The Melvin Costa Situation

Since everyone else is talking about it I won't go into much detail, both Sam Caplan and Fightlinker have pieces up on it. But still, it is hard to not say anything with as much talk as it is getting on various sites and forums. This is a picture of Melvin Costa who is the #10 ranked Light Heavyweight in King of the Cage.  As we all know, KOTC is owned by ProElite Inc. which is a publicly traded company.

The "I have a small penis" tattoo?  Hilarious stuff.  I mean, in the same way that getting "are you sure?" tattooed right above the belt line and then "it might be contagious" right below is hilarious.

But the giant Neo-Nazi Eagle/Swastika tattoo on the chest?  Quite a bit less funny.

Now ProElite is in a tricky spot.  Do they get him the hell out of KOTC and risk a possible lawsuit dealing with freedom of speech issues?  Do they let him fight on when they have a concern that is the most important thing for a publicly traded company..image?

I am not going to get into my feelings on Costa.  I've never met the guy, never heard his side of the story, don't know about his youth...frankly, I don't give a shit about the guy. If his chest is any indication of the kind of guy he is though, it is pretty clear that he is a dick.

All I do know is that regardless of if he continues to fight for KOTC, ProElite needs to release a formal statement distancing them from Costa (who should release a statement of his own).  The buzz on this photo is getting louder and louder...just like the guys on the trading floors screaming "Sell!  Sell!" could be soon.
