald winning this fight!!

This is a Joke !

I watched the Carano fight last night and Kobald was robbed! What a terrible decision. How does Kobald lose a decesion in a fight that she was clearly controlling every aspect of. Kobald countered every strike Carano attempted by attacking Carano’s fists with her head and was also able to stifle Carano’s take downs by holding her up against the fence and delivering brutal foot stomps. Seriously, am I the only one who saw this fight clearly. I was impressed with how Kobald was able to take this travesty in stride by wearing some really really cool sunglasses while the kangaroo court style decision was announced. I have lost my family farm because of these incompetent judges. I guess it just goes to prove once again that these things can’t be left in the hands of the judges. Next time Kobald should not be so merciful and should just deliver a boring 1st round KO instead of trying to put on a show for the fans. ; )

We have..

Kimbo is definitely worth -350. Shamrock just got trashed by BUZZ BERRY.

I am close to selling everything I own and betting Nelson.

Dude took to submission wrestling like he took to ‘drinking the fat out of deep fryers’ (thanks, Fightlinker) and has knockout power. And he’s THAT low?!?! He also went three rounds with the guy AA just went three rounds with.

Someone talk me out of it.

by Derek Suboticki on Oct 1, 2008 4:42 PM EDT reply actions

Don’t do it.

How’s that.

by Kierkegaard on Oct 1, 2008 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Whatever, Kierkegaard

Sartre totally kicked your ass.

AA’s a helluva fighter, but call me hesitant to bet a guy that lost to Tim Sylvia twice in a row.

by Derek Suboticki on Oct 1, 2008 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Sartre had no takedown defense.

And I didn’t say you should bet AA. Just that you shouldn’t sell everything you own to bet on Nelson against AA.

Oh, and you asked for someone to do it!

by Kierkegaard on Oct 1, 2008 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

And Hegel had a glass chin, don't change his legacy in the sport

Other than that, you did never say to bet AA. And I did ask someone to do it.

I bow to your ninja nature.

by Derek Suboticki on Oct 1, 2008 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Fuck Sartre: the guy SERIOUSLY gassed at the end. Heidegger’s the one we should be talking about.

As for Nelson: Didn’t AA already prove he knows how to beat up fat guys?

AA’s more athletic, has longer reach, and has crisper striking. Even if there is slight value on Nelson (which I don’t think there is), he’s still a pretty big dog.

My understanding is the Arlovski was also very unhappy with the UFC towards the end of his last contract and that unhappiness affected his performance. He is now rejuvenated. That’s what the folks I know who are somewhat close to him have told me.

by Luke Thomas on Oct 1, 2008 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Well...

I got on Kimbo at +300 which I considered a steal. While I get the “ken has experience…Ken has a submission game….” talk. Kimbo is a bigger threat than Buzz Berry and Ken got put to sleep quickly by Buzz.

I would stay away from Nelson.

Daley is a good pickup in my mind…but that depends on how much you like his technique. It’s a closer fight than the odds would have you believe in my eyes though.

Kimbo at +300? Who is your bookie and can you introduce me?

by Day Man on Oct 1, 2008 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

So the most competitive fight of the night is “No, not Shogun, his little brother Ninja – the one with all those losses to impressive fighters” vs. “That guy I kinda remember from watching the IFL in the middle of the night – no wait, I think that must have been Chris Horo…whatever – he was the one who looked young and a little… slapped-around, right? No?.” Huh.

I don’t EVER want to hear complaints about UFC matchmaking again. Seriously – is there a way we can keep these odds posted on the front page so the next time somebod writes, “Man, the UFC always protects their fighters” we can just sorta point and laugh?

Hear, hear

Putting Kimbo Slice against a heavyweight on par with Patrick Cote, Brock Lesnar, Jon Fitch or even Joe effing Stevenson would result in riots in Miami. That’s how bad it would be.

by Derek Suboticki on Oct 1, 2008 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Am I the only one who wants to see Kimbo vs. Joe Stevenson? Cause my money’s on Joe. :-)
