Sean Sherk Eligible To Fight In January

UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk, had his suspension reduced to six months, reports Sherdog.com editor Josh Gross:

The California State Athletic Commission upheld a fine of $2500. Sherk, 34, will be eligible to return to the Octagon in January. Will Sherk still be stripped of the belt? The Fight Network says probably: Since it did not vindicate him, the CSAC decision will likely result in Sherk's being stripped of the UFC lightweight crown. The promotion set precedent for such a move in year's past, as it stripped former heavyweight titleholder Josh Barnett following his positive test in Nevada in 2003. Tim Sylvia also relinquished the heavyweight crown in wake of a positive test. Following the hearing, Sherk stated: "I'm not happy at all with (a six-month suspension and fine). This is not over," indicating that he would be discussing possible legal action with his attorneys.

They better strip him of the belt because they still consider him guilty, still took $2500 and still consider him suspended.

Not that surprising really considering they've never overturned a suspension.

I wonder if Penn will still consider fighting Sherk if he makes it through Stevenson. Didn't Penn out and out say he refused to fight anyone caught using banned substances?

I'm guessing that's more Penn trying to create a marketable issue between the two than any serious philosophical refusal. Penn is pretty smart about selling fights.

Does it really matter if he is stripped anymore? Its only 1 month and he'll be fighting for the belt so why bother stripping him.
Man this pisses me off.
Do illegal, performance enhancing drugs, get a slap on the wrist and have your "boss" get made at the commission that caught you cheating.
Great job Dana. Way to run a company. You might as well just tell all the fighters to use steroids.
