I am really torn regarding the Okami / MacDonald fight.

I am a Canadian living in Kanagawa, Japan so I am torn between national pride ( MacDonald beats Okami ) and my understanding of the Japanese mindset and how dedicated to perfection most Japanese fighters truly are. I love Okami's style too but I don't want to see Jason MacDonald lose either. It is a little like how I might feel if Fedor and Randy were to, by some miacle, get a chance to face each other. I love both fighters so I just don't know how happy I will be at the end of the fight. Anyway...just my two yen worth. Cheers and enjoy UFC 77.

DAMNIT UFC

I'm just going to be pissed if they don't televise this fight and instead show the Bonnar fight. Hell even the Starnes/Belcher fight. This is by far the third best fight on the card and I love watching Okami fight.

I think this will be the worst fight on the card in terms of sheer entertainment value. That's why it isn't getting main card status.

I like both guys, I just think they will make for an ugly match-up.

Why?
Okami always goes for a definitive conclusion to his fights. So does McDonald.
Unless grappling is somehow considered "bad for TV" this should be a good match.
Why are two guys with no stand-up skills whaling away at each other to no effect considered great fights? I fear MMA will just become really bad kickboxing.

I'm a fan of the ground game. It wasn't my intention to imply otherwise. Good ground work is much more exciting than bad stand-up.

My thinking is that Okami and MacDonald will neutralize each other on the ground and we'll end up with a "takedown, 2 short arm punches, stall out, get stood up, repeat." Stall out meaning that neither guy is able to do anything because their strengths offset each other too severely. I figure it will look kind of like a chess match ending in a stalemate.

I could very well be wrong, but my gut tells me that this ends up not being an exciting fight.

I disagree but only because I think Okami has such an edge in power. But without the devastating striking of Franklin he'll have a harder time pounding out McDonald.
It's an interesting style class between Okami the wrestler looking to use GnP and McDonald the grappler looking to get a submission from his back.
Could be ugly. But maybe not.
Didn't mean to imply you were a Chuck Norris anti-grappling noob btw.
