That mainstream coverage can drive a fight. Especially if the sports press decides they don't like Dana or Zuffa and start pushing the "does UFC really have the toughest fighters?" angle.
Remember Fedor getting coverage in Esquire last year. He'll be getting more coverage, the guy is a story.

He's just a douchbag with a huge ego.
I'll follow Randy to any organization he goes to.
Screw the UFC

To break the monopoly a company needs a real tv deal.

Just remember a few years ago -- think of all the champs who left the UFC in title disputes -- Tito, Randy at least twice, Barnett, Frye, Royce ,etc.
They just vanished. None of them got mainstream media attention to vent. None of them required a massive barrage of lawsuits.
Fast-forward to 2010, let's say BJ Penn sweeps the 155 division, moves up and beats GSP in the biggest PPV in MMA history. Then BJ being BJ he wants to fight Aoki or Gomi or JZ in Japan for HDNet but he's got the belt -- think they'll be able to sue him into oblivion too?
Did anyone else notice Mark Cuban citing the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform act in a recent interview?
Dana and the Fertittas are trying to hold the cork in the bottle but the pressure is building and building. Ironically the bigger they make the UFC and the more media attention they get the harder it will be to keep it all as their own private fiefdom.
Swift is right about this Michael, in the long term at least.
