Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night April 2nd

I must have missed the announcement:

If you watched last night's Fight Night telecast, Mike Goldberg mentioned at one point the next Fight Night on April 2 in Colorado. He listed some names that would be appearing on the card. One new name though was that of Lightweight standout Frankie Edgar. With the card already stacked, it will be interesting to see which fight's make the main card:

- Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves
- Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
- Matt Hamill vs. Stephan Bonnar
- Frankie Edgar vs. TBD
- Spencer Fisher vs. Marcus Aurelio
- Clay Guida vs. Sammy Schiavo
- Tommy Speer vs. Anthony Johnson

First off, I hope they give this show an extra hour.  I know the ads make the fight night shows seem super-long but this card deserves extra time for more fights to be televised.

Assuming they keep it at 2 hours though...they will put 4 fights on the main card.  I assume those would be:

-Karo/Alves - Gotta keep your title contender on TV, plus Karo is a recognizable name.
-Bonnar/Hamill - Obvious that this goes on the main card.

  • Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon - Again, I don't see any way to not have this on the main card.
  • Frankie Edgar vs. TBD - Edgar is probably third in line to get a title shot (behind Sherk and Florian if he beats Lauzon) so they need to make him a little more visible.

I really hope that Florian (if he beats Lauzon) has to beat Edgar too before he gets another title shot. He's fought really well but that first title shot was a gimme and he has some karma to re-earn.

I agree, but I think they see Penn/Florian as a money fight.  Aside from Huerta, Florian is the lightweight challenger with the biggest fanbase.  And Florian is a hell of a lot more ready for a title shot than Huerta.

true, true. I wish they had a better format for TUF -- seems like there should be a way to build up guys like Edgar without making them live in a house with a bunch of drunk idiots.

Well..for starters they could just take the alcohol out of the house.  The only reason it is there is to provide the "reality TV moments" that producers want so desperately.

Honestly if they focused on training and fights and let the guys live in a house together but with some distractions (books, magazines, video games...something besides booze and pool) you'd have a better show.  They give the guys no way to blow off steam but to drink and throw shit around...so that's what they do.  Which in turn makes the show a little too...Real World-y.  I know that what I'm saying doesn't really fix the show...but it at least stops putting these young fighters in such a shitty situation.

Also, I will be at this event so you better believe the coverage for UFN 13 on this website will be sick.

All yesses.

Spencer Fisher vs. Marcus Aurelio

And this one I think.  SF used to be a UFN headliner.  It will depend on Frankie's opp.

Re: Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night April 2nd
It's up in the air depending on Edgar's opponent.  The difference though is that Edgar is hot, Fisher has lost recently.  So the UFC will ride the hotter fighter on TV.  Unless they go with the potential for more explosiveness (spectacular KO) and go with Fisher/Aurelio
